4:1  itaque fratres mei carissimi et         1.  Therefore, my brethren dearly
desiderantissimi gaudium meum et corona      beloved and longed for, my joy and
mea sic state in Domino carissimi            crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my
                                             dearly beloved.
4:2  Euhodiam rogo et Syntychen              2.  I beseech Euodias, and beseech
deprecor id ipsum sapere in Domino           Syntyche, that they be of the same mind
                                             in the Lord.
4:3  etiam rogo et te germane conpar         3.  And I intreat thee also, true
adiuva illas quae mecum laboraverunt in      yokefellow, help those women which
evangelio cum Clemente et ceteris            laboured with me in the gospel, with
adiutoribus meis quorum nomina sunt in       Clement also, and with other my
libro vitae                                  fellowlabourers, whose names are in the
                                             book of life.
4:4  gaudete in Domino semper iterum         4.  Rejoice in the Lord alway: and
dico gaudete                                 again I say, Rejoice.
4:5  modestia vestra nota sit omnibus        5.  Let your moderation be known unto
hominibus Dominus prope                      all men. The Lord is at hand.
4:6  nihil solliciti sitis sed in omni       6.  Be careful for nothing; but in
oratione et obsecratione cum gratiarum       every thing by prayer and supplication
actione petitiones vestrae innotescant       with thanksgiving let your requests be
apud Deum                                    made known unto God.
4:7  et pax Dei quae exsuperat omnem         7.  And the peace of God, which passeth
sensum custodiat corda vestra et             all understanding, shall keep your
intellegentias vestras in Christo Iesu       hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
4:8  de cetero fratres quaecumque sunt       8.  Finally, brethren, whatsoever
vera quaecumque pudica quaecumque iusta      things are true, whatsoever things are
quaecumque sancta quaecumque amabilia        honest, whatsoever things are just,
quaecumque bonae famae si qua virtus si      whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
qua laus haec cogitate                       things are lovely, whatsoever things
                                             are of good report; if there be any
                                             virtue, and if there be any praise,
                                             think on these things.
4:9  quae et didicistis et accepistis        9.  Those things, which ye have both
et audistis et vidistis in me haec           learned, and received, and heard, and
agite et Deus pacis erit vobiscum            seen in me, do: and the God of peace
                                             shall be with you.
4:10  gavisus sum autem in Domino            10.  But I rejoiced in the Lord
vehementer quoniam tandem aliquando          greatly, that now at the last your care
refloruistis pro me sentire sicut et         of me hath flourished again; wherein ye
sentiebatis occupati autem eratis            were also careful, but ye lacked
                                             opportunity.
4:11  non quasi propter penuriam dico        11.  Not that I speak in respect of
ego enim didici in quibus sum                want: for I have learned, in whatsoever
sufficiens esse                              state I am, therewith to be content.
4:12  scio et humiliari scio et              12.  I know both how to be abased, and
abundare ubique et in omnibus                I know how to abound: every where and
institutus sum et satiari et esurire et      in all things I am instructed both to
abundare et penuriam pati                    be full and to be hungry, both to
                                             abound and to suffer need.
4:13  omnia possum in eo qui me              13.  I can do all things through Christ
confortat                                    which strengtheneth me.
4:14  verumtamen bene fecistis               14.  Notwithstanding ye have well done,
communicantes tribulationi meae              that ye did communicate with my
                                             affliction.
4:15  scitis autem et vos Philippenses       15.  Now ye Philippians know also, that
quod in principio evangelii quando           in the beginning of the gospel, when I
profectus sum a Macedonia nulla mihi         departed from Macedonia, no church
ecclesia communicavit in ratione dati        communicated with me as concerning
et accepti nisi vos soli                     giving and receiving, but ye only.
4:16  quia et Thessalonicam et semel et      16.  For even in Thessalonica ye sent
bis in usum mihi misistis                    once and again unto my necessity.
4:17  non quia quaero datum sed requiro      17.  Not because I desire a gift: but I
fructum abundantem in rationem vestram       desire fruit that may abound to your
                                             account.
4:18  habeo autem omnia et abundo            18.  But I have all, and abound: I am
repletus sum acceptis ab Epafrodito          full, having received of Epaphroditus
quae misistis odorem suavitatis hostiam      the things which were sent from you, an
acceptam placentem Deo                       odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice
                                             acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
4:19  Deus autem meus impleat omne           19.  But my God shall supply all your
desiderium vestrum secundum divitias         need according to his riches in glory
suas in gloria in Christo Iesu               by Christ Jesus.
4:20  Deo autem et Patri nostro gloria       20.  Now unto God and our Father be
in saecula saeculorum amen                   glory for ever and ever. Amen.
4:21  salutate omnem sanctum in Christo      21.  Salute every saint in Christ
Iesu salutant vos qui mecum sunt fratres     Jesus. The brethren which are with me
                                             greet you.
4:22  salutant vos omnes sancti maxime       22.  All the saints salute you, chiefly
autem qui de Caesaris domo sunt              they that are of Caesar's household.
4:23  gratia Domini Iesu Christi cum         23.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
spiritu vestro amen                         be with you all. Amen.
