1:1 quod fuit ab initio quod audivimus 1. That which was from the beginning,
quod vidimus oculis nostris quod which we have heard, which we have seen
perspeximus et manus nostrae with our eyes, which we have looked
temptaverunt de verbo vitae upon, and our hands have handled, of
the Word of life;
1:2 et vita manifestata est et vidimus 2. (For the life was manifested, and
et testamur et adnuntiamus vobis vitam we have seen it, and bear witness, and
aeternam quae erat apud Patrem et shew unto you that eternal life, which
apparuit nobis was with the Father, and was manifested
unto us;)
1:3 quod vidimus et audivimus 3. That which we have seen and heard
adnuntiamus et vobis ut et vos declare we unto you, that ye also may
societatem habeatis nobiscum et have fellowship with us: and truly our
societas nostra sit cum Patre et cum fellowship is with the Father, and with
Filio eius Iesu Christo his Son Jesus Christ.
1:4 et haec scribimus vobis ut gaudium 4. And these things write we unto
nostrum sit plenum you, that your joy may be full.
1:5 et haec est adnuntiatio quam 5. This then is the message which we
audivimus ab eo et adnuntiamus vobis have heard of him, and declare unto
quoniam Deus lux est et tenebrae in eo you, that God is light, and in him is
non sunt ullae no darkness at all.
1:6 si dixerimus quoniam societatem 6. If we say that we have fellowship
habemus cum eo et in tenebris ambulamus with him, and walk in darkness, we lie,
mentimur et non facimus veritatem and do not the truth:
1:7 si autem in luce ambulemus sicut 7. But if we walk in the light, as he
et ipse est in luce societatem habemus is in the light, we have fellowship one
ad invicem et sanguis Iesu Filii eius with another, and the blood of Jesus
mundat nos ab omni peccato Christ his Son cleanseth us from all
sin.
1:8 si dixerimus quoniam peccatum non 8. If we say that we have no sin, we
habemus ipsi nos seducimus et veritas deceive ourselves, and the truth is not
in nobis non est in us.
1:9 si confiteamur peccata nostra 9. If we confess our sins, he is
fidelis est et iustus ut remittat nobis faithful and just to forgive us our
peccata et emundet nos ab omni sins, and to cleanse us from all
iniquitate unrighteousness.
1:10 si dixerimus quoniam non 10. If we say that we have not
peccavimus mendacem facimus eum et sinned, we make him a liar, and his
verbum eius non est in nobis word is not in us.
