2:1 filioli mei haec scribo vobis ut 1. My little children, these things
non peccetis sed et si quis peccaverit write I unto you, that ye sin not. And
advocatum habemus apud Patrem Iesum if any man sin, we have an advocate
Christum iustum with the Father, Jesus Christ the
                                             righteous:

2:2 et ipse est propitiatio pro 2. And he is the propitiation for our
peccatis nostris non pro nostris autem sins: and not for our's only, but also
tantum sed etiam pro totius mundi for the sins of the whole world.

2:3 et in hoc scimus quoniam 3. And hereby we do know that we know
cognovimus eum si mandata eius him, if we keep his commandments.
observemus

2:4 qui dicit se nosse eum et mandata 4. He that saith, I know him, and
eius non custodit mendax est in hoc keepeth not his commandments, is a
veritas non est liar, and the truth is not in him.

2:5 qui autem servat verbum eius vere 5. But whoso keepeth his word, in him
in hoc caritas Dei perfecta est in hoc verily is the love of God perfected:
scimus quoniam in ipso sumus hereby know we that we are in him.

2:6 qui dicit se in ipso manere debet 6. He that saith he abideth in him
sicut ille ambulavit et ipse ambulare ought himself also so to walk, even as
                                             he walked.

2:7 carissimi non mandatum novum 7. Brethren, I write no new
scribo vobis sed mandatum vetus quod commandment unto you, but an old
habuistis ab initio mandatum vetus est commandment which ye had from the
verbum quod audistis beginning. The old commandment is the
word which ye have heard from the
                                             beginning.

2:8 iterum mandatum novum scribo vobis 8. Again, a new commandment I write
quod est verum et in ipso et in vobis unto you, which thing is true in him
quoniam tenebrae transeunt et lumen and in you: because the darkness is
verum iam lucet past, and the true light now shineth.

2:9 qui dicit se in luce esse et 9. He that saith he is in the light,
fratrem suum odit in tenebris est usque and hateth his brother, is in darkness
adhuc even until now.

2:10 qui diligit fratrem suum in 10. He that loveth his brother
lumine manet et scandalum in eo non est abideth in the light, and there is none
                                             occasion of stumbling in him.

2:11 qui autem odit fratrem suum in 11. But he that hateth his brother is
tenebris est et in tenebris ambulat et in darkness, and walketh in darkness,
nescit quo eat quoniam tenebrae and knoweth not whither he goeth,
obcaecaverunt oculos eius because that darkness hath blinded his
                                             eyes.

2:12 scribo vobis filioli quoniam 12. I write unto you, little
remittuntur vobis peccata propter nomen children, because your sins are
eius forgiven you for his name's sake.

2:13 scribo vobis patres quoniam 13. I write unto you, fathers,
cognovistis eum qui ab initio est because ye have known him that is from
scribo vobis adulescentes quoniam the beginning. I write unto you, young
vicistis malignum men, because ye have overcome the
wicked one. I write unto you, little
children, because ye have known the
                                             Father.

2:14 scripsi vobis infantes quoniam 14. I have written unto you, fathers,
cognovistis Patrem scripsi vobis patres because ye have known him that is from
quia cognovistis eum qui ab initio the beginning. I have written unto you,
scripsi vobis adulescentes quia fortes young men, because ye are strong, and
estis et verbum Dei in vobis manet et the word of God abideth in you, and ye
vicistis malignum have overcome the wicked one.

2:15 nolite diligere mundum neque ea 15. Love not the world, neither the
quae in mundo sunt si quis diligit things that are in the world. If any
mundum non est caritas Patris in eo man love the world, the love of the
                                             Father is not in him.

2:16 quoniam omne quod est in mundo 16. For all that is in the world, the
concupiscentia carnis et concupiscentia lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
oculorum est et superbia vitae quae non eyes, and the pride of life, is not of
est ex Patre sed ex mundo est the Father, but is of the world.

2:17 et mundus transit et 17. And the world passeth away, and
concupiscentia eius qui autem facit the lust thereof: but he that doeth the
voluntatem Dei manet in aeternum will of God abideth for ever.

2:18 filioli novissima hora est et 18. Little children, it is the last
sicut audistis quia antichristus venit time: and as ye have heard that
nunc antichristi multi facti sunt unde antichrist shall come, even now are
scimus quoniam novissima hora est there many antichrists; whereby we know
that it is the last time.

2:19 ex nobis prodierunt sed non erant 19. They went out from us, but they
ex nobis nam si fuissent ex nobis were not of us; for if they had been of
permansissent utique nobiscum sed ut us, they would no doubt have continued
manifesti sint quoniam non sunt omnes with us: but they went out, that they
ex nobis might be made manifest that they were
                                             not all of us.

2:20 sed vos unctionem habetis a 20. But ye have an unction from the
Sancto et nostis omnia Holy One, and ye know all things.

2:21 non scripsi vobis quasi 21. I have not written unto you
ignorantibus veritatem sed quasi because ye know not the truth, but
scientibus eam et quoniam omne because ye know it, and that no lie is
mendacium ex veritate non est of the truth.

2:22 quis est mendax nisi is qui negat 22. Who is a liar but he that denieth
quoniam Iesus non est Christus hic est that Jesus is the Christ? He is
antichristus qui negat Patrem et Filium antichrist, that denieth the Father and
                                             the Son.

2:23 omnis qui negat Filium nec Patrem 23. Whosoever denieth the Son, the
habet qui confitetur Filium et Patrem same hath not the Father: he that
habet acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father
                                             also.

2:24 vos quod audistis ab initio in 24. Let that therefore abide in you,
vobis permaneat si in vobis permanserit which ye have heard from the beginning.
quod ab initio audistis et vos in Filio If that which ye have heard from the
et Patre manebitis beginning shall remain in you, ye also
shall continue in the Son, and in the
                                             Father.

2:25 et haec est repromissio quam ipse 25. And this is the promise that he
pollicitus est nobis vitam aeternam hath promised us, even eternal life.

2:26 haec scripsi vobis de eis qui 26. These things have I written unto
seducunt vos you concerning them that seduce you.

2:27 et vos unctionem quam accepistis 27. But the anointing which ye have
ab eo manet in vobis et non necesse received of him abideth in you, and ye
habetis ut aliquis doceat vos sed sicut need not that any man teach you: but as
unctio eius docet vos de omnibus et the same anointing teacheth you of all
verum est et non est mendacium et sicut things, and is truth, and is no lie,
docuit vos manete in eo and even as it hath taught you, ye
                                             shall abide in him.

2:28 et nunc filioli manete in eo ut 28. And now, little children, abide
cum apparuerit habeamus fiduciam et non in him; that, when he shall appear, we
confundamur ab eo in adventu eius may have confidence, and not be ashamed
                                             before him at his coming.

2:29 si scitis quoniam iustus est 29. If ye know that he is righteous,
scitote quoniam et omnis qui facit ye know that every one that doeth
iustitiam ex ipso natus est righteousness is born of him.
