Behold, what manner of love the nobis Pater ut filii Dei nominemur et Father hath bestowed upon us, that we sumus propter hoc mundus non novit nos should be called the sons of God: quia non novit eum therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 3:2 carissimi nunc filii Dei sumus et 2. Beloved, now are we the sons of nondum apparuit quid erimus scimus God, and it doth not yet appear what we quoniam cum apparuerit similes ei shall be: but we know that, when he erimus quoniam videbimus eum sicuti est shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3:3 et omnis qui habet spem hanc in eo 3. And every man that hath this hope sanctificat se sicut et ille sanctus est in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 3:4 omnis qui facit peccatum et 4. Whosoever committeth sin iniquitatem facit et peccatum est transgresseth also the law: for sin is iniquitas the transgression of the law. 3:5 et scitis quoniam ille apparuit ut 5. And ye know that he was manifested peccata tolleret et peccatum in eo non to take away our sins; and in him is no est sin. 3:6 omnis qui in eo manet non peccat 6. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth omnis qui peccat non vidit eum nec not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen cognovit eum him, neither known him. 3:7 filioli nemo vos seducat qui facit 7. Little children, let no man iustitiam iustus est sicut et ille deceive you: he that doeth iustus est righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 3:8 qui facit peccatum ex diabolo est 8. He that committeth sin is of the quoniam ab initio diabolus peccat in devil; for the devil sinneth from the hoc apparuit Filius Dei ut dissolvat beginning. For this purpose the Son of opera diaboli God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 3:9 omnis qui natus est ex Deo 9. Whosoever is born of God doth not peccatum non facit quoniam semen ipsius commit sin; for his seed remaineth in in eo manet et non potest peccare him: and he cannot sin, because he is quoniam ex Deo natus est born of God. 3:10 in hoc manifesti sunt filii Dei 10. In this the children of God are et filii diaboli omnis qui non est manifest, and the children of the iustus non est de Deo et qui non devil: whosoever doeth not diligit fratrem suum righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 3:11 quoniam haec est adnuntiatio quam 11. For this is the message that ye audistis ab initio ut diligamus heard from the beginning, that we alterutrum should love one another. 3:12 non sicut Cain ex maligno erat et 12. Not as Cain, who was of that occidit fratrem suum et propter quid wicked one, and slew his brother. And occidit eum quoniam opera eius maligna wherefore slew he him? Because his own erant fratris autem eius iusta works were evil, and his brother's righteous. 3:13 nolite mirari fratres si odit vos 13. Marvel not, my brethren, if the mundus world hate you. 3:14 nos scimus quoniam translati 14. We know that we have passed from sumus de morte in vitam quoniam death unto life, because we love the diligimus fratres qui non diligit manet brethren. He that loveth not his in morte brother abideth in death. 3:15 omnis qui odit fratrem suum 15. Whosoever hateth his brother is a homicida est et scitis quoniam omnis murderer: and ye know that no murderer homicida non habet vitam aeternam in se hath eternal life abiding in him. manentem 3:16 in hoc cognovimus caritatem 16. Hereby perceive we the love of quoniam ille pro nobis animam suam God, because he laid down his life for posuit et nos debemus pro fratribus us: and we ought to lay down our lives animas ponere for the brethren. 3:17 qui habuerit substantiam mundi et 17. But whoso hath this world's good, viderit fratrem suum necesse habere et and seeth his brother have need, and clauserit viscera sua ab eo quomodo shutteth up his bowels of compassion caritas Dei manet in eo from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 3:18 filioli non diligamus verbo nec 18. My little children, let us not lingua sed opere et veritate love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 3:19 in hoc cognoscimus quoniam ex 19. And hereby we know that we are of veritate sumus et in conspectu eius the truth, and shall assure our hearts suadeamus corda nostra before him. 3:20 quoniam si reprehenderit nos cor 20. For if our heart condemn us, God maior est Deus corde nostro et novit is greater than our heart, and knoweth omnia all things. 3:21 carissimi si cor non 21. Beloved, if our heart condemn us reprehenderit nos fiduciam habemus ad not, then have we confidence toward God. Deum 3:22 et quodcumque petierimus 22. And whatsoever we ask, we receive accipiemus ab eo quoniam mandata eius of him, because we keep his custodimus et ea quae sunt placita commandments, and do those things that coram eo facimus are pleasing in his sight. 3:23 et hoc est mandatum eius ut 23. And this is his commandment, That credamus in nomine Filii eius Iesu we should believe on the name of his Christi et diligamus alterutrum sicut Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, dedit mandatum nobis as he gave us commandment. 3:24 et qui servat mandata eius in 24. And he that keepeth his illo manet et ipse in eo et in hoc commandments dwelleth in him, and he in scimus quoniam manet in nobis de him. And hereby we know that he abideth Spiritu quem nobis dedit in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.Select Another Chapter: | NT Menu | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | Top of Chapter | |
