5:1 seniores ergo qui in vobis sunt 1. The elders which are among you I
obsecro consenior et testis Christi exhort, who am also an elder, and a
passionum qui et eius quae in futuro witness of the sufferings of Christ,
revelanda est gloriae communicator and also a partaker of the glory that
shall be revealed:
5:2 pascite qui est in vobis gregem 2. Feed the flock of God which is
Dei providentes non coacto sed among you, taking the oversight
spontanee secundum Deum neque turpis thereof, not by constraint, but
lucri gratia sed voluntarie willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of
a ready mind;
5:3 neque ut dominantes in cleris sed 3. Neither as being lords over God's
formae facti gregi et ex animo heritage, but being ensamples to the
flock.
5:4 et cum apparuerit princeps 4. And when the chief Shepherd shall
pastorum percipietis inmarcescibilem appear, ye shall receive a crown of
gloriae coronam glory that fadeth not away.
5:5 similiter adulescentes subditi 5. Likewise, ye younger, submit
estote senioribus omnes autem invicem yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of
humilitatem insinuate quia Deus you be subject one to another, and be
superbis resistit humilibus autem dat clothed with humility: for God
gratiam resisteth the proud, and giveth grace
to the humble.
5:6 humiliamini igitur sub potenti 6. Humble yourselves therefore under
manu Dei ut vos exaltet in tempore the mighty hand of God, that he may
visitationis exalt you in due time:
5:7 omnem sollicitudinem vestram 7. Casting all your care upon him; for
proicientes in eum quoniam ipsi cura he careth for you.
est de vobis
5:8 sobrii estote vigilate quia 8. Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversarius vester diabolus tamquam leo adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
rugiens circuit quaerens quem devoret walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour:
5:9 cui resistite fortes fide scientes 9. Whom resist stedfast in the faith,
eadem passionum ei quae in mundo est knowing that the same afflictions are
vestrae fraternitati fieri accomplished in your brethren that are
in the world.
5:10 Deus autem omnis gratiae qui 10. But the God of all grace, who hath
vocavit nos in aeternam suam gloriam in called us unto his eternal glory by
Christo Iesu modicum passos ipse Christ Jesus, after that ye have
perficiet confirmabit solidabit suffered a while, make you perfect,
stablish, strengthen, settle you.
5:11 ipsi imperium in saecula 11. To him be glory and dominion for
saeculorum amen ever and ever. Amen.
5:12 per Silvanum vobis fidelem 12. By Silvanus, a faithful brother
fratrem ut arbitror breviter scripsi unto you, as I suppose, I have written
obsecrans et contestans hanc esse veram briefly, exhorting, and testifying that
gratiam Dei in qua state this is the true grace of God wherein
ye stand.
5:13 salutat vos quae est in Babylone 13. The church that is at Babylon,
cumelecta et Marcus filius meus elected together with you, saluteth
you; and so doth Marcus my son.
5:14 salutate invicem in osculo sancto 14. Greet ye one another with a kiss
gratia vobis omnibus qui estis in of charity. Peace be with you all that
Christo are in Christ Jesus. Amen.
