1:1 Paulus et Silvanus et Timotheus 1. Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus,
ecclesiae Thessalonicensium in Deo unto the church of the Thessalonians
Patre et Domino Iesu Christo gratia which is in God the Father and in the
vobis et pax Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you,
and peace, from God our Father, and the
Lord Jesus Christ.
1:2 gratias agimus Deo semper pro 2. We give thanks to God always for
omnibus vobis memoriam facientes in you all, making mention of you in our
orationibus nostris sine intermissione prayers;
1:3 memores operis fidei vestrae et 3. Remembering without ceasing your
laboris et caritatis et sustinentiae work of faith, and labour of love, and
spei Domini nostri Iesu Christi ante patience of hope in our Lord Jesus
Deum et Patrem nostrum Christ, in the sight of God and our
Father;
1:4 scientes fratres dilecti a Deo 4. Knowing, brethren beloved, your
electionem vestram election of God.
1:5 quia evangelium nostrum non fuit 5. For our gospel came not unto you in
ad vos in sermone tantum sed et in word only, but also in power, and in
virtute et in Spiritu Sancto et in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance;
plenitudine multa sicut scitis quales as ye know what manner of men we were
fuerimus vobis propter vos among you for your sake.
1:6 et vos imitatores nostri facti 6. And ye became followers of us, and
estis et Domini excipientes verbum in of the Lord, having received the word
tribulatione multa cum gaudio Spiritus in much affliction, with joy of the
Sancti Holy Ghost.
1:7 ita ut facti sitis forma omnibus 7. So that ye were ensamples to all
credentibus in Macedonia et in Achaia that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
1:8 a vobis enim diffamatus est sermo 8. For from you sounded out the word
Domini non solum in Macedonia et in of the Lord not only in Macedonia and
Achaia sed in omni loco fides vestra Achaia, but also in every place your
quae est ad Deum profecta est ita ut faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so
non sit nobis necesse quicquam loqui that we need not to speak any thing.
1:9 ipsi enim de nobis adnuntiant 9. For they themselves shew of us what
qualem introitum habuerimus ad vos et manner of entering in we had unto you,
quomodo conversi estis ad Deum a and how ye turned to God from idols to
simulacris servire Deo vivo et vero serve the living and true God;
1:10 et expectare Filium eius de 10. And to wait for his Son from
caelis quem suscitavit ex mortuis Iesum heaven, whom he raised from the dead,
qui eripuit nos ab ira ventura even Jesus, which delivered us from the
wrath to come.
