4:1 de cetero ergo fratres rogamus vos 1. Furthermore then we beseech you,
et obsecramus in Domino Iesu ut brethren, and exhort you by the Lord
quemadmodum accepistis a nobis quomodo Jesus, that as ye have received of us
vos oporteat ambulare et placere Deo how ye ought to walk and to please God,
sicut et ambulatis ut abundetis magis so ye would abound more and more.

4:2 scitis enim quae praecepta 2. For ye know what commandments we
dederimus vobis per Dominum Iesum gave you by the Lord Jesus.

4:3 haec est enim voluntas Dei 3. For this is the will of God, even
sanctificatio vestra your sanctification, that ye should
                                             abstain from fornication:

4:4 ut abstineatis vos a fornicatione 4. That every one of you should know
ut sciat unusquisque vestrum suum vas how to possess his vessel in
possidere in sanctificatione et honore       sanctification and honour;

4:5 non in passione desiderii sicut et 5. Not in the lust of concupiscence,
gentes quae ignorant Deum even as the Gentiles which know not God:

4:6 ut ne quis supergrediatur neque 6. That no man go beyond and defraud
circumveniat in negotio fratrem suum his brother in any matter: because that
quoniam vindex est Dominus de his the Lord is the avenger of all such, as
omnibus sicut et praediximus vobis et we also have forewarned you and
testificati sumus                            testified.

4:7 non enim vocavit nos Deus in 7. For God hath not called us unto
inmunditia sed in sanctificatione uncleanness, but unto holiness.

4:8 itaque qui spernit non hominem 8. He therefore that despiseth,
spernit sed Deum qui etiam dedit despiseth not man, but God, who hath
Spiritum suum Sanctum in vobis also given unto us his holy Spirit.

4:9 de caritate autem fraternitatis 9. But as touching brotherly love ye
non necesse habemus scribere vobis ipsi need not that I write unto you: for ye
enim vos a Deo didicistis ut diligatis yourselves are taught of God to love
invicem                                      one another.

4:10 etenim facitis illud in omnes 10. And indeed ye do it toward all the
fratres in universa Macedonia rogamus brethren which are in all Macedonia:
autem vos fratres ut abundetis magis but we beseech you, brethren, that ye
                                             increase more and more;

4:11 et operam detis ut quieti sitis 11. And that ye study to be quiet, and
et ut vestrum negotium agatis et to do your own business, and to work
operemini manibus vestris sicut with your own hands, as we commanded
praecepimus vobis                            you;

4:12 et ut honeste ambuletis ad eos 12. That ye may walk honestly toward
qui foris sunt et nullius aliquid them that are without, and that ye may
desideretis                                  have lack of nothing.

4:13 nolumus autem vos ignorare 13. But I would not have you to be
fratres de dormientibus ut non ignorant, brethren, concerning them
contristemini sicut et ceteri qui spem which are asleep, that ye sorrow not,
non habent even as others which have no hope.

4:14 si enim credimus quod Iesus 14. For if we believe that Jesus died
mortuus est et resurrexit ita et Deus and rose again, even so them also which
eos qui dormierunt per Iesum adducet sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

4:15 hoc enim vobis dicimus in verbo 15. For this we say unto you by the

                                             asleep.

4:16 quoniam ipse Dominus in iussu et 16. For the Lord himself shall descend
in voce archangeli et in tuba Dei from heaven with a shout, with the

                                             shall rise first:

4:17 deinde nos qui vivimus qui 17. Then we which are alive and remain
relinquimur simul rapiemur cum illis in shall be caught up together with them

4:18 itaque consolamini invicem in 18. Wherefore comfort one another with
