5:1 de temporibus autem et momentis 1. But of the times and the seasons,
fratres non indigetis ut scribamus vobis brethren, ye have no need that I write
                                             unto you.

5:2 ipsi enim diligenter scitis quia 2. For yourselves know perfectly that
dies Domini sicut fur in nocte ita the day of the Lord so cometh as a
veniet thief in the night.

5:3 cum enim dixerint pax et securitas 3. For when they shall say, Peace and
tunc repentinus eis superveniet safety; then sudden destruction cometh
interitus sicut dolor in utero habenti upon them, as travail upon a woman with
et non effugient child; and they shall not escape.

5:4 vos autem fratres non estis in 4. But ye, brethren, are not in
tenebris ut vos dies ille tamquam fur darkness, that that day should overtake
conprehendat you as a thief.

5:5 omnes enim vos filii lucis estis 5. Ye are all the children of light,
et filii diei non sumus noctis neque and the children of the day: we are not
tenebrarum of the night, nor of darkness.

5:6 igitur non dormiamus sicut ceteri 6. Therefore let us not sleep, as do
sed vigilemus et sobrii simus others; but let us watch and be sober.

5:7 qui enim dormiunt nocte dormiunt 7. For they that sleep sleep in the
et qui ebrii sunt nocte ebrii sunt night; and they that be drunken are
                                             drunken in the night.

5:8 nos autem qui diei sumus sobrii 8. But let us, who are of the day, be
simus induti loricam fidei et caritatis sober, putting on the breastplate of
et galeam spem salutis faith and love; and for an helmet, the
                                             hope of salvation.

5:9 quoniam non posuit nos Deus in 9. For God hath not appointed us to
iram sed in adquisitionem salutis per wrath, but to obtain salvation by our
Dominum nostrum Iesum Christum Lord Jesus Christ,

5:10 qui mortuus est pro nobis ut sive 10. Who died for us, that, whether we
vigilemus sive dormiamus simul cum illo wake or sleep, we should live together
vivamus with him.

5:11 propter quod consolamini invicem 11. Wherefore comfort yourselves
et aedificate alterutrum sicut et together, and edify one another, even
facitis as also ye do.

5:12 rogamus autem vos fratres ut 12. And we beseech you, brethren, to
noveritis eos qui laborant inter vos et know them which labour among you, and
praesunt vobis in Domino et monent vos are over you in the Lord, and admonish
                                             you;

5:13 ut habeatis illos abundantius in 13. And to esteem them very highly in
caritate propter opus illorum pacem love for their work's sake. And be at
habete cum eis peace among yourselves.
