2:1 nam ipsi scitis fratres introitum 1. For yourselves, brethren, know our
nostrum ad vos quia non inanis fuit entrance in unto you, that it was not
                                             in vain:

2:2 sed ante passi et contumeliis 2. But even after that we had suffered
affecti sicut scitis in Philippis before, and were shamefully entreated,
fiduciam habuimus in Deo nostro loqui as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold
ad vos evangelium Dei in multa in our God to speak unto you the gospel
sollicitudine of God with much contention.

2:3 exhortatio enim nostra non de 3. For our exhortation was not of
errore neque de inmunditia neque in dolo deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in
                                             guile:

2:4 sed sicut probati sumus a Deo ut 4. But as we were allowed of God to be
crederetur nobis evangelium ita put in trust with the gospel, even so
loquimur non quasi hominibus placentes we speak; not as pleasing men, but God,
sed Deo qui probat corda nostra which trieth our hearts.

2:5 neque enim aliquando fuimus in 5. For neither at any time used we
sermone adulationis sicut scitis neque flattering words, as ye know, nor a
in occasione avaritiae Deus testis est cloke of covetousness; God is witness:

2:6 nec quaerentes ab hominibus 6. Nor of men sought we glory, neither
gloriam neque a vobis neque ab aliis of you, nor yet of others, when we
might have been burdensome, as the
                                             apostles of Christ.

2:7 cum possimus oneri esse ut Christi 7. But we were gentle among you, even
apostoli sed facti sumus lenes in medio as a nurse cherisheth her children:
vestrum tamquam si nutrix foveat filios
suos

2:8 ita desiderantes vos cupide 8. So being affectionately desirous of
volebamus tradere vobis non solum you, we were willing to have imparted
evangelium Dei sed etiam animas nostras unto you, not the gospel of God only,
quoniam carissimi nobis facti estis but also our own souls, because ye were
                                             dear unto us.

2:9 memores enim estis fratres laborem 9. For ye remember, brethren, our
nostrum et fatigationem nocte et die labour and travail: for labouring night
operantes ne quem vestrum gravaremus and day, because we would not be
praedicavimus in vobis evangelium Dei chargeable unto any of you, we preached
unto you the gospel of God.

2:10 vos testes estis et Deus quam 10. Ye are witnesses, and God also,
sancte et iuste et sine querella vobis how holily and justly and unblameably
qui credidistis fuimus we behaved ourselves among you that
                                             believe:

2:11 sicut scitis qualiter unumquemque 11. As ye know how we exhorted and
vestrum tamquam pater filios suos comforted and charged every one of you,
as a father doth his children,

2:12 deprecantes vos et consolantes 12. That ye would walk worthy of God,
testificati sumus ut ambularetis digne who hath called you unto his kingdom
Deo qui vocavit vos in suum regnum et and glory.
gloriam

2:13 ideo et nos gratias agimus Deo 13. For this cause also thank we God
sine intermissione quoniam cum without ceasing, because, when ye
accepissetis a nobis verbum auditus Dei received the word of God which ye heard
accepistis non ut verbum hominum sed of us, ye received it not as the word
sicut est vere verbum Dei qui operatur of men, but as it is in truth, the word
in vobis qui credidistis of God, which effectually worketh also
                                             in you that believe.

2:14 vos enim imitatores facti estis 14. For ye, brethren, became followers
fratres ecclesiarum Dei quae sunt in of the churches of God which in Judaea
Iudaea in Christo Iesu quia eadem passi are in Christ Jesus: for ye also have
estis et vos a contribulibus vestris suffered like things of your own
sicut et ipsi a Iudaeis countrymen, even as they have of the
                                             Jews:

2:15 qui et Dominum occiderunt Iesum 15. Who both killed the Lord Jesus,
et prophetas et nos persecuti sunt et and their own prophets, and have
Deo non placent et omnibus hominibus persecuted us; and they please not God,
adversantur and are contrary to all men:

2:16 prohibentes nos gentibus loqui ut 16. Forbidding us to speak to the
salvae fiant ut impleant peccata sua Gentiles that they might be saved, to
semper praevenit autem ira Dei super fill up their sins alway: for the wrath
illos usque in finem is come upon them to the uttermost.

2:17 nos autem fratres desolati a 17. But we, brethren, being taken from
vobis ad tempus horae aspectu non corde you for a short time in presence, not
abundantius festinavimus faciem vestram in heart, endeavoured the more
videre cum multo desiderio abundantly to see your face with great
                                             desire.

2:18 quoniam voluimus venire ad vos 18. Wherefore we would have come unto
ego quidem Paulus et semel et iterum et you, even I Paul, once and again; but
inpedivit nos Satanas Satan hindered us.

2:19 quae est enim nostra spes aut 19. For what is our hope, or joy, or
gaudium aut corona gloriae nonne vos crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in
ante Dominum nostrum Iesum estis in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ
adventu eius at his coming?

2:20 vos enim estis gloria nostra et 20. For ye are our glory and joy.
gaudium
