2:1  deinde post annos quattuordecim         1.  Then fourteen years after I went up  
iterum ascendi Hierosolyma cum Barnaba       again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and  
adsumpto et Tito                             took Titus with me also.
                                             
2:2  ascendi autem secundum                  2.  And I went up by revelation, and  
revelationem et contuli cum illis            communicated unto them that gospel  
evangelium quod praedico in gentibus         which I preach among the Gentiles, but  
seorsum autem his qui videbantur ne          privately to them which were of  
forte in vacuum currerem aut cucurrissem     reputation, lest by any means I should  
                                             run, or had run, in vain.
                                             
2:3  sed neque Titus qui mecum erat cum      3.  But neither Titus, who was with me,  
esset gentilis conpulsus est circumcidi      being a Greek, was compelled to be  
                                             circumcised:
                                             
2:4  sed propter subintroductos falsos       4.  And that because of false brethren  
fratres qui subintroierunt explorare         unawares brought in, who came in  
libertatem nostram quam habemus in           privily to spy out our liberty which we  
Christo Iesu ut nos in servitutem            have in Christ Jesus, that they might  
redigerent                                   bring us into bondage:
                                             
2:5  quibus neque ad horam cessimus          5.  To whom we gave place by  
subiectioni ut veritas evangelii             subjection, no, not for an hour; that  
permaneat apud vos                           the truth of the gospel might continue  
                                             with you.
                                             
2:6  ab his autem qui videbantur esse        6.  But of these who seemed to be  
aliquid quales aliquando fuerint nihil       somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it  
mea interest Deus personam hominis non       maketh no matter to me: God accepteth  
accipit mihi enim qui videbantur nihil       no man's person:) for they who seemed  
contulerunt                                  to be somewhat in conference added  
                                             nothing to me:
                                             
2:7  sed e contra cum vidissent quod         7.  But contrariwise, when they saw  
creditum est mihi evangelium praeputii       that the gospel of the uncircumcision  
sicut Petro circumcisionis                   was committed unto me, as the gospel of  
                                             the circumcision was unto Peter;
                                             
2:8  qui enim operatus est Petro in          8.  (For he that wrought effectually in  
apostolatum circumcisionis operatus est      Peter to the apostleship of the

                                             toward the Gentiles:)
                                             
2:9  et cum cognovissent gratiam quae        9.  And when James, Cephas, and John,

2:10  tantum ut pauperum memores             10.  Only they would that we should  
essemus quod etiam sollicitus fui hoc        remember the poor; the same which I  
ipsum facere                                 also was forward to do.
                                             
2:11  cum autem venisset Cephas              11.  But when Peter was come to  
Antiochiam in faciem ei restiti quia         Antioch, I withstood him to the face,  
reprehensibilis erat                         because he was to be blamed.
                                             
2:12  prius enim quam venirent quidam        12.  For before that certain came from  
ab Iacobo cum gentibus edebat cum autem      James, he did eat with the Gentiles:  
venissent subtrahebat et segregabat se       but when they were come, he withdrew  
timens eos qui ex circumcisione erant        and separated himself, fearing them  
                                             which were of the circumcision.
                                             
2:13  et simulationi eius consenserunt       13.  And the other Jews dissembled  
ceteri Iudaei ita ut et Barnabas             likewise with him; insomuch that  
duceretur ab eis in illa simulatione         Barnabas also was carried away with  
                                             their dissimulation.
                                             
2:14  sed cum vidissem quod non recte        14.  But when I saw that they walked  
ambularent ad veritatem evangelii dixi       not uprightly according to the truth of  
Cephae coram omnibus si tu cum Iudaeus       the gospel, I said unto Peter before  
sis gentiliter et non iudaice vivis          them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest  
quomodo gentes cogis iudaizare               after the manner of Gentiles, and not  
                                             as do the Jews, why compellest thou the  
                                             Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
                                             
2:15  nos natura Iudaei et non ex            15.  We who are Jews by nature, and not  
gentibus peccatores                          sinners of the Gentiles,
                                             
2:16  scientes autem quod non                16.  Knowing that a man is not  
iustificatur homo ex operibus legis          justified by the works of the law, but  
nisi per fidem Iesu Christi et nos in        by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we  
Christo Iesu credidimus ut iustificemur      have believed in Jesus Christ, that we  
ex fide Christi et non ex operibus           might be justified by the faith of  
legis propter quod ex operibus legis         Christ, and not by the works of the  
non iustificabitur omnis caro                law: for by the works of the law shall  
                                             no flesh be justified.
                                             
2:17  quod si quaerentes iustificari in      17.  But if, while we seek to be  
Christo inventi sumus et ipsi                justified by Christ, we ourselves also  
peccatores numquid Christus peccati          are found sinners, is therefore Christ  
minister est absit                           the minister of sin? God forbid.
                                             
2:18  si enim quae destruxi haec iterum      18.  For if I build again the things  
aedifico praevaricatorem me constituo        which I destroyed, I make myself a  
                                             transgressor.
                                             
2:19  ego enim per legem legi mortuus        19.  For I through the law am dead to  
sum ut Deo vivam Christo confixus sum        the law, that I might live unto God.

2:20  vivo autem iam non ego vivit vero      20.  I am crucified with Christ:  
in me Christus quod autem nunc vivo in       neverthless I live; yet not I, but  
carne in fide vivo Filii Dei qui             Christ liveth in me: and the life which  
dilexit me et tradidit se ipsum pro me       I now live in the flesh I live by the  
                                             faith of the Son of God, who loved me,  
                                             and gave himself for me.
                                             
2:21  non abicio gratiam Dei si enim         21.  I do not frustrate the grace of  
per legem iustitia ergo Christus gratis      God: for if righteousness come by the  
mortuus est                                  law, then Christ is dead in vain.
