3:1 o insensati Galatae quis vos 1. O foolish Galatians, who hath
fascinavit ante quorum oculos Iesus bewitched you, that ye should not obey
Christus proscriptus est crucifixus the truth, before whose eyes Jesus
Christ hath been evidently set forth,
                                             crucified among you?

3:2 hoc solum volo a vobis discere ex 2. This only would I learn of you,
operibus legis Spiritum accepistis an Received ye the Spirit by the works of
ex auditu fidei the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3:3 sic stulti estis cum Spiritu 3. Are ye so foolish? having begun in
coeperitis nunc carne consummamini the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by
                                             the flesh?

3:4 tanta passi estis sine causa si 4. Have ye suffered so many things in
tamen sine causa vain? if it be yet in vain.

3:5 qui ergo tribuit vobis Spiritum et 5. He therefore that ministereth to
operatur virtutes in vobis ex operibus you the Spirit, and worketh miracles
legis an ex auditu fidei among you, doeth he it by the works of
the law, or by the hearing of faith?

3:6 sicut Abraham credidit Deo et 6. Even as Abraham believed God, and
reputatum est ei ad iustitiam it was accounted to him for
                                             righteousness.

3:7 cognoscitis ergo quia qui ex fide 7. Know ye therefore that they which
sunt hii sunt filii Abrahae are of faith, the same are the children
                                             of Abraham.

3:8 providens autem scriptura quia ex 8. And the scripture, foreseeing that
fide iustificat gentes Deus God would justify the heathen through
praenuntiavit Abrahae quia benedicentur faith, preached before the gospel unto
in te omnes gentes Abraham, saying, In thee shall all
                                             nations be blessed.

3:9 igitur qui ex fide sunt 9. So then they which be of faith are
benedicentur cum fideli Abraham blessed with faithful Abraham.

3:10 quicumque enim ex operibus legis 10. For as many as are of the works of
sunt sub maledicto sunt scriptum est the law are under the curse: for it is
enim maledictus omnis qui non written, Cursed is every one that
permanserit in omnibus quae scripta continueth not in all things which are
sunt in libro legis ut faciat ea written in the book of the law to do
                                             them.

3:11 quoniam autem in lege nemo 11. But that no man is justified by
iustificatur apud Deum manifestum est the law in the sight of God, it is
quia iustus ex fide vivit evident: for, The just shall live by
                                             faith.

3:12 lex autem non est ex fide sed qui 12. And the law is not of faith: but,
fecerit ea vivet in illis The man that doeth them shall live in
                                             them.

3:13 Christus nos redemit de maledicto 13. Christ hath redeemed us from the
legis factus pro nobis maledictum quia curse of the law, being made a curse
scriptum est maledictus omnis qui for us: for it is written, Cursed is
pendet in ligno every one that hangeth on a tree:

3:14 ut in gentibus benedictio Abrahae 14. That the blessing of Abraham might
fieret in Christo Iesu ut come on the Gentiles through Jesus
pollicitationem Spiritus accipiamus per Christ; that we might receive the
fidem promise of the Spirit through faith.

3:15 fratres secundum hominem dico 15. Brethren, I speak after the manner
tamen hominis confirmatum testamentum of men; Though it be but a man's
nemo spernit aut superordinat covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no
                                             man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

3:16 Abrahae dictae sunt promissiones 16. Now to Abraham and his seed were
et semini eius non dicit et seminibus the promises made. He saith not, And to
quasi in multis sed quasi in uno et seeds, as of many; but as of one, And
semini tuo qui est Christus to thy seed, which is Christ.

3:17 hoc autem dico testamentum 17. And this I say, that the covenant,
confirmatum a Deo quae post that was confirmed before of God in
quadringentos et triginta annos facta Christ, the law, which was four hundred
est lex non irritam facit ad evacuandam and thirty years after, cannot
promissionem disannul, that it should make the
                                             promise of none effect.

3:18 nam si ex lege hereditas iam non 18. For if the inheritance be of the
ex repromissione Abrahae autem per law, it is no more of promise: but God
promissionem donavit Deus gave it to Abraham by promise.

3:19 quid igitur lex propter 19. Wherefore then serveth the law? It
transgressiones posita est donec was added because of transgressions,
veniret semen cui promiserat ordinata till the seed should come to whom the
per angelos in manu mediatoris promise was made; and it was ordained
by angels in the hand of a mediator.

3:20 mediator autem unius non est Deus 20. Now a mediator is not a mediator
autem unus est of one, but God is one.

3:21 lex ergo adversus promissa Dei 21. Is the law then against the
absit si enim data esset lex quae promises of God? God forbid: for if
posset vivificare vere ex lege esset there had been a law given which could
iustitia have given life, verily righteousness
should have been by the law.

3:22 sed conclusit scriptura omnia sub 22. But the scripture hath concluded
peccato ut promissio ex fide Iesu all under sin, that the promise by
Christi daretur credentibus faith of Jesus Christ might be given to
                                             them that believe.

3:23 prius autem quam veniret fides 23. But before faith came, we were
sub lege custodiebamur conclusi in eam kept under the law, shut up unto the
fidem quae revelanda erat faith which should afterwards be
                                             revealed.

3:24 itaque lex pedagogus noster fuit 24. Wherefore the law was our
in Christo ut ex fide iustificemur schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ,
that we might be justified by faith.

3:25 at ubi venit fides iam non sumus 25. But after that faith is come, we
sub pedagogo are no longer under a schoolmaster.

3:26 omnes enim filii Dei estis per 26. For ye are all the children of God
fidem in Christo Iesu by faith in Christ Jesus.

3:27 quicumque enim in Christo 27. For as many of you as have been
baptizati estis Christum induistis baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

3:28 non est Iudaeus neque Graecus non 28. There is neither Jew nor Greek,
est servus neque liber non est masculus there is neither bond nor free, there
neque femina omnes enim vos unum estis is neither male nor female: for ye are
in Christo Iesu all one in Christ Jesus.

3:29 si autem vos Christi ergo Abrahae 29. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye
semen estis secundum promissionem Abraham's seed, and heirs according to
heredes the promise.
