1:1 Paulus apostolus Christi Iesu per 1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by
voluntatem Dei sanctis omnibus qui sunt the will of God, to the saints which
Ephesi et fidelibus in Christo Iesu are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in
                                             Christ Jesus:

1:2 gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre 2. Grace be to you, and peace, from
nostro et Domino Iesu Christo God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus
                                             Christ.

1:3 benedictus Deus et Pater Domini 3. Blessed be the God and Father of
nostri Iesu Christi qui benedixit nos our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed
in omni benedictione spiritali in us with all spiritual blessings in
caelestibus in Christo heavenly places in Christ:

1:4 sicut elegit nos in ipso ante 4. According as he hath chosen us in
mundi constitutionem ut essemus sancti him before the foundation of the world,
et inmaculati in conspectu eius in that we should be holy and without
caritate blame before him in love:

1:5 qui praedestinavit nos in 5. Having predestinated us unto the
adoptionem filiorum per Iesum Christum adoption of children by Jesus Christ to
in ipsum secundum propositum voluntatis himself, according to the good pleasure
suae of his will,

1:6 in laudem gloriae gratiae suae in 6. To the praise of the glory of his
qua gratificavit nos in dilecto grace, wherein he hath made us accepted
                                             in the beloved.

1:7 in quo habemus redemptionem per 7. In whom we have redemption through
sanguinem eius remissionem peccatorum his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
secundum divitias gratiae eius               according to the riches of his grace;

1:8 quae superabundavit in nobis in 8. Wherein he hath abounded toward us
omni sapientia et prudentia                  in all wisdom and prudence;

1:9 ut notum faceret nobis sacramentum 9. Having made known unto us the
voluntatis suae secundum bonum placitum mystery of his will, according to his
eius quod proposuit in eo good pleasure which he hath purposed in
                                             himself:

1:10 in dispensationem plenitudinis 10. That in the dispensation of the
temporum instaurare omnia in Christo fulness of times he might gather
quae in caelis et quae in terra sunt in together in one all things in Christ,
ipso both which are in heaven, and which are
                                             on earth; even in him:

1:11 in quo etiam sorte vocati sumus 11. In whom also we have obtained an
praedestinati secundum propositum eius inheritance, being predestinated
qui omnia operatur secundum consilium according to the purpose of him who
voluntatis suae worketh all things after the counsel of
                                             his own will:

1:12 ut simus in laudem gloriae eius 12. That we should be to the praise of
qui ante speravimus in Christo his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

1:13 in quo et vos cum audissetis 13. In whom ye also trusted, after
verbum veritatis evangelium salutis that ye heard the word of truth, the
vestrae in quo et credentes signati gospel of your salvation: in whom also
estis Spiritu promissionis Sancto after that ye believed, ye were sealed
with that holy Spirit of promise,

1:14 qui est pignus hereditatis 14. Which is the earnest of our
nostrae in redemptionem adquisitionis inheritance until the redemption of the
in laudem gloriae ipsius purchased possession, unto the praise
                                             of his glory.

1:15 propterea et ego audiens fidem 15. Wherefore I also, after I heard of
vestram quae est in Domino Iesu et your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love
dilectionem in omnes sanctos unto all the saints,

1:16 non cesso gratias agens pro vobis 16. Cease not to give thanks for you,
memoriam vestri faciens in orationibus       making mention of you in my prayers;
meis

1:17 ut Deus Domini nostri Iesu 17. That the God of our Lord Jesus
Christi Pater gloriae det vobis Christ, the Father of glory, may give
spiritum sapientiae et revelationis in unto you the spirit of wisdom and
agnitione eius revelation in the knowledge of him:

1:18 inluminatos oculos cordis vestri 18. The eyes of your understanding
ut sciatis quae sit spes vocationis being enlightened; that ye may know
eius quae divitiae gloriae hereditatis what is the hope of his calling, and
eius in sanctis what the riches of the glory of his
                                             inheritance in the saints,

1:19 et quae sit supereminens 19. And what is the exceeding
magnitudo virtutis eius in nos qui greatness of his power to us-ward who
credidimus secundum operationem believe, according to the working of
potentiae virtutis eius his mighty power,

1:20 quam operatus est in Christo 20. Which he wrought in Christ, when
suscitans illum a mortuis et he raised him from the dead, and set
constituens ad dexteram suam in him at his own right hand in the
caelestibus heavenly places,

1:21 supra omnem principatum et 21. Far above all principality, and
potestatem et virtutem et dominationem power, and might, and dominion, and
et omne nomen quod nominatur non solum every name that is named, not only in
in hoc saeculo sed et in futuro this world, but also in that which is
                                             to come:

1:22 et omnia subiecit sub pedibus 22. And hath put all things under his
eius et ipsum dedit caput supra omnia feet, and gave him to be the head over
ecclesiae all things to the church,

1:23 quae est corpus ipsius plenitudo 23. Which is his body, the fulness of
eius qui omnia in omnibus adimpletur him that filleth all in all.
