5:1 estote ergo imitatores Dei sicut 1. Be ye therefore followers of God,
filii carissimi                              as dear children;

5:2 et ambulate in dilectione sicut et 2. And walk in love, as Christ also
Christus dilexit nos et tradidit se hath loved us, and hath given himself
ipsum pro nobis oblationem et hostiam for us an offering and a sacrifice to
Deo in odorem suavitatis God for a sweetsmelling savour.

5:3 fornicatio autem et omnis 3. But fornication, and all
inmunditia aut avaritia nec nominetur uncleanness, or covetousness, let it
in vobis sicut decet sanctos not be once named among you, as
                                             becometh saints;

5:4 aut turpitudo aut stultiloquium 4. Neither filthiness, nor foolish
aut scurrilitas quae ad rem non talking, nor jesting, which are not
pertinent sed magis gratiarum actio convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

5:5 hoc enim scitote intellegentes 5. For this ye know, that no
quod omnis fornicator aut inmundus aut whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor
avarus quod est idolorum servitus non covetous man, who is an idolater, hath
habet hereditatem in regno Christi et any inheritance in the kingdom of
Dei                                          Christ and of God.

5:6 nemo vos seducat inanibus verbis 6. Let no man deceive you with vain
propter haec enim venit ira Dei in words: for because of these things
filios diffidentiae cometh the wrath of God upon the
                                             children of disobedience.

5:7 nolite ergo effici participes eorum 7. Be not ye therefore partakers with
                                             them.

5:8 eratis enim aliquando tenebrae 8. For ye were sometimes darkness, but
nunc autem lux in Domino ut filii lucis now are ye light in the Lord: walk as
ambulate                                     children of light:

5:9 fructus enim lucis est in omni 9. (For the fruit of the Spirit is in
bonitate et iustitia et veritate all goodness and righteousness and
                                             truth;)

5:10 probantes quid sit beneplacitum 10. Proving what is acceptable unto
Deo                                          the Lord.

5:11 et nolite communicare operibus 11. And have no fellowship with the
infructuosis tenebrarum magis autem et unfruitful works of darkness, but
redarguite                                   rather reprove them.

5:12 quae enim in occulto fiunt ab 12. For it is a shame even to speak of
ipsis turpe est et dicere those things which are done of them in
                                             secret.

5:13 omnia autem quae arguuntur a 13. But all things that are reproved
lumine manifestantur omne enim quod are made manifest by the light: for
manifestatur lumen est whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

5:14 propter quod dicit surge qui 14. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou
dormis et exsurge a mortuis et that sleepest, and arise from the dead,
inluminabit tibi Christus and Christ shall give thee light.

5:15 videte itaque fratres quomodo 15. See then that ye walk
caute ambuletis non quasi insipientes circumspectly, not as fools, but as
sed ut sapientes                             wise,

5:16 redimentes tempus quoniam dies 16. Redeeming the time, because the
mali sunt                                    days are evil.

5:17 propterea nolite fieri 17. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but
inprudentes sed intellegentes quae sit understanding what the will of the Lord
voluntas Domini                              is.

5:18 et nolite inebriari vino in quo 18. And be not drunk with wine,
est luxuria sed implemini Spiritu wherein is excess; but be filled with
                                             the Spirit;

5:19 loquentes vobismet ipsis in 19. Speaking to yourselves in psalms
psalmis et hymnis et canticis and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
spiritalibus cantantes et psallentes in and making melody in your heart to the
cordibus vestris Domino                      Lord;

5:20 gratias agentes semper pro 20. Giving thanks always for all
omnibus in nomine Domini nostri Iesu things unto God and the Father in the
Christi Deo et Patri                         name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

5:21 subiecti invicem in timore Christi 21. Submitting yourselves one to
                                             another in the fear of God.

5:22 mulieres viris suis subditae sint 22. Wives, submit yourselves unto your
sicut Domino own husbands, as unto the Lord.

5:23 quoniam vir caput est mulieris 23. For the husband is the head of the
sicut Christus caput est ecclesiae ipse wife, even as Christ is the head of the
salvator corporis church: and he is the saviour of the
                                             body.

5:24 sed ut ecclesia subiecta est 24. Therefore as the church is subject
Christo ita et mulieres viris suis in unto Christ, so let the wives be to
omnibus their own husbands in every thing.

5:25 viri diligite uxores sicut et 25. Husbands, love your wives, even as
Christus dilexit ecclesiam et se ipsum Christ also loved the church, and gave
tradidit pro ea                              himself for it;

5:26 ut illam sanctificaret mundans 26. That he might sanctify and cleanse
lavacro aquae in verbo it with the washing of water by the
                                             word,

5:27 ut exhiberet ipse sibi gloriosam 27. That he might present it to
ecclesiam non habentem maculam aut himself a glorious church, not having
rugam aut aliquid eiusmodi sed ut sit        spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing;
sancta et inmaculata but that it should be holy and without
                                             blemish.

5:28 ita et viri debent diligere 28. So ought men to love their wives
uxores suas ut corpora sua qui suam as their own bodies. He that loveth his
uxorem diligit se ipsum diligit wife loveth himself.

5:29 nemo enim umquam carnem suam odio 29. For no man ever yet hated his own
habuit sed nutrit et fovet eam sicut et flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth
Christus ecclesiam it, even as the Lord the church:

5:30 quia membra sumus corporis eius 30. For we are members of his body, of
de carne eius et de ossibus eius his flesh, and of his bones.

5:31 propter hoc relinquet homo patrem 31. For this cause shall a man leave
et matrem suam et adherebit uxori suae his father and mother, and shall be
et erunt duo in carne una joined unto his wife, and they two
                                             shall be one flesh.

5:32 sacramentum hoc magnum est ego 32. This is a great mystery: but I
autem dico in Christo et in ecclesia speak concerning Christ and the church.

5:33 verumtamen et vos singuli 33. Nevertheless let every one of you
unusquisque suam uxorem sicut se ipsum in particular so love his wife even as
diligat uxor autem ut timeat virum himself; and the wife see that she
                                             reverence her husband.
