6:1  filii oboedite parentibus vestris       1.  Children, obey your parents in the
in Domino hoc enim est iustum                Lord: for this is right.
6:2  honora patrem tuum et matrem quod       2.  Honour thy father and mother; which
est mandatum primum in promissione           is the first commandment with promise;
6:3  ut bene sit tibi et sis longevus        3.  That it may be well with thee, and
super terram                                 thou mayest live long on the earth.
6:4  et patres nolite ad iracundiam          4.  And, ye fathers, provoke not your
provocare filios vestros sed educate         children to wrath: but bring them up in
illos in disciplina et correptione           the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

6:5  servi oboedite dominis carnalibus       5.  Servants, be obedient to them that
cum timore et tremore in simplicitate        are your masters according to the

                                             singleness of your heart, as unto
                                             Christ;
6:6  non ad oculum servientes quasi          6.  Not with eyeservice, as
hominibus placentes sed ut servi             menpleasers; but as the servants of
Christi facientes voluntatem Dei ex          Christ, doing the will of God from the
animo                                        heart;
6:7  cum bona voluntate servientes           7.  With good will doing service, as to
sicut Domino et non hominibus                the Lord, and not to men:
6:8  scientes quoniam unusquisque            8.  Knowing that whatsoever good thing
quodcumque fecerit bonum hoc percipiet       any man doeth, the same shall he
a Domino sive servus sive liber              receive of the Lord, whether he be bond
                                             or free.
6:9  et domini eadem facite illis            9.  And, ye masters, do the same things
remittentes minas scientes quia et           unto them, forbearing threatening:
illorum et vester Dominus est in caelis      knowing that your Master also is in

6:10  de cetero fratres confortamini in      10.  Finally, my brethren, be strong in
Domino et in potentia virtutis eius          the Lord, and in the power of his might.
6:11  induite vos arma Dei ut possitis       11.  Put on the whole armour of God,
stare adversus insidias diaboli              that ye may be able to stand against
                                             the wiles of the devil.
6:12  quia non est nobis conluctatio         12.  For we wrestle not against flesh
adversus carnem et sanguinem sed             and blood, but against principalities,
adversus principes et potestates             against powers, against the rulers of
adversus mundi rectores tenebrarum           the darkness of this world, against
harum contra spiritalia nequitiae in         spiritual wickedness in high places.

6:13  propterea accipite armaturam Dei       13.  Wherefore take unto you the whole
ut possitis resistere in die malo et         armour of God, that ye may be able to
omnibus perfectis stare                      withstand in the evil day, and having
                                             done all, to stand.
6:14  state ergo succincti lumbos            14.  Stand therefore, having your loins
vestros in veritate et induti loricam        girt about with truth, and having on
iustitiae                                    the breastplate of righteousness;
6:15  et calciati pedes in                   15.  And your feet shod with the
praeparatione evangelii pacis                preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16  in omnibus sumentes scutum fidei       16.  Above all, taking the shield of
in quo possitis omnia tela nequissimi        faith, wherewith ye shall be able to
ignea extinguere                             quench all the fiery darts of the
                                             wicked.
6:17  et galeam salutis adsumite et          17.  And take the helmet of salvation,
gladium Spiritus quod est verbum Dei         and the sword of the Spirit, which is
                                             the word of God:
6:18  per omnem orationem et                 18.  Praying always with all prayer and
obsecrationem orantes omni tempore in        supplication in the Spirit, and
Spiritu et in ipso vigilantes in omni        watching thereunto with all
instantia et obsecratione pro omnibus        perseverance and supplication for all
sanctis                                      saints;
6:19  et pro me ut detur mihi sermo in       19.  And for me, that utterance may be
apertione oris mei cum fiducia notum         given unto me, that I may open my mouth
facere mysterium evangelii                   boldly, to make known the mystery of
                                             the gospel,
6:20  pro quo legatione fungor in            20.  For which I am an ambassador in
catena ita ut in ipso audeam prout           bonds: that therein I may speak boldly,
oportet me loqui                             as I ought to speak.
6:21  ut autem et vos sciatis quae           21.  But that ye also may know my
circa me sunt quid agam omnia nota           affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a
vobis faciet Tychicus carissimus frater      beloved brother and faithful minister
et fidelis minister in Domino                in the Lord, shall make known to you
                                             all things:
6:22  quem misi ad vos in hoc ipsum ut       22.  Whom I have sent unto you for the
cognoscatis quae circa nos sunt et           same purpose, that ye might know our
consoletur corda vestra                      affairs, and that he might comfort your
                                             hearts.
6:23  pax fratribus et caritas cum fide      23.  Peace be to the brethren, and love
a Deo Patre et Domino Iesu Christo           with faith, from God the Father and the
                                             Lord Jesus Christ.
6:24  gratia cum omnibus qui diligunt        24.  Grace be with all them that love
Dominum nostrum Iesum Christum in            our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.
