Centennial Convention Report (1910)

ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC EDITION.

The electronic edition of the Centennial Convention Report has been produced from a copy of the printed text published by The Standard Publishing Company (Cincinnati, OH: [1910]). Although no date of publication is specified, the date of the balance sheet for the "Centennial Campaign Fund" (pp. 12-13) indicates that it must have been some time after February 15, 1910. The general editorship has been ascribed to W. R. Warren, who served as Chairman of the Centennial Convention Committee. The editors of the manuscripts of addresses were Gilbert L. Harney, George W. Knepper, John Ray Ewers, O. H. Philips, A. W. Fortune, Justin N. Green, A. McLean, Marion Stevenson, A. L. Orcutt, George W. Muckley, J. H. Mohorter, and I. J. Beatty (p. 15).

The "Chautauqua salute" mentioned throughout is explained by Herbert Moninger at page 532. The Chautauqua salute--the audience's standing and waving white handkerchiefs in lieu of applause--has its origin in the popular lyceum and amusement enterprise of the late 19th and early 20 centuries at Lake Chautauqua in western New York.

The electronic edition has been produced from text scanned by Colvil Smith and formatted by Ernie Stefanik.

Pagination in the electronic version has been represented by placing the page number in brackets following the last complete word on the printed page. Inconsistencies in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and typography have been retained; however, corrections have been offered for misspellings and other accidental corruptions. Corrections and improvements to the Index are too numerous to detail here. Emendations are as follows:
