Shideler, Elder George (originally, the obituary had Shields, but B. W. Stone
corrected it in later issue) died Aug. 27, 1828. He had been
involved in a meeting at Eaton and was on his way home from
Hamilton when he "was attacked violently with a fever." He
stopped at home of a brother Pottenger about 13 miles from his
own home and sent for his wife and children. All medical aid
failed and he died "without a murmer" five days later. He left
a wife and two daughters. Obituary by Levi Purviance.

Stone, Barton Warren, Sr., died Sat. morning at 7, Nov. 9, 1844, at the residence
of Capt. Samuel A. Bowen in Hannibal, Missouri, at the age of
71 years, 10 months, 16 days, an elder in the Church of Christ
and senior editor of the Christian Messenger. A short time
before his death, he had gone with his wife and youngest son
to visit his children in Missouri. As he was returning home,
his last illness was induced by the inclement weather and he
suffered intense pain for many days. On Fraidy, Nov. 8, he was
visited by Elder Jacob Creath of Palmyra, Mo. and when asked
by him if he feared to die, he replied, "no, my religion has
not been one of excitement, nor am I now excited, I know in
whom I have believed." His daughters Amanda, Polly and
Catharine were at his bedside along with his son and daughter
from Jacksonville, Ill. Sons Barton and Samuel are mentioned.
