Now I Paul myself beseech you by per mansuetudinem et modestiam Christi the meekness and gentleness of Christ, qui in facie quidem humilis inter vos who in presence am base among you, but absens autem confido in vobis being absent am bold toward you: 10:2 rogo autem ne praesens audeam per 2. But I beseech you, that I may not eam confidentiam qua existimo audere in be bold when I am present with that quosdam qui arbitrantur nos tamquam confidence, wherewith I think to be secundum carnem ambulemus bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh. 10:3 in carne enim ambulantes non 3. For though we walk in the flesh, we secundum carnem militamus do not war after the flesh: 10:4 nam arma militiae nostrae non 4. (For the weapons of our warfare are carnalia sed potentia Deo ad not carnal, but mighty through God to destructionem munitionum consilia the pulling down of strong holds;) destruentes 10:5 et omnem altitudinem extollentem 5. Casting down imaginations, and se adversus scientiam Dei et in every high thing that exalteth itself captivitatem redigentes omnem against the knowledge of God, and intellectum in obsequium Christi bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 10:6 et in promptu habentes ulcisci 6. And having in a readiness to omnem inoboedientiam cum impleta fuerit revenge all disobedience, when your vestra oboedientia obedience is fulfilled. 10:7 quae secundum faciem sunt videte 7. Do ye look on things after the si quis confidit sibi Christi se esse outward appearance? If any man trust to hoc cogitet iterum apud se quia sicut himself that he is Christ's, let him of ipse Christi est ita et nos himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's. 10:8 nam et si amplius aliquid 8. For though I should boast somewhat gloriatus fuero de potestate nostra more of our authority, which the Lord quam dedit Dominus in aedificationem et hath given us for edification, and not non in destructionem vestram non for your destruction, I should not be erubescam ashamed: 10:9 ut autem non existimer tamquam 9. That I may not seem as if I would terrere vos per Epistolas terrify you by letters. 10:10 quoniam quidem Epistolae 10. For his letters, say they, are inquiunt graves sunt et fortes weighty and powerful; but his bodily praesentia autem corporis infirma et presence is weak, and his speech sermo contemptibilis contemptible. 10:11 hoc cogitet qui eiusmodi est 11. Let such an one think this, that, quia quales sumus verbo per Epistolas such as we are in word by letters when absentes tales et praesentes in facto we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present. 10:12 non enim audemus inserere aut 12. For we dare not make ourselves of conparare nos quibusdam qui se ipsos the number, or compare ourselves with commendant sed ipsi in nobis nosmet some that commend themselves: but they ipsos metientes et conparantes nosmet measuring themselves by themselves, and ipsos nobis comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. 10:13 nos autem non in inmensum 13. But we will not boast of things gloriabimur sed secundum mensuram without our measure, but according to regulae quam mensus est nobis Deus the measure of the rule which God hath mensuram pertingendi usque ad vos distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you. 10:14 non enim quasi non pertingentes 14. For we stretch not ourselves ad vos superextendimus nos usque ad vos beyond our measure, as though we enim pervenimus in evangelio Christi reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ: 10:15 non in inmensum gloriantes in 15. Not boasting of things without our alienis laboribus spem autem habentes measure, that is, of other men's crescentis fidei vestrae in vobis labours; but having hope, when your magnificari secundum regulam nostram in faith is increased, that we shall be abundantiam enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly, 10:16 etiam in illa quae ultra vos 16. To preach the gospel in the sunt evangelizare non in aliena regula regions beyond you, and not to boast in in his quae praeparata sunt gloriari another man's line of things made ready to our hand. 10:17 qui autem gloriatur in Domino 17. But he that glorieth, let him glorietur glory in the Lord. 10:18 non enim qui se ipsum commendat 18.
