10:1 ipse autem ego Paulus obsecro vos 1. Now I Paul myself beseech you by
per mansuetudinem et modestiam Christi the meekness and gentleness of Christ,
qui in facie quidem humilis inter vos who in presence am base among you, but
absens autem confido in vobis being absent am bold toward you:

10:2 rogo autem ne praesens audeam per 2. But I beseech you, that I may not
eam confidentiam qua existimo audere in be bold when I am present with that
quosdam qui arbitrantur nos tamquam confidence, wherewith I think to be
secundum carnem ambulemus bold against some, which think of us as
if we walked according to the flesh.

10:3 in carne enim ambulantes non 3. For though we walk in the flesh, we
secundum carnem militamus do not war after the flesh:

10:4 nam arma militiae nostrae non 4. (For the weapons of our warfare are
carnalia sed potentia Deo ad not carnal, but mighty through God to
destructionem munitionum consilia the pulling down of strong holds;)
destruentes

10:5 et omnem altitudinem extollentem 5. Casting down imaginations, and
se adversus scientiam Dei et in every high thing that exalteth itself
captivitatem redigentes omnem against the knowledge of God, and
intellectum in obsequium Christi bringing into captivity every thought
                                             to the obedience of Christ;

10:6 et in promptu habentes ulcisci 6. And having in a readiness to
omnem inoboedientiam cum impleta fuerit revenge all disobedience, when your
vestra oboedientia obedience is fulfilled.

10:7 quae secundum faciem sunt videte 7. Do ye look on things after the
si quis confidit sibi Christi se esse outward appearance? If any man trust to
hoc cogitet iterum apud se quia sicut himself that he is Christ's, let him of
ipse Christi est ita et nos himself think this again, that, as he
is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.

10:8 nam et si amplius aliquid 8. For though I should boast somewhat
gloriatus fuero de potestate nostra more of our authority, which the Lord
quam dedit Dominus in aedificationem et hath given us for edification, and not
non in destructionem vestram non for your destruction, I should not be
erubescam ashamed:

10:9 ut autem non existimer tamquam 9. That I may not seem as if I would
terrere vos per Epistolas terrify you by letters.

10:10 quoniam quidem Epistolae 10. For his letters, say they, are
inquiunt graves sunt et fortes weighty and powerful; but his bodily
praesentia autem corporis infirma et presence is weak, and his speech
sermo contemptibilis contemptible.

10:11 hoc cogitet qui eiusmodi est 11. Let such an one think this, that,
quia quales sumus verbo per Epistolas such as we are in word by letters when
absentes tales et praesentes in facto we are absent, such will we be also in
                                             deed when we are present.

10:12 non enim audemus inserere aut 12. For we dare not make ourselves of
conparare nos quibusdam qui se ipsos the number, or compare ourselves with
commendant sed ipsi in nobis nosmet some that commend themselves: but they
ipsos metientes et conparantes nosmet measuring themselves by themselves, and
ipsos nobis comparing themselves among themselves,
                                             are not wise.

10:13 nos autem non in inmensum 13. But we will not boast of things
gloriabimur sed secundum mensuram without our measure, but according to
regulae quam mensus est nobis Deus the measure of the rule which God hath
mensuram pertingendi usque ad vos distributed to us, a measure to reach
                                             even unto you.

10:14 non enim quasi non pertingentes 14. For we stretch not ourselves
ad vos superextendimus nos usque ad vos beyond our measure, as though we
enim pervenimus in evangelio Christi reached not unto you: for we are come
as far as to you also in preaching the
                                             gospel of Christ:

10:15 non in inmensum gloriantes in 15. Not boasting of things without our
alienis laboribus spem autem habentes measure, that is, of other men's
crescentis fidei vestrae in vobis labours; but having hope, when your
magnificari secundum regulam nostram in faith is increased, that we shall be
abundantiam enlarged by you according to our rule
                                             abundantly,

10:16 etiam in illa quae ultra vos 16. To preach the gospel in the
sunt evangelizare non in aliena regula regions beyond you, and not to boast in
in his quae praeparata sunt gloriari another man's line of things made ready
                                             to our hand.

10:17 qui autem gloriatur in Domino 17. But he that glorieth, let him
glorietur glory in the Lord.

10:18 non enim qui se ipsum commendat 18. For not he that commendeth himself
ille probatus est sed quem Dominus is approved, but whom the Lord
commendat commendeth.
