8:1 notam autem facimus vobis fratres 1. Moreover, brethren, we do you to
gratiam Dei quae data est in ecclesiis wit of the grace of God bestowed on the
Macedoniae                                   churches of Macedonia;

8:2 quod in multo experimento 2. How that in a great trial of
tribulationis abundantia gaudii ipsorum affliction the abundance of their joy
et altissima paupertas eorum abundavit and their deep poverty abounded unto
in divitias simplicitatis eorum the riches of their liberality.

8:3 quia secundum virtutem testimonium 3. For to their power, I bear record,
illis reddo et supra virtutem yea, and beyond their power they were
voluntarii fuerunt                           willing of themselves;

8:4 cum multa exhortatione obsecrantes 4. Praying us with much intreaty that
nos gratiam et communicationem we would receive the gift, and take
ministerii quod fit in sanctos upon us the fellowship of the
                                             ministering to the saints.

8:5 et non sicut speravimus sed semet 5. And this they did, not as we hoped,
ipsos dederunt primum Domino deinde but first gave their own selves to the
nobis per voluntatem Dei Lord, and unto us by the will of God.

8:6 ita ut rogaremus Titum ut 6. Insomuch that we desired Titus,
quemadmodum coepit ita et perficiat in that as he had begun, so he would also
vos etiam gratiam istam finish in you the same grace also.

8:7 sed sicut in omnibus abundatis 7. Therefore, as ye abound in every
fide et sermone et scientia et omni thing, in faith, and utterance, and
sollicitudine et caritate vestra in nos knowledge, and in all diligence, and in
ut et in hac gratia abundetis your love to us, see that ye abound in
                                             this grace also.

8:8 non quasi imperans dico sed per 8. I speak not by commandment, but by
aliorum sollicitudinem etiam vestrae occasion of the forwardness of others,
caritatis ingenitum bonum conprobans and to prove the sincerity of your love.

8:9 scitis enim gratiam Domini nostri 9. For ye know the grace of our Lord
Iesu Christi quoniam propter vos egenus Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich,
factus est cum esset dives ut illius yet for your sakes he became poor, that
inopia vos divites essetis ye through his poverty might be rich.

8:10 et consilium in hoc do hoc enim 10. And herein I give my advice: for
vobis utile est qui non solum facere this is expedient for you, who have
sed et velle coepistis ab anno priore begun before, not only to do, but also
to be forward a year ago.

8:11 nunc vero et facto perficite ut 11. Now therefore perform the doing of
quemadmodum promptus est animus it; that as there was a readiness to
voluntatis ita sit et perficiendi ex eo will, so there may be a performance
quod habetis also out of that which ye have.

8:12 si enim voluntas prompta est 12. For if there be first a willing
secundum id quod habet accepta est non mind, it is accepted according to that
secundum quod non habet a man hath, and not according to that
                                             he hath not.

8:13 non enim ut aliis sit remissio 13. For I mean not that other men be
vobis autem tribulatio sed ex eased, and ye burdened:
aequalitate

8:14 in praesenti tempore vestra 14. But by an equality, that now at
abundantia illorum inopiam suppleat ut this time your abundance may be a
et illorum abundantia vestrae inopiae supply for their want, that their
sit supplementum ut fiat aequalitas abundance also may be a supply for your
sicut scriptum est want: that there may be equality:

8:15 qui multum non abundavit et qui 15. As it is written, He that had
modicum non minoravit gathered much had nothing over; and he
that had gathered little had no lack.

8:16 gratias autem Deo qui dedit 16. But thanks be to God, which put
eandem sollicitudinem pro vobis in the same earnest care into the heart of
corde Titi Titus for you.

8:17 quoniam exhortationem quidem 17. For indeed he accepted the
suscepit sed cum sollicitior esset sua exhortation; but being more forward, of
voluntate profectus est ad vos his own accord he went unto you.

8:18 misimus etiam cum illo fratrem 18. And we have sent with him the
cuius laus est in evangelio per omnes brother, whose praise is in the gospel
ecclesias                                    throughout all the churches;

8:19 non solum autem sed et ordinatus 19. And not that only, but who was
ab ecclesiis comes peregrinationis also chosen of the churches to travel
nostrae in hac gratia quae ministratur with us with this grace, which is
a nobis ad Domini gloriam et destinatam administered by us to the glory of the
voluntatem nostram same Lord, and declaration of your
                                             ready mind:

8:20 devitantes hoc ne quis nos 20. Avoiding this, that no man should
vituperet in hac plenitudine quae blame us in this abundance which is
ministratur a nobis administered by us:

8:21 providemus enim bona non solum 21. Providing for honest things, not
coram Deo sed etiam coram hominibus only in the sight of the Lord, but also
                                             in the sight of men.

8:22 misimus autem cum illis et 22. And we have sent with them our
fratrem nostrum quem probavimus in brother, whom we have oftentimes proved
multis saepe sollicitum esse nunc autem diligent in many things, but now much
multo sollicitiorem confidentia multa more diligent, upon the great
in vos confidence which I have in you.

8:23 sive pro Tito qui est socius meus 23. Whether any do enquire of Titus,
et in vos adiutor sive fratres nostri he is my partner and fellowhelper
apostoli ecclesiarum gloriae Christi concerning you: or our brethren be
enquired of, they are the messengers of
the churches, and the glory of Christ.

8:24 ostensionem ergo quae est 24. Wherefore shew ye to them, and
caritatis vestrae et nostrae gloriae before the churches, the proof of your
pro vobis in illos ostendite in faciem love, and of our boasting on your
ecclesiarum behalf.
