12:1 si gloriari oportet non expedit 1. It is not expedient for me
quidem veniam autem ad visiones et doubtless to glory. I will come to
revelationes Domini visions and revelations of the Lord.

12:2 scio hominem in Christo ante 2. I knew a man in Christ above
annos quattuordecim sive in corpore fourteen years ago, (whether in the
nescio sive extra corpus nescio Deus body, I cannot tell; or whether out of
scit raptum eiusmodi usque ad tertium the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
caelum such an one caught up to the third
                                             heaven.

12:3 et scio huiusmodi hominem sive in 3. And I knew such a man, (whether in
corpore sive extra corpus nescio Deus the body, or out of the body, I cannot
scit tell: God knoweth;)

12:4 quoniam raptus est in paradisum 4. How that he was caught up into
et audivit arcana verba quae non licet paradise, and heard unspeakable words,
homini loqui which it is not lawful for a man to
                                             utter.

12:5 pro eiusmodi gloriabor pro me 5. Of such an one will I glory: yet of
autem nihil gloriabor nisi in myself I will not glory, but in mine
infirmitatibus meis infirmities.

12:6 nam et si voluero gloriari non 6. For though I would desire to glory,
ero insipiens veritatem enim dicam I shall not be a fool; for I will say
parco autem ne quis in me existimet the truth: but now I forbear, lest any
supra id quod videt me aut audit ex me man should think of me above that which
he seeth me to be, or that he heareth
                                             of me.

12:7 et ne magnitudo revelationum 7. And lest I should be exalted above
extollat me datus est mihi stimulus measure through the abundance of the
carnis meae angelus Satanae ut me revelations, there was given to me a
colaphizet thorn in the flesh, the messenger of
Satan to buffet me, lest I should be
                                             exalted above measure.

12:8 propter quod ter Dominum rogavi 8. For this thing I besought the Lord
ut discederet a me thrice, that it might depart from me.

12:9 et dixit mihi sufficit tibi 9. And he said unto me, My grace is
gratia mea nam virtus in infirmitate sufficient for thee: for my strength is
perficitur libenter igitur gloriabor in made perfect in weakness. Most gladly
infirmitatibus meis ut inhabitet in me therefore will I rather glory in my
virtus Christi infirmities, that the power of Christ
                                             may rest upon me.

12:10 propter quod placeo mihi in 10. Therefore I take pleasure in
infirmitatibus in contumeliis in infirmities, in reproaches, in
necessitatibus in persecutionibus in necessities, in persecutions, in
angustiis pro Christo cum enim infirmor distresses for Christ's sake: for when
tunc potens sum I am weak, then am I strong.

12:11 factus sum insipiens vos me 11. I am become a fool in glorying; ye
coegistis ego enim debui a vobis have compelled me: for I ought to have
commendari nihil enim minus fui ab his been commended of you: for in nothing
qui sunt supra modum apostoli tametsi am I behind the very chiefest apostles,
nihil sum though I be nothing.

12:12 signa tamen apostoli facta sunt 12. Truly the signs of an apostle were
super vos in omni patientia signis et wrought among you in all patience, in
prodigiis et virtutibus signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

12:13 quid est enim quod minus 13. For what is it wherein ye were
habuistis prae ceteris ecclesiis nisi inferior to other churches, except it
quod ego ipse non gravavi vos donate be that I myself was not burdensome to
mihi hanc iniuriam you? forgive me this wrong.

12:14 ecce tertio hoc paratus sum 14. Behold, the third time I am ready
venire ad vos et non ero gravis vobis to come to you; and I will not be
non enim quaero quae vestra sunt sed burdensome to you: for I seek not
vos nec enim debent filii parentibus your's but you: for the children ought
thesaurizare sed parentes filiis not to lay up for the parents, but the
                                             parents for the children.

12:15 ego autem libentissime inpendam 15. And I will very gladly spend and
et superinpendar ipse pro animabus be spent for you; though the more
vestris licet plus vos diligens minus abundantly I love you, the less I be
diligar loved.

12:16 sed esto ego vos non gravavi sed 16. But be it so, I did not burden
cum essem astutus dolo vos cepi you: nevertheless, being crafty, I
                                             caught you with guile.

12:17 numquid per aliquem eorum quos 17. Did I make a gain of you by any of
misi ad vos circumveni vos them whom I sent unto you?

12:18 rogavi Titum et misi cum illo 18. I desired Titus, and with him I
fratrem numquid Titus vos circumvenit sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain
nonne eodem spiritu ambulavimus nonne of you? walked we not in the same
hisdem vestigiis spirit? walked we not in the same steps?

12:19 olim putatis quod excusemus nos 19. Again, think ye that we excuse
apud vos coram Deo in Christo loquimur ourselves unto you? we speak before God
omnia autem carissimi propter vestram in Christ: but we do all things, dearly
aedificationem beloved, for your edifying.

12:20 timeo enim ne forte cum venero 20. For I fear, lest, when I come, I
non quales volo inveniam vos et ego shall not find you such as I would, and
inveniar a vobis qualem non vultis ne that I shall be found unto you such as
forte contentiones aemulationes ye would not: lest there be debates,
animositates dissensiones detractiones envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings,
susurrationes inflationes seditiones whisperings, swellings, tumults:
sint inter vos

12:21 ne iterum cum venero humiliet me 21. And lest, when I come again, my
Deus apud vos et lugeam multos ex his God will humble me among you, and that
qui ante peccaverunt et non egerunt I shall bewail many which have sinned
paenitentiam super inmunditia et already, and have not repented of the
fornicatione et inpudicitia quam uncleanness and fornication and
gesserunt lasciviousness which they have
                                             committed.
