3:1  incipimus iterum nosmet ipsos           1.  Do we begin again to commend  
commendare aut numquid egemus sicut          ourselves? or need we, as some others,  
quidam commendaticiis epistulis ad vos       epistles of commendation to you, or  
aut ex vobis                                 letters of commendation from you?
                                             
3:2  Epistola nostra vos estis scripta       2.  Ye are our epistle written in our  
in cordibus nostris quae scitur et           hearts, known and read of all men:
legitur ab omnibus hominibus                 

3:3  manifestati quoniam Epistola estis      3.  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly  
Christi ministrata a nobis et scripta        declared to be the epistle of Christ  
non atramento sed Spiritu Dei vivi non       ministered by us, written not with ink,  
in tabulis lapideis sed in tabulis           but with the Spirit of the living God;  
cordis carnalibus                            not in tables of stone, but in fleshy  
                                             tables of the heart.
                                             
3:4  fiduciam autem talem habemus per        4.  And such trust have we through  
Christum ad Deum                             Christ to God-ward:
                                             
3:5  non quod sufficientes simus             5.  Not that we are sufficient of  
cogitare aliquid a nobis quasi ex nobis      ourselves to think any thing as of  
sed sufficientia nostra ex Deo est           ourselves; but our sufficiency is of  
                                             God;
                                             
3:6  qui et idoneos nos fecit ministros      6.  Who also hath made us able  
novi testamenti non litterae sed             ministers of the new testament; not of  
Spiritus littera enim occidit Spiritus       the letter, but of the spirit: for the  
autem vivificat                              letter killeth, but the spirit giveth  
                                             life.
                                             
3:7  quod si ministratio mortis              7.  But if the ministration of death,  
litteris deformata in lapidibus fuit in      written and engraven in stones, was  
gloria ita ut non possent intendere          glorious, so that the children of  
filii Israhel in faciem Mosi propter         Israel could not stedfastly behold the  
gloriam vultus eius quae evacuatur           face of Moses for the glory of his  
                                             countenance; which glory was to be done  
                                             away:
                                             
3:8  quomodo non magis ministratio           8.  How shall not the ministration of  
Spiritus erit in gloria                      the spirit be rather glorious?
                                             
3:9  nam si ministratio damnationis          9.  For if the ministration of  
gloria est multo magis abundat               condemnation be glory, much more doth  
ministerium iustitiae in gloria              the ministration of righteousness  
                                             exceed in glory.
                                             
3:10  nam nec glorificatum est quod          10.  For even that which was made  
claruit in hac parte propter                 glorious had no glory in this respect,  
excellentem gloriam                          by reason of the glory that excelleth.
                                             
3:11  si enim quod evacuatur per             11.  For if that which is done away was  
gloriam est multo magis quod manet in        glorious, much more that which  
gloria est                                   remaineth is glorious.
                                             
3:12  habentes igitur talem spem multa       12.  Seeing then that we have such  
fiducia utimur                               hope, we use great plainness of speech:
                                             
3:13  et non sicut Moses ponebat             13.  And not as Moses, which put a vail  
velamen super faciem suam ut non             over his face, that the children of  
intenderent filii Israhel in faciem          Israel could not stedfastly look to the  
eius quod evacuatur                          end of that which is abolished:
                                             
3:14  sed obtusi sunt sensus eorum           14.  But their minds were blinded: for  
usque in hodiernum enim diem id ipsum        until this day remaineth the same vail  
velamen in lectione veteris testamenti       untaken away in the reading of the old  
manet non revelatum quoniam in Christo       testament; which vail is done away in  
evacuatur                                    Christ.
                                             
3:15  sed usque in hodiernum diem cum        15.  But even unto this day, when Moses  
legitur Moses velamen est positum super      is read, the vail is upon their heart.

3:16  cum autem conversus fuerit ad          16.  Nevertheless when it shall turn to  
Deum aufertur velamen                        the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
                                             
3:17  Dominus autem Spiritus est ubi         17.  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and  
autem Spiritus Domini ibi libertas           where the Spirit of the Lord is, there  
                                             is liberty.
                                             
3:18  nos vero omnes revelata facie          18.  But we all, with open face  
gloriam Domini speculantes in eandem         beholding as in a glass the glory of  
imaginem transformamur a claritate in        the Lord, are changed into the same  
claritatem tamquam a Domini Spiritu          image from glory to glory, even as by  
                                             the Spirit of the Lord.
