7:1 has igitur habentes promissiones 1. Having therefore these promises,
carissimi mundemus nos ab omni dearly beloved, let us cleanse
inquinamento carnis et spiritus ourselves from all filthiness of the
perficientes sanctificationem in timore flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness
Dei in the fear of God.

7:2 capite nos neminem laesimus 2. Receive us; we have wronged no man,
neminem corrupimus neminem circumvenimus we have corrupted no man, we have
                                             defrauded no man.

7:3 non ad condemnationem dico 3. I speak not this to condemn you:
praedixi enim quod in cordibus nostris for I have said before, that ye are in
estis ad conmoriendum et ad convivendum our hearts to die and live with you.

7:4 multa mihi fiducia est apud vos 4. Great is my boldness of speech
multa mihi gloriatio pro vobis repletus toward you, great is my glorying of
sum consolatione superabundo gaudio in you: I am filled with comfort, I am
omni tribulatione nostra exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

7:5 nam et cum venissemus Macedoniam 5. For, when we were come into
nullam requiem habuit caro nostra sed Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but
omnem tribulationem passi foris pugnae we were troubled on every side; without
intus timores were fightings, within were fears.

7:6 sed qui consolatur humiles 6. Nevertheless God, that comforteth
consolatus est nos Deus in adventu Titi those that are cast down, comforted us
                                             by the coming of Titus;

7:7 non solum autem in adventu eius 7. And not by his coming only, but by
sed etiam in solacio quo consolatus est the consolation wherewith he was
in vobis referens nobis vestrum comforted in you, when he told us your
desiderium vestrum fletum vestram earnest desire, your mourning, your
aemulationem pro me ita ut magis fervent mind toward me; so that I
gauderem rejoiced the more.

7:8 quoniam et si contristavi vos in 8. For though I made you sorry with a
Epistola non me paenitet et si letter, I do not repent, though I did
paeniteret videns quod Epistola illa et repent: for I perceive that the same
si ad horam vos contristavit epistle hath made you sorry, though it
                                             were but for a season.

7:9 nunc gaudeo non quia contristati 9. Now I rejoice, not that ye were
estis sed quia contristati estis ad made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to
paenitentiam contristati enim estis repentance: for ye were made sorry
secundum Deum ut in nullo detrimentum after a godly manner, that ye might
patiamini ex nobis receive damage by us in nothing.

7:10 quae enim secundum Deum tristitia 10. For godly sorrow worketh
est paenitentiam in salutem stabilem repentance to salvation not to be
operatur saeculi autem tristitia mortem repented of: but the sorrow of the
operatur world worketh death.

7:11 ecce enim hoc ipsum secundum Deum 11. For behold this selfsame thing,
contristari vos quantam in vobis that ye sorrowed after a godly sort,
operatur sollicitudinem sed defensionem what carefulness it wrought in you,
sed indignationem sed timorem sed yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea,
desiderium sed aemulationem sed what indignation, yea, what fear, yea,
vindictam in omnibus exhibuistis vos what vehement desire, yea, what zeal,
incontaminatos esse negotio yea, what revenge! In all things ye
have approved yourselves to be clear in
                                             this matter.

7:12 igitur et si scripsi vobis non 12. Wherefore, though I wrote unto
propter eum qui fecit iniuriam nec you, I did it not for his cause that
propter eum qui passus est sed ad had done the wrong, nor for his cause
manifestandam sollicitudinem nostram that suffered wrong, but that our care
quam pro vobis habemus ad vos coram Deo for you in the sight of God might
                                             appear unto you.

7:13 ideo consolati sumus in 13. Therefore we were comforted in
consolatione autem nostra abundantius your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the
magis gavisi sumus super gaudium Titi more joyed we for the joy of Titus,
quia refectus est spiritus eius ab because his spirit was refreshed by you
omnibus vobis all.

7:14 et si quid apud illum de vobis 14. For if I have boasted any thing to
gloriatus sum non sum confusus sed him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we
sicut omnia vobis in veritate locuti spake all things to you in truth, even
sumus ita et gloriatio nostra quae fuit so our boasting, which I made before
ad Titum veritas facta est Titus, is found a truth.

7:15 et viscera eius abundantius in 15. And his inward affection is more
vos sunt reminiscentis omnium vestrum abundant toward you, whilst he
oboedientiam quomodo cum timore et remembereth the obedience of you all,
tremore excepistis eum how with fear and trembling ye received
                                             him.

7:16 gaudeo quod in omnibus confido in 16. I rejoice therefore that I have
vobis confidence in you in all things.
