3:1 unde fratres sancti vocationis 1. Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers
caelestis participes considerate of the heavenly calling, consider the
apostolum et pontificem confessionis Apostle and High Priest of our
nostrae Iesum                                profession, Christ Jesus;

3:2 qui fidelis est ei qui fecit illum 2. Who was faithful to him that
sicut et Moses in omni domo illius appointed him, as also Moses was
                                             faithful in all his house.

3:3 amplioris enim gloriae iste prae 3. For this man was counted worthy of
Mose dignus habitus est quanto more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he
ampliorem honorem habet domus qui who hath builded the house hath more
fabricavit illam honour than the house.

3:4 omnis namque domus fabricatur ab 4. For every house is builded by some
aliquo qui autem omnia creavit Deus man; but he that built all things is
                                             God.

3:5 et Moses quidem fidelis erat in 5. And Moses verily was faithful in
tota domo eius tamquam famulus in all his house, as a servant, for a
testimonium eorum quae dicenda erant testimony of those things which were to
                                             be spoken after;

3:6 Christus vero tamquam filius in 6. But Christ as a son over his own
domo sua quae domus sumus nos si house; whose house are we, if we hold
fiduciam et gloriam spei usque ad finem fast the confidence and the rejoicing
firmam retineamus of the hope firm unto the end.

3:7 quapropter sicut dicit Spiritus 7. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith,
Sanctus hodie si vocem eius audieritis To day if ye will hear his voice,

3:8 nolite obdurare corda vestra sicut 8. Harden not your hearts, as in the
in exacerbatione secundum diem provocation, in the day of temptation
temptationis in deserto in the wilderness:

3:9 ubi temptaverunt me patres vestri 9. When your fathers tempted me,
probaverunt et viderunt opera mea proved me, and saw my works forty years.

3:10 quadraginta annos propter quod 10. Wherefore I was grieved with that
infensus fui generationi huic et dixi generation, and said, They do alway err
semper errant corde ipsi autem non in their heart; and they have not known
cognoverunt vias meas my ways.

3:11 sicut iuravi in ira mea si 11. So I sware in my wrath, They shall
introibunt in requiem meam not enter into my rest.)

3:12 videte fratres ne forte sit in 12. Take heed, brethren, lest there be
aliquo vestrum cor malum incredulitatis in any of you an evil heart of
discedendi a Deo vivo unbelief, in departing from the living
                                             God.

3:13 sed adhortamini vosmet ipsos per 13. But exhort one another daily,
singulos dies donec hodie cognominatur while it is called To day; lest any of
ut non obduretur quis ex vobis fallacia you be hardened through the
peccati deceitfulness of sin.

3:14 participes enim Christi effecti 14. For we are made partakers of
sumus si tamen initium substantiae Christ, if we hold the beginning of our
usque ad finem firmum retineamus             confidence stedfast unto the end;

3:15 dum dicitur hodie si vocem eius 15. While it is said, To day if ye
audieritis nolite obdurare corda vestra will hear his voice, harden not your
quemadmodum in illa exacerbatione hearts, as in the provocation.

3:16 quidam enim audientes 16. For some, when they had heard, did
exacerbaverunt sed non universi qui provoke: howbeit not all that came out
profecti sunt ab Aegypto per Mosen of Egypt by Moses.

3:17 quibus autem infensus est 17. But with whom was he grieved forty
quadraginta annos nonne illis qui years? was it not with them that had
peccaverunt quorum cadavera prostrata sinned, whose carcases fell in the
sunt in deserto wilderness?

3:18 quibus autem iuravit non introire 18. And to whom sware he that they
in requiem ipsius nisi illis qui should not enter into his rest, but to
increduli fuerunt them that believed not?

3:19 et videmus quia non potuerunt 19. So we see that they could not
introire propter incredulitatem enter in because of unbelief.
