5:1 omnis namque pontifex ex hominibus 1. For every high priest taken from
adsumptus pro hominibus constituitur in among men is ordained for men in things
his quae sunt ad Deum ut offerat dona pertaining to God, that he may offer
et sacrificia pro peccatis both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

5:2 qui condolere possit his qui 2. Who can have compassion on the
ignorant et errant quoniam et ipse ignorant, and on them that are out of
circumdatus est infirmitate the way; for that he himself also is
                                             compassed with infirmity.

5:3 et propter eam debet quemadmodum 3. And by reason hereof he ought, as
et pro populo ita etiam pro semet ipso for the people, so also for himself, to
offerre pro peccatis offer for sins.

5:4 nec quisquam sumit sibi honorem 4. And no man taketh this honour unto
sed qui vocatur a Deo tamquam Aaron himself, but he that is called of God,
                                             as was Aaron.

5:5 sic et Christus non semet ipsum 5. So also Christ glorified not
clarificavit ut pontifex fieret sed qui himself to be made an high priest; but
locutus est ad eum Filius meus es tu he that said unto him, Thou art my Son,
ego hodie genui te to day have I begotten thee.

5:6 quemadmodum et in alio dicit tu es 6. As he saith also in another place,
sacerdos in aeternum secundum ordinem Thou art a priest for ever after the
Melchisedech                                 order of Melchisedec.

5:7 qui in diebus carnis suae preces 7. Who in the days of his flesh, when
supplicationesque ad eum qui possit he had offered up prayers and
salvum illum a morte facere cum clamore supplications with strong crying and
valido et lacrimis offerens et tears unto him that was able to save
exauditus pro sua reverentia him from death, and was heard in that
                                             he feared;

5:8 et quidem cum esset Filius didicit 8. Though he were a Son, yet learned
ex his quae passus est oboedientiam he obedience by the things which he
                                             suffered;

5:9 et consummatus factus est omnibus 9. And being made perfect, he became
obtemperantibus sibi causa salutis the author of eternal salvation unto
aeternae                                     all them that obey him;

5:10 appellatus a Deo pontifex iuxta 10. Called of God an high priest after
ordinem Melchisedech the order of Melchisedec.

5:11 de quo grandis nobis sermo et 11. Of whom we have many things to
ininterpretabilis ad dicendum quoniam say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye
inbecilles facti estis ad audiendum are dull of hearing.

5:12 etenim cum deberetis magistri 12. For when for the time ye ought to
esse propter tempus rursum indigetis ut be teachers, ye have need that one
vos doceamini quae sint elementa teach you again which be the first
exordii sermonum Dei et facti estis principles of the oracles of God; and
quibus lacte opus sit non solido cibo are become such as have need of milk,
                                             and not of strong meat.

5:13 omnis enim qui lactis est 13. For every one that useth milk is
particeps expers est sermonis iustitiae unskilful in the word of righteousness:
parvulus enim est for he is a babe.

5:14 perfectorum autem est solidus 14. But strong meat belongeth to them
cibus eorum qui pro consuetudine that are of full age, even those who by
exercitatos habent sensus ad reason of use have their senses
discretionem boni ac mali exercised to discern both good and evil.
