1:1 Paulus vocatus apostolus Christi 1. Paul called to be an apostle of
Iesu per voluntatem Dei et Sosthenes Jesus Christ through the will of God,
frater                                       and Sosthenes our brother,
1:2 ecclesiae Dei quae est Corinthi 2. Unto the church of God which is at
sanctificatis in Christo Iesu vocatis Corinth, to them that are sanctified in
sanctis cum omnibus qui invocant nomen Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with
Domini nostri Iesu Christi in omni loco all that in every place call upon the
ipsorum et nostro name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both
                                             their's and our's:
1:3 gratia vobis et pax a Deo Patre 3. Grace be unto you, and peace, from
nostro et Domino Iesu Christo God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus
                                             Christ.
1:4 gratias ago Deo meo semper pro 4. I thank my God always on your
vobis in gratia Dei quae data est vobis behalf, for the grace of God which is
in Christo Iesu                              given you by Jesus Christ;
1:5 quia in omnibus divites facti 5. That in every thing ye are enriched
estis in illo in omni verbo et in omni by him, in all utterance, and in all
scientia                                     knowledge;
1:6 sicut testimonium Christi 6. Even as the testimony of Christ was
confirmatum est in vobis confirmed in you:
1:7  ita ut nihil vobis desit in ulla        7.  So that ye come behind in no gift;
gratia expectantibus revelationem waiting for the coming of our Lord
Domini nostri Iesu Christi Jesus Christ:
1:8 qui et confirmabit vos usque ad 8. Who shall also confirm you unto the
finem sine crimine in die adventus end, that ye may be blameless in the
Domini nostri Iesu Christi day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
1:9 fidelis Deus per quem vocati estis 9. God is faithful, by whom ye were
in societatem Filii eius Iesu Christi called unto the fellowship of his Son
Domini nostri Jesus Christ our Lord.
1:10 obsecro autem vos fratres per 10. Now I beseech you, brethren, by
nomen Domini nostri Iesu Christi ut id the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that
ipsum dicatis omnes et non sint in ye all speak the same thing, and that
vobis scismata sitis autem perfecti in there be no divisions among you; but
eodem sensu et in eadem sententia that ye be perfectly joined together in
                                             the same mind and in the same judgment.
1:11 significatum est enim mihi de 11. For it hath been declared unto me
vobis fratres mei ab his qui sunt of you, my brethren, by them which are
Chloes quia contentiones inter vos sunt of the house of Chloe, that there are
                                             contentions among you.
1:12 hoc autem dico quod unusquisque 12. Now this I say, that every one of
vestrum dicit ego quidem sum Pauli ego you saith, I am of Paul; and I of
autem Apollo ego vero Cephae ego autem Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of
Christi                                      Christ.
1:13 divisus est Christus numquid 13. Is Christ divided? was Paul
Paulus crucifixus est pro vobis aut in crucified for you? or were ye baptized
nomine Pauli baptizati estis in the name of Paul?
1:14 gratias ago Deo quod neminem 14. I thank God that I baptized none
vestrum baptizavi nisi Crispum et Gaium      of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
1:15 ne quis dicat quod in nomine meo 15. Lest any should say that I had
baptizati sitis baptized in mine own name.
1:16 baptizavi autem et Stephanae 16. And I baptized also the household
domum ceterum nescio si quem alium of Stephanas: besides, I know not
baptizaverim whether I baptized any other.
1:17 non enim misit me Christus 17. For Christ sent me not to baptize,
baptizare sed evangelizare non in but to preach the gospel: not with
sapientia verbi ut non evacuetur crux wisdom of words, lest the cross of
Christi Christ should be made of none effect.
1:18 verbum enim crucis pereuntibus 18. For the preaching of the cross is
quidem stultitia est his autem qui to them that perish foolishness; but
salvi fiunt id est nobis virtus Dei est unto us which are saved it is the power
                                             of God.
1:19 scriptum est enim perdam 19. For it is written, I will destroy
sapientiam sapientium et prudentiam the wisdom of the wise, and will bring
prudentium reprobabo to nothing the understanding of the
                                             prudent.
1:20 ubi sapiens ubi scriba ubi 20. Where is the wise? where is the
conquisitor huius saeculi nonne stultam scribe? where is the disputer of this
fecit Deus sapientiam huius mundi world? hath not God made foolish the
                                             wisdom of this world?
1:21 nam quia in Dei sapientia non 21. For after that in the wisdom of
cognovit mundus per sapientiam Deum God the world by wisdom knew not God,
placuit Deo per stultitiam it pleased God by the foolishness of
praedicationis salvos facere credentes preaching to save them that believe.
1:22 quoniam et Iudaei signa petunt et 22. For the Jews require a sign, and
Graeci sapientiam quaerunt the Greeks seek after wisdom:
1:23 nos autem praedicamus Christum 23. But we preach Christ crucified,
crucifixum Iudaeis quidem scandalum unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and
gentibus autem stultitiam                    unto the Greeks foolishness;
1:24 ipsis autem vocatis Iudaeis atque 24. But unto them which are called,
Graecis Christum Dei virtutem et Dei both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power
sapientiam of God, and the wisdom of God.
1:25 quia quod stultum est Dei 25. Because the foolishness of God is
sapientius est hominibus et quod wiser than men; and the weakness of God
infirmum est Dei fortius est hominibus is stronger than men.
1:26 videte enim vocationem vestram 26. For ye see your calling, brethren,
fratres quia non multi sapientes how that not many wise men after the
secundum carnem non multi potentes non flesh, not many mighty, not many noble,
multi nobiles                                are called:
1:27 sed quae stulta sunt mundi elegit 27. But God hath chosen the foolish
Deus ut confundat sapientes et infirma things of the world to confound the
mundi elegit Deus ut confundat fortia wise; and God hath chosen the weak
                                             things of the world to confound the
                                             things which are mighty;
1:28 et ignobilia mundi et 28. And base things of the world, and
contemptibilia elegit Deus et quae non things which are despised, hath God
sunt ut ea quae sunt destrueret chosen, yea, and things which are not,
                                             to bring to nought things that are:
1:29 ut non glorietur omnis caro in 29. That no flesh should glory in his
conspectu eius                               presence.
1:30 ex ipso autem vos estis in 30. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus,
Christo Iesu qui factus est sapientia who of God is made unto us wisdom, and
nobis a Deo et iustitia et righteousness, and sanctification, and
sanctificatio et redemptio                   redemption:
1:31 ut quemadmodum scriptum est qui 31. That, according as it is written,
gloriatur in Domino glorietur He that glorieth, let him glory in the
                                             Lord.
