Am I not an apostle? am I not free? nonne Iesum Dominum nostrum vidi non have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? opus meum vos estis in Domino are not ye my work in the Lord? 9:2 si aliis non sum apostolus sed 2. If I be not an apostle unto others, tamen vobis sum nam signaculum yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal apostolatus mei vos estis in Domino of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord. 9:3 mea defensio apud eos qui me 3. Mine answer to them that do examine interrogant haec est me is this, 9:4 numquid non habemus potestatem 4. Have we not power to eat and to manducandi et bibendi drink? 9:5 numquid non habemus potestatem 5. Have we not power to lead about a sororem mulierem circumducendi sicut et sister, a wife, as well as other ceteri apostoli et fratres Domini et apostles, and as the brethren of the Cephas Lord, and Cephas? 9:6 aut solus ego et Barnabas non 6. Or I only and Barnabas, have not we habemus potestatem hoc operandi power to forbear working? 9:7 quis militat suis stipendiis 7. Who goeth a warfare any time at his umquam quis plantat vineam et fructum own charges? who planteth a vineyard, eius non edit quis pascit gregem et de and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or lacte gregis non manducat who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? 9:8 numquid secundum hominem haec dico 8. Say I these things as a man? or an et lex haec non dicit saith not the law the same also? 9:9 scriptum est enim in lege Mosi non 9. For it is written in the law of alligabis os bovi trituranti numquid de Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth bubus cura est Deo of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? 9:10 an propter nos utique dicit nam 10. Or saith he it altogether for our propter nos scripta sunt quoniam debet sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is in spe qui arat arare et qui triturat written: that he that ploweth should in spe fructus percipiendi plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. 9:11 si nos vobis spiritalia 11. If we have sown unto you spiritual seminavimus magnum est si nos carnalia things, is it a great thing if we shall vestra metamus reap your carnal things? 9:12 si alii potestatis vestrae 12. If others be partakers of this participes sunt non potius nos sed non power over you, are not we rather? usi sumus hac potestate sed omnia Nevertheless we have not used this sustinemus ne quod offendiculum demus power; but suffer all things, lest we evangelio Christi should hinder the gospel of Christ. 9:13 nescitis quoniam qui in sacrario 13. Do ye not know that they which operantur quae de sacrario sunt edunt minister about holy things live of the qui altario deserviunt cum altario things of the temple? and they which participantur wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 9:14 ita et Dominus ordinavit his qui 14. Even so hath the Lord ordained evangelium adnuntiant de evangelio that they which preach the gospel vivere should live of the gospel. 9:15 ego autem nullo horum usus sum 15. But I have used none of these non scripsi autem haec ut ita fiant in things: neither have I written these me bonum est enim mihi magis mori quam things, that it should be so done unto ut gloriam meam quis evacuet me: for it were better for me to die, than that any man should make my glorying void. 9:16 nam si evangelizavero non est 16. For though I preach the gospel, I mihi gloria necessitas enim mihi have nothing to glory of: for necessity incumbit vae enim mihi est si non is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, evangelizavero if I preach not the gospel! 9:17 si enim volens hoc ago mercedem 17. For if I do this thing willingly, habeo si autem invitus dispensatio mihi I have a reward: but if against my credita est will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. 9:18 quae est ergo merces mea ut 18. What is my reward then? Verily evangelium praedicans sine sumptu ponam that, when I preach the gospel, I may evangelium ut non abutar potestate mea make the gospel of Christ without in evangelio charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. 9:19 nam cum liber essem ex omnibus 19. For though I be free from all men, omnium me servum feci ut plures lucri yet have I made myself servant unto facerem all, that I might gain the more. 9:20 et factus sum Iudaeis tamquam 20. And unto the Jews I became as a Iudaeus ut Iudaeos lucrarer Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; 9:21 his qui sub lege sunt quasi sub 21. To them that are without law, as lege essem cum ipse non essem sub lege without law, (being not without law to ut eos qui sub lege erant lucri facerem God, but under the law to Christ,) that his qui sine lege erant tamquam sine I might gain them that are without law. lege essem cum sine lege Dei non essem sed in lege essem Christi ut lucri facerem eos qui sine lege erant 9:22 factus sum infirmis infirmus ut 22. To the weak became I as weak, that infirmos lucri facerem omnibus omnia I might gain the weak: I am made all factus sum ut omnes facerem salvos things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 9:23 omnia autem facio propter 23. And this I do for the gospel's evangelium ut particeps eius efficiar sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you. 9:24 nescitis quod hii qui in stadio 24. Know ye not that they which run in currunt omnes quidem currunt sed unus a race run all, but one receiveth the accipit bravium sic currite ut prize? So run, that ye may obtain. conprehendatis 9:25 omnis autem qui in agone 25. And every man that striveth for contendit ab omnibus se abstinet et the mastery is temperate in all things. illi quidem ut corruptibilem coronam Now they do it to obtain a corruptible accipiant nos autem incorruptam crown; but we an incorruptible. 9:26 ego igitur sic curro non quasi in 26. I therefore so run, not as incertum sic pugno non quasi aerem uncertainly; so fight I, not as one verberans that beateth the air: 9:27 sed castigo corpus meum et in 27.
