11:1  imitatores mei estote sicut et         1.  Be ye followers of me, even as I
ego Christi                                  also am of Christ.

11:2  laudo autem vos fratres quod           2.  Now I praise you, brethren, that ye
omnia mei memores estis et sicut             remember me in all things, and keep the
tradidi vobis praecepta mea tenetis          ordinances, as I delivered them to you.

11:3  volo autem vos scire quod omnis        3.  But I would have you know, that the
viri caput Christus est caput autem          head of every man is Christ; and the
mulieris vir caput vero Christi Deus         head of the woman is the man; and the
                                             head of Christ is God.

11:4  omnis vir orans aut prophetans         4.  Every man praying or prophesying,
velato capite deturpat caput suum            having his head covered, dishonoureth
                                             his head.

11:5  omnis autem mulier orans aut           5.  But every woman that prayeth or
prophetans non velato capite deturpat        prophesieth with her head uncovered
caput suum unum est enim atque si            dishonoureth her head: for that is even
decalvetur                                   all one as if she were shaven.

11:6  nam si non velatur mulier et           6.  For if the woman be not covered,
tondeatur si vero turpe est mulieri          let her also be shorn: but if it be a
tonderi aut decalvari velet caput suum       shame for a woman to be shorn or
                                             shaven, let her be covered.

11:7  vir quidem non debet velare caput      7.  For a man indeed ought not to cover
quoniam imago et gloria est Dei mulier       his head, forasmuch as he is the image
autem gloria viri est                        and glory of God: but the woman is the
                                             glory of the man.

11:8  non enim vir ex muliere est sed        8.  For the man is not of the woman:
mulier ex viro                               but the woman of the man.

11:9  etenim non est creatus vir             9.  Neither was the man created for the
propter mulierem sed mulier propter          woman; but the woman for the man.

11:10  ideo debet mulier potestatem          10.  For this cause ought the woman to
habere supra caput propter angelos           have power on her head because of the
                                             angels.

11:11  verumtamen neque vir sine             11.  Nevertheless neither is the man
muliere neque mulier sine viro in Domino     without the woman, neither the woman
                                             without the man, in the Lord.

11:12  nam sicut mulier de viro ita et       12.  For as the woman is of the man,
vir per mulierem omnia autem ex Deo          even so is the man also by the woman;
                                             but all things of God.

11:13  vos ipsi iudicate decet mulierem      13.  Judge in yourselves: is it comely
non velatam orare Deum                       that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

11:14  nec ipsa natura docet vos quod        14.  Doth not even nature itself teach
vir quidem si comam nutriat ignominia        you, that, if a man have long hair, it
est illi                                     is a shame unto him?

11:15  mulier vero si comam nutriat          15.  But if a woman have long hair, it
gloria est illi quoniam capilli pro          is a glory to her: for her hair is
velamine ei dati sunt                        given her for a covering.

11:16  si quis autem videtur                 16.  But if any man seem to be
contentiosus esse nos talem                  contentious, we have no such custom,
consuetudinem non habemus neque              neither the churches of God.

11:17  hoc autem praecipio non laudans       17.  Now in this that I declare unto
quod non in melius sed in deterius           you I praise you not, that ye come
convenitis                                   together not for the better, but for
                                             the worse.

11:18  primum quidem convenientibus          18.  For first of all, when ye come
vobis in ecclesia audio scissuras esse       together in the church, I hear that
et ex parte credo                            there be divisions among you; and I
                                             partly believe it.

11:19  nam oportet et hereses esse ut        19.  For there must be also heresies
et qui probati sunt manifesti fiant in       among you, that they which are approved
vobis                                        may be made manifest among you.

11:20  convenientibus ergo vobis in          20.  When ye come together therefore
unum iam non est dominicam cenam             into one place, this is not to eat the
manducare                                    Lord's supper.

11:21  unusquisque enim suam cenam           21.  For in eating every one taketh
praesumit ad manducandum et alius            before other his own supper: and one is
quidem esurit alius autem ebrius est         hungry, and another is drunken.

11:22  numquid domos non habetis ad          22.  What? have ye not houses to eat
manducandum et bibendum aut ecclesiam        and to drink in? or despise ye the
Dei contemnitis et confunditis eos qui       church of God, and shame them that have
non habent quid dicam vobis laudo vos        not? What shall I say to you? shall I
in hoc non laudo                             praise you in this? I praise you not.

11:23  ego enim accepi a Domino quod et      23.  For I have received of the Lord
tradidi vobis quoniam Dominus Iesus in       that which also I delivered unto you,
qua nocte tradebatur accepit panem           That the Lord Jesus the same night in
                                             which he was betrayed took bread:

11:24  et gratias agens fregit et dixit      24.  And when he had given thanks, he
hoc est corpus meum pro vobis hoc            brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is
facite in meam commemorationem               my body, which is broken for you: this
                                             do in remembrance of me.

11:25  similiter et calicem postquam         25.  After the same manner also he took
cenavit dicens hic calix novum               the cup, when he had supped, saying,
testamentum est in meo sanguine hoc          This cup is the new testament in my
facite quotienscumque bibetis in meam        blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink
commemorationem                              it, in remembrance of me.

11:26  quotienscumque enim manducabitis      26.  For as often as ye eat this bread,
panem hunc et calicem bibetis mortem         and drink this cup, ye do shew the
Domini adnuntiatis donec veniat              Lord's death till he come.

11:27  itaque quicumque manducaverit         27.  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this
panem vel biberit calicem Domini             bread, and drink this cup of the Lord,
indigne reus erit corporis et sanguinis      unworthily, shall be guilty of the body
Domini                                       and blood of the Lord.

11:28  probet autem se ipsum homo et         28.  But let a man examine himself, and
sic de pane illo edat et de calice bibat     so let him eat of that bread, and drink
                                             of that cup.

11:29  qui enim manducat et bibit            29.  For he that eateth and drinketh
indigne iudicium sibi manducat et bibit      unworthily, eateth and drinketh
non diiudicans corpus                        damnation to himself, not discerning
                                             the Lord's body.

11:30  ideo inter vos multi infirmes et      30.  For this cause many are weak and
inbecilles et dormiunt multi                 sickly among you, and many sleep.

11:31  quod si nosmet ipsos                  31.  For if we would judge ourselves,
diiudicaremus non utique iudicaremur         we should not be judged.

11:32  dum iudicamur autem a Domino          32.  But when we are judged, we are
corripimur ut non cum hoc mundo damnemur     chastened of the Lord, that we should
                                             not be condemned with the world.

11:33  itaque fratres mei cum                33.  Wherefore, my brethren, when ye
convenitis ad manducandum invicem            come together to eat, tarry one for
expectate                                    another.

11:34  si quis esurit domi manducet ut       34.  And if any man hunger, let him eat
non in iudicium conveniatis cetera           at home; that ye come not together unto
autem cum venero disponam                    condemnation. And the rest will I set
                                             in order when I come.
