2:1  et ego cum venissem ad vos fratres      1.  And I, brethren, when I came to
veni non per sublimitatem sermonis aut       you, came not with excellency of speech
sapientiae adnuntians vobis testimonium      or of wisdom, declaring unto you the
Christi                                      testimony of God.

2:2  non enim iudicavi scire me aliquid      2.  For I determined not to know any
inter vos nisi Iesum Christum et hunc        thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and
crucifixum                                   him crucified.

2:3  et ego in infirmitate et timore et      3.  And I was with you in weakness, and
tremore multo fui apud vos                   in fear, and in much trembling.

2:4  et sermo meus et praedicatio mea        4.  And my speech and my preaching was
non in persuasibilibus sapientiae            not with enticing words of man's
verbis sed in ostensione Spiritus et         wisdom, but in demonstration of the
virtutis                                     Spirit and of power:

2:5  ut fides vestra non sit in              5.  That your faith should not stand in
sapientia hominum sed in virtute Dei         the wisdom of men, but in the power of
                                             God.

2:6  sapientiam autem loquimur inter         6.  Howbeit we speak wisdom among them
perfectos sapientiam vero non huius          that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of
saeculi neque principum huius saeculi        this world, nor of the princes of this
qui destruuntur                              world, that come to nought:

2:7  sed loquimur Dei sapientiam in          7.  But we speak the wisdom of God in a
mysterio quae abscondita est quam            mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which
praedestinavit Deus ante saecula in          God ordained before the world unto our
gloriam nostram                              glory:

2:8  quam nemo principum huius saeculi       8.  Which none of the princes of this
cognovit si enim cognovissent numquam        world knew: for had they known it, they
Dominum gloriae crucifixissent               would not have crucified the Lord of
                                             glory.

2:9  sed sicut scriptum est quod oculus      9.  But as it is written, Eye hath not
non vidit nec auris audivit nec in cor       seen, nor ear heard, neither have
hominis ascendit quae praeparavit Deus       entered into the heart of man, the
his qui diligunt illum                       things which God hath prepared for them
                                             that love him.

2:10  nobis autem revelavit Deus per         10.  But God hath revealed them unto us
Spiritum suum Spiritus enim omnia            by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth
scrutatur etiam profunda Dei                 all things, yea, the deep things of God.

2:11  quis enim scit hominum quae sint       11.  For what man knoweth the things of
hominis nisi spiritus hominis qui in         a man, save the spirit of man which is
ipso est ita et quae Dei sunt nemo           in him? even so the things of God
cognovit nisi Spiritus Dei                   knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

2:12  nos autem non spiritum mundi           12.  Now we have received, not the
accepimus sed Spiritum qui ex Deo est        spirit of the world, but the spirit
ut sciamus quae a Deo donata sunt nobis      which is of God; that we might know the
                                             things that are freely given to us of
                                             God.

2:13  quae et loquimur non in doctis         13.  Which things also we speak, not in
humanae sapientiae verbis sed in             the words which man's wisdom teacheth,
doctrina Spiritus spiritalibus               but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;
spiritalia conparantes                       comparing spiritual things with
                                             spiritual.

2:14  animalis autem homo non percipit       14.  But the natural man receiveth not
ea quae sunt Spiritus Dei stultitia est      the things of the Spirit of God: for
enim illi et non potest intellegere          they are foolishness unto him: neither
quia spiritaliter examinatur                 can he know them, because they are
                                             spiritually discerned.

2:15  spiritalis autem iudicat omnia et      15.  But he that is spiritual judgeth
ipse a nemine iudicatur                      all things, yet he himself is judged of
                                             no man.

2:16  quis enim cognovit sensum Domini       16.  For who hath known the mind of the
qui instruat eum nos autem sensum            Lord, that he may instruct him? But we
Christi habemus                              have the mind of Christ.
