10:1 nolo enim vos ignorare fratres 1. Moreover, brethren, I would not
quoniam patres nostri omnes sub nube that ye should be ignorant, how that
fuerunt et omnes mare transierunt all our fathers were under the cloud,
                                             and all passed through the sea;

10:2 et omnes in Mose baptizati sunt 2. And were all baptized unto Moses in
in nube et in mari                           the cloud and in the sea;

10:3 et omnes eandem escam spiritalem 3. And did all eat the same spiritual
manducaverunt                                meat;

10:4 et omnes eundem potum spiritalem 4. And did all drink the same
biberunt bibebant autem de spiritali spiritual drink: for they drank of that
consequenti eos petra petra autem erat spiritual Rock that followed them: and
Christus that Rock was Christ.

10:5 sed non in pluribus eorum 5. But with many of them God was not
beneplacitum est Deo nam prostrati sunt well pleased: for they were overthrown
in deserto in the wilderness.

10:6 haec autem in figura facta sunt 6. Now these things were our examples,
nostri ut non simus concupiscentes to the intent we should not lust after
malorum sicut et illi concupierunt evil things, as they also lusted.

10:7 neque idolorum cultores 7. Neither be ye idolaters, as were

10:8 neque fornicemur sicut quidam ex 8. Neither let us commit fornication,
ipsis fornicati sunt et ceciderunt una as some of them committed, and fell in
die viginti tria milia one day three and twenty thousand.

10:9 neque temptemus Christum sicut 9. Neither let us tempt Christ, as
quidam eorum temptaverunt et a some of them also tempted, and were
serpentibus perierunt destroyed of serpents.

10:10 neque murmuraveritis sicut 10. Neither murmur ye, as some of them
quidam eorum murmuraverunt et perierunt also murmured, and were destroyed of
ab exterminatore the destroyer.

10:11 haec autem omnia in figura 11. Now all these things happened unto
contingebant illis scripta sunt autem them for ensamples: and they are
ad correptionem nostram in quos fines written for our admonition, upon whom
saeculorum devenerunt the ends of the world are come.

10:12 itaque qui se existimat stare 12. Wherefore let him that thinketh he
videat ne cadat standeth take heed lest he fall.

10:13 temptatio vos non adprehendat 13. There hath no temptation taken you
nisi humana fidelis autem Deus qui non but such as is common to man: but God
patietur vos temptari super id quod is faithful, who will not suffer you to
potestis sed faciet cum temptatione be tempted above that ye are able; but
etiam proventum ut possitis sustinere will with the temptation also make a
way to escape, that ye may be able to
                                             bear it.

10:14 propter quod carissimi mihi 14. Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee
fugite ab idolorum cultura from idolatry.

10:15 ut prudentibus loquor vos 15. I speak as to wise men; judge ye
iudicate quod dico what I say.

10:16 calicem benedictionis cui 16. The cup of blessing which we
benedicimus nonne communicatio bless, is it not the communion of the
sanguinis Christi est et panis quem blood of Christ? The bread which we
frangimus nonne participatio corporis break, is it not the communion of the
Domini est body of Christ?

10:17 quoniam unus panis unum corpus 17. For we being many are one bread,
multi sumus omnes quidem de uno pane and one body: for we are all partakers
participamur of that one bread.

10:18 videte Israhel secundum carnem 18. Behold Israel after the flesh: are
nonne qui edunt hostias participes sunt not they which eat of the sacrifices
altaris partakers of the altar?

10:19 quid ergo dico quod idolis 19. What say I then? that the idol is
immolatum sit aliquid aut quod idolum any thing, or that which is offered in
sit aliquid sacrifice to idols is any thing?

10:20 sed quae immolant gentes 20. But I say, that the things which
daemoniis immolant et non Deo nolo the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice
autem vos socios fieri daemoniorum non to devils, and not to God: and I would
potestis calicem Domini bibere et not that ye should have fellowship with
calicem daemoniorum devils.

10:21 non potestis mensae Domini 21. Ye cannot drink the cup of the
participes esse et mensae daemoniorum Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot
be partakers of the Lord's table, and
                                             of the table of devils.

10:22 an aemulamur Dominum numquid 22. Do we provoke the Lord to
fortiores illo sumus omnia licent sed jealousy? are we stronger than he?
non omnia expediunt

10:23 omnia licent sed non omnia 23. All things are lawful for me, but
aedificant all things are not expedient: all
things are lawful for me, but all
                                             things edify not.

10:24 nemo quod suum est quaerat sed 24. Let no man seek his own, but every
quod alterius man another's wealth.

10:25 omne quod in macello venit 25. Whatsoever is sold in the
manducate nihil interrogantes propter shambles, that eat, asking no question
conscientiam for conscience sake:

10:26 Domini est terra et plenitudo 26. For the earth is the Lord's, and
eius the fulness thereof.

10:27 si quis vocat vos infidelium et 27. If any of them that believe not
vultis ire omne quod vobis adponitur bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed
manducate nihil interrogantes propter to go; whatsoever is set before you,
conscientiam eat, asking no question for conscience
                                             sake.

10:28 si quis autem dixerit hoc 28. But if any man say unto you, This
immolaticium est idolis nolite is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat
manducare propter illum qui indicavit not for his sake that shewed it, and
et propter conscientiam for conscience sake: for the earth is
the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:

10:29 conscientiam autem dico non tuam 29. Conscience, I say, not thine own,
sed alterius ut quid enim libertas mea but of the other: for why is my liberty
iudicatur ab alia conscientia judged of another man's conscience?

10:30 si ego cum gratia participo quid 30. For if I by grace be a partaker,
blasphemor pro eo quod gratias ago why am I evil spoken of for that for
                                             which I give thanks?

10:31 sive ergo manducatis sive 31. Whether therefore ye eat, or
bibitis vel aliud quid facitis omnia in drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to
gloriam Dei facite the glory of God.

10:32 sine offensione estote Iudaeis 32. Give none offence, neither to the
et gentilibus et ecclesiae Dei Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the
                                             church of God:

10:33 sicut et ego per omnia omnibus 33. Even as I please all men in all
placeo non quaerens quod mihi utile est things, not seeking mine own profit,
sed quod multis ut salvi fiant but the profit of many, that they may
                                             be saved.
