wont, he taught them again.
10:2 et accedentes Pharisaei 2. And the Pharisees came to him, and
interrogabant eum si licet viro uxorem asked him, Is it lawful for a man to
dimittere temptantes eum put away his wife? tempting him.
10:3 at ille respondens dixit eis quid 3. And he answered and said unto them,
vobis praecepit Moses What did Moses command you?
10:4 qui dixerunt Moses permisit 4. And they said, Moses suffered to
libellum repudii scribere et dimittere write a bill of divorcement, and to put
her away.
10:5 quibus respondens Iesus ait ad 5. And Jesus answered and said unto
duritiam cordis vestri scripsit vobis them, For the hardness of your heart he
praeceptum istud wrote you this precept.
10:6 ab initio autem creaturae 6. But from the beginning of the
masculum et feminam fecit eos Deus creation God made them male and female.
10:7 propter hoc relinquet homo patrem 7. For this cause shall a man leave
suum et matrem et adherebit ad uxorem his father and mother, and cleave to
suam his wife;
10:8 et erunt duo in carne una itaque 8. And they twain shall be one flesh:
iam non sunt duo sed una caro so then they are no more twain, but one
flesh.
10:9 quod ergo Deus iunxit homo non 9. What therefore God hath joined

dimiserit uxorem suam et aliam duxerit shall put away his wife, and marry
adulterium committit super eam another, committeth adultery against
her.
10:12 et si uxor dimiserit virum suum 12. And if a woman shall put away her
et alii nupserit moechatur husband, and be married to another, she
committeth adultery.
10:13 et offerebant illi parvulos ut 13. And they brought young children to
tangeret illos discipuli autem him, that he should touch them: and his
comminabantur offerentibus disciples rebuked those that brought
them.
10:14 quos cum videret Iesus indigne 14. But when Jesus saw it, he was much
tulit et ait illis sinite parvulos displeased, and said unto them, Suffer
venire ad me et ne prohibueritis eos the little children to come unto me,
talium est enim regnum Dei and forbid them not: for of such is the
kingdom of God.
10:15 amen dico vobis quisque non 15. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever
receperit regnum Dei velut parvulus non shall not receive the kingdom of God as
intrabit in illud a little child, he shall not enter
therein.
10:16 et conplexans eos et inponens 16. And he took them up in his arms,
manus super illos benedicebat eos put his hands upon them, and blessed
them.
10:17 et cum egressus esset in viam 17. And when he was gone forth into
procurrens quidam genu flexo ante eum the way, there came one running, and
rogabat eum magister bone quid faciam kneeled to him, and asked him, Good
ut vitam aeternam percipiam Master, what shall I do that I may
inherit eternal life?
10:18 Iesus autem dixit ei quid me 18. And Jesus said unto him, Why
dicis bonum nemo bonus nisi unus Deus callest thou me good? there is none
good but one, that is, God.
10:19 praecepta nosti ne adulteres ne 19. Thou knowest the commandments, Do
occidas ne fureris ne falsum not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do
testimonium dixeris ne fraudem feceris not steal, Do not bear false witness,
honora patrem tuum et matrem Defraud not, Honour thy father and
mother.
10:20 et ille respondens ait illi 20. And he answered and said unto him,
magister omnia haec conservavi a Master, all these have I observed from
iuventute mea my youth.
10:21 Iesus autem intuitus eum dilexit 21. Then Jesus beholding him loved
eum et dixit illi unum tibi deest vade him, and said unto him, One thing thou
quaecumque habes vende et da pauperibus lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever
et habebis thesaurum in caelo et veni thou hast, and give to the poor, and
sequere me thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and
come, take up the cross, and follow me.
10:22 qui contristatus in verbo abiit 22. And he was sad at that saying, and
maerens erat enim habens possessiones went away grieved: for he had great
multas possessions.
10:23 et circumspiciens Iesus ait 23. And Jesus looked round about, and
discipulis suis quam difficile qui saith unto his disciples, How hardly
pecunias habent in regnum Dei introibunt shall they that have riches enter into
the kingdom of God!
10:24 discipuli autem obstupescebant 24. And the disciples were astonished
in verbis eius at Iesus rursus at his words. But Jesus answereth
respondens ait illis filioli quam again, and saith unto them, Children,
difficile est confidentes in pecuniis how hard is it for them that trust in
regnum Dei introire riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
10:25 facilius est camelum per foramen 25. It is easier for a camel to go
acus transire quam divitem intrare in through the eye of a needle, than for a
regnum Dei rich man to enter into the kingdom of
God.
10:26 qui magis admirabantur dicentes 26. And they were astonished out of
ad semet ipsos et quis potest salvus measure, saying among themselves, Who
fieri then can be saved?
10:27 et intuens illos Iesus ait apud 27. And Jesus looking upon them saith,
homines inpossibile est sed non apud With men it is impossible, but not with
Deum omnia enim possibilia sunt apud God: for with God all things are
Deum possible.
10:28 coepit Petrus ei dicere ecce nos 28. Then Peter began to say unto him,
dimisimus omnia et secuti sumus te Lo, we have left all, and have followed
thee.
10:29 respondens Iesus ait amen dico 29. And Jesus answered and said,
vobis nemo est qui reliquerit domum aut Verily I say unto you, There is no man
fratres aut sorores aut matrem aut that hath left house, or brethren, or
patrem aut filios aut agros propter me sisters, or father, or mother, or wife,
et propter evangelium or children, or lands, for my sake, and
the gospel's,
10:30 qui non accipiat centies tantum 30. But he shall receive an
nunc in tempore hoc domos et fratres et hundredfold now in this time, houses,
sorores et matres et filios et agros and brethren, and sisters, and mothers,
cum persecutionibus et in saeculo and children, and lands, with
futuro vitam aeternam persecutions; and in the world to come
eternal life.
10:31 multi autem erunt primi 31. But many that are first shall be
novissimi et novissimi primi last; and the last first.
10:32 erant autem in via ascendentes 32. And they were in the way going up
in Hierosolyma et praecedebat illos to Jerusalem; and Jesus went before
Iesus et stupebant et sequentes them: and they were amazed; and as they
timebant et adsumens iterum duodecim followed, they were afraid. And he took
coepit illis dicere quae essent ei again the twelve, and began to tell
ventura them what things should happen unto him,
10:33 quia ecce ascendimus in 33. Saying, Behold, we go up to
Hierosolyma et Filius hominis tradetur Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be
principibus sacerdotum et scribis et delivered unto the chief priests, and
senioribus et damnabunt eum morti et unto the scribes; and they shall
tradent eum gentibus condemn him to death, and shall deliver
him to the Gentiles:
10:34 et inludent ei et conspuent eum 34. And they shall mock him, and shall
et flagellabunt eum et interficient eum scourge him, and shall spit upon him,
et tertia die resurget and shall kill him: and the third day
he shall rise again.
10:35 et accedunt ad illum Iacobus et 35. And James and John, the sons of
Iohannes filii Zebedaei dicentes Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master,
magister volumus ut quodcumque we would that thou shouldest do for us
petierimus facias nobis whatsoever we shall desire.
10:36 at ille dixit eis quid vultis ut 36. And he said unto them, What would
faciam vobis ye that I should do for you?
10:37 et dixerunt da nobis ut unus ad 37. They said unto him, Grant unto us
dexteram tuam et alius ad sinistram that we may sit, one on thy right hand,
tuam sedeamus in gloria tua and the other on thy left hand, in thy
glory.
10:38 Iesus autem ait eis nescitis 38. But Jesus said unto them, Ye know
quid petatis potestis bibere calicem not what ye ask: can ye drink of the
quem ego bibo aut baptismum quo ego cup that I drink of? and be baptized
baptizor baptizari with the baptism that I am baptized
with?
10:39 at illi dixerunt ei possumus 39. And they said unto him, We can.
Iesus autem ait eis calicem quidem quem And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall
ego bibo bibetis et baptismum quo ego indeed drink of the cup that I drink
baptizor baptizabimini of; and with the baptism that I am
baptized withal shall ye be baptized:
10:40 sedere autem ad dexteram meam 40. But to sit on my right hand and on
vel ad sinistram non est meum dare sed my left hand is not mine to give; but
quibus paratum est it shall be given to them for whom it
is prepared.
10:41 et audientes decem coeperunt 41. And when the ten heard it, they
indignari de Iacobo et Iohanne began to be much displeased with James
and John.
10:42 Iesus autem vocans eos ait illis 42. But Jesus called them to him, and
scitis quia hii qui videntur principari saith unto them, Ye know that they
gentibus dominantur eis et principes which are accounted to rule over the
eorum potestatem habent ipsorum Gentiles exercise lordship over them;
and their great ones exercise authority
upon them.
10:43 non ita est autem in vobis sed 43. But so shall it not be among you:
quicumque voluerit fieri maior erit but whosoever will be great among you,
vester minister shall be your minister:
10:44 et quicumque voluerit in vobis 44. And whosoever of you will be the
primus esse erit omnium servus chiefest, shall be servant of all.
10:45 nam et Filius hominis non venit 45. For even the Son of man came not
ut ministraretur ei sed ut ministraret to be ministered unto, but to minister,
et daret animam suam redemptionem pro and to give his life a ransom for many.
multis
10:46 et veniunt Hierichum et 46. And they came to Jericho: and as
proficiscente eo de Hiericho et he went out of Jericho with his
discipulis eius et plurima multitudine disciples and a great number of people,
filius Timei Bartimeus caecus sedebat blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus,
iuxta viam mendicans sat by the highway side begging.
10:47 qui cum audisset quia Iesus 47. And when he heard that it was
Nazarenus est coepit clamare et dicere Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out,
Fili David Iesu miserere mei and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have
mercy on me.
10:48 et comminabantur illi multi ut 48. And many charged him that he
taceret at ille multo magis clamabat should hold his peace: but he cried the
Fili David miserere mei more a great deal, Thou son of David,
have mercy on me.
10:49 et stans Iesus praecepit illum 49. And Jesus stood still, and
vocari et vocant caecum dicentes ei commanded him to be called. And they
animaequior esto surge vocat te call the blind man, saying unto him, Be
of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
10:50 qui proiecto vestimento suo 50. And he, casting away his garment,
exiliens venit ad eum rose, and came to Jesus.
10:51 et respondens illi Iesus dixit 51. And Jesus answered and said unto
quid vis tibi faciam caecus autem dixit him, What wilt thou that I should do
ei rabboni ut videam unto thee? The blind man said unto him,
Lord, that I might receive my sight.
10:52 Iesus autem ait illi vade fides 52. And Jesus said unto him, Go thy
tua te salvum fecit et confestim vidit way; thy faith hath made thee whole.
et sequebatur eum in via And immediately he received his sight,
and followed Jesus in the way.
