15:1 et confestim mane consilium 1. And straightway in the morning the
facientes summi sacerdotes cum chief priests held a consultation with
senioribus et scribis et universo the elders and scribes and the whole
concilio vincientes Iesum duxerunt et council, and bound Jesus, and carried
tradiderunt Pilato him away, and delivered him to Pilate.
15:2 et interrogavit eum Pilatus tu es 2. And Pilate asked him, Art thou the
rex Iudaeorum at ille respondens ait King of the Jews? And he answering said
illi tu dicis unto them, Thou sayest it.
15:3 et accusabant eum summi 3. And the chief priests accused him
sacerdotes in multis of many things: but he answered nothing.
15:4 Pilatus autem rursum interrogavit 4. And Pilate asked him again, saying,
eum dicens non respondes quicquam vide Answerest thou nothing? behold how many
in quantis te accusant things they witness against thee.
15:5 Iesus autem amplius nihil 5. But Jesus yet answered nothing; so
respondit ita ut miraretur Pilatus that Pilate marvelled.
15:6 per diem autem festum dimittere 6. Now at that feast he released unto
solebat illis unum ex vinctis them one prisoner, whomsoever they
quemcumque petissent desired.
15:7 erat autem qui dicebatur Barabbas 7. And there was one named Barabbas,
qui cum seditiosis erat vinctus qui in which lay bound with them that had made
seditione fecerant homicidium insurrection with him, who had
committed murder in the insurrection.
15:8 et cum ascendisset turba coepit 8. And the multitude crying aloud
rogare sicut semper faciebat illis began to desire him to do as he had
ever done unto them.
15:9 Pilatus autem respondit eis et 9. But Pilate answered them, saying,
dixit vultis dimittam vobis regem Will ye that I release unto you the
Iudaeorum King of the Jews?
15:10 sciebat enim quod per invidiam 10. For he knew that the chief priests
tradidissent eum summi sacerdotes had delivered him for envy.
15:11 pontifices autem concitaverunt 11. But the chief priests moved the
turbam ut magis Barabban dimitteret eis people, that he should rather release
Barabbas unto them.
15:12 Pilatus autem iterum respondens 12. And Pilate answered and said again
ait illis quid ergo vultis faciam regi unto them, What will ye then that I
Iudaeorum shall do unto him whom ye call the King
of the Jews?
15:13 at illi iterum clamaverunt 13. And they cried out again, Crucify
crucifige eum him.
15:14 Pilatus vero dicebat eis quid 14. Then Pilate said unto them, Why,
enim mali fecit at illi magis clamabant what evil hath he done? And they cried
crucifige eum out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.
15:15 Pilatus autem volens populo 15. And so Pilate, willing to content
satisfacere dimisit illis Barabban et the people, released Barabbas unto
tradidit Iesum flagellis caesum ut them, and delivered Jesus, when he had
crucifigeretur scourged him, to be crucified.
15:16 milites autem duxerunt eum intro 16. And the soldiers led him away into
in atrium praetorii et convocant totam the hall, called Praetorium; and they

15:17 et induunt eum purpuram et 17. And they clothed him with purple,

15:19 et percutiebant caput eius 19. And they smote him on the head

15:21 et angariaverunt praetereuntem 21. And they compel one Simon a

15:23 et dabant ei bibere murratum 23. And they gave him to drink wine
vinum et non accepit mingled with myrrh: but he received it
not.
15:24 et crucifigentes eum diviserunt 24. And when they had crucified him,
vestimenta eius mittentes sortem super they parted his garments, casting lots
eis quis quid tolleret upon them, what every man should take.
15:25 erat autem hora tertia et 25. And it was the third hour, and

15:26 et erat titulus causae eius 26. And the superscription of his
inscriptus rex Iudaeorum accusation was written over, THE KING
OF THE JEWS.
15:27 et cum eo crucifigunt duos 27. And with him they crucify two
latrones unum a dextris et alium a thieves; the one on his right hand, and
sinistris eius the other on his left.
15:28 et adimpleta est scriptura quae 28. And the scripture was fulfilled,
dicit et cum iniquis reputatus est which saith, And he was numbered with
the transgressors.
15:29 et praetereuntes blasphemabant 29. And they that passed by railed on

15:35 et quidam de circumstantibus 35. And some of them that stood by,
audientes dicebant ecce Heliam vocat when they heard it, said, Behold, he
calleth Elias.
15:36 currens autem unus et implens 36. And one ran and filled a spunge
spongiam aceto circumponensque calamo full of vinegar, and put it on a reed,
potum dabat ei dicens sinite videamus and gave him to drink, saying, Let
si veniat Helias ad deponendum eum alone; let us see whether Elias will
come to take him down.
15:37 Iesus autem emissa voce magna 37. And Jesus cried with a loud voice,
exspiravit and gave up the ghost.
15:38 et velum templi scissum est in 38. And the veil of the temple was
duo a sursum usque deorsum rent in twain from the top to the
bottom.
15:39 videns autem centurio qui ex 39. And when the centurion, which
adverso stabat quia sic clamans stood over against him, saw that he so
exspirasset ait vere homo hic Filius cried out, and gave up the ghost, he
Dei erat said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
15:40 erant autem et mulieres de longe 40. There were also women looking on
aspicientes inter quas et Maria afar off: among whom was Mary
Magdalene et Maria Iacobi minoris et Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James
Ioseph mater et Salome the less and of Joses, and Salome;
15:41 et cum esset in Galilaea 41. (Who also, when he was in Galilee,
sequebantur eum et ministrabant ei et followed him, and ministered unto him;)
aliae multae quae simul cum eo and many other women which came up with
ascenderant Hierosolyma him unto Jerusalem.
15:42 et cum iam sero esset factum 42. And now when the even was come,
quia erat parasceve quod est ante because it was the preparation, that

15:43 venit Ioseph ab Arimathia 43. Joseph of Arimathaea, an
nobilis decurio qui et ipse erat honourable counsellor, which also

Iesu craved the body of Jesus.
15:44 Pilatus autem mirabatur si iam 44. And Pilate marvelled if he were
obisset et accersito centurione already dead: and calling unto him the
interrogavit eum si iam mortuus esset centurion, he asked him whether he had
been any while dead.
15:45 et cum cognovisset a centurione 45. And when he knew it of the
donavit corpus Ioseph centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.
15:46 Ioseph autem mercatus sindonem 46. And he bought fine linen, and took
et deponens eum involvit sindone et him down, and wrapped him in the linen,
posuit eum in monumento quod erat and laid him in a sepulchre which was

15:47 Maria autem Magdalene et Maria 47. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the
Ioseph aspiciebant ubi poneretur mother of Joses beheld where he was
laid.
