14:1 erat autem pascha et azyma post 1. After two days was the feast of the
biduum et quaerebant summi sacerdotes passover, and of unleavened bread: and
et scribae quomodo eum dolo tenerent et the chief priests and the scribes
occiderent sought how they might take him by
craft, and put him to death.

14:2 dicebant enim non in die festo ne 2. But they said, Not on the feast
forte tumultus fieret populi day, lest there be an uproar of the
                                             people.

14:3 et cum esset Bethaniae in domo 3. And being in Bethany in the house
Simonis leprosi et recumberet venit of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat,
mulier habens alabastrum unguenti nardi there came a woman having an alabaster
spicati pretiosi et fracto alabastro box of ointment of spikenard very
effudit super caput eius precious; and she brake the box, and
                                             poured it on his head.

14:4 erant autem quidam indigne 4. And there were some that had
ferentes intra semet ipsos et dicentes indignation within themselves, and
ut quid perditio ista unguenti facta est said, Why was this waste of the
                                             ointment made?

14:5 poterat enim unguentum istud 5. For it might have been sold for
veniri plus quam trecentis denariis et more than three hundred pence, and have
dari pauperibus et fremebant in eam been given to the poor. And they
                                             murmured against her.

14:6 Iesus autem dixit sinite eam quid 6. And Jesus said, Let her alone; why
illi molesti estis bonum opus operata trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good
est in me work on me.

14:7 semper enim pauperes habetis 7. For ye have the poor with you
vobiscum et cum volueritis potestis always, and whensoever ye will ye may
illis benefacere me autem non semper do them good: but me ye have not always.
habetis

14:8 quod habuit haec fecit praevenit 8. She hath done what she could: she
unguere corpus meum in sepulturam is come aforehand to anoint my body to
                                             the burying.

14:9 amen dico vobis ubicumque 9. Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever
praedicatum fuerit evangelium istud in this gospel shall be preached
universum mundum et quod fecit haec throughout the whole world, this also
narrabitur in memoriam eius that she hath done shall be spoken of
                                             for a memorial of her.

14:10 et Iudas Scariotis unus de 10. And Judas Iscariot, one of the
duodecim abiit ad summos sacerdotes ut twelve, went unto the chief priests, to
proderet eum illis betray him unto them.

14:11 qui audientes gavisi sunt et 11. And when they heard it, they were

quaerebat quomodo illum oportune And he sought how he might conveniently

14:12 et primo die azymorum quando 12. And the first day of unleavened
pascha immolabant dicunt ei discipuli bread, when they killed the passover,
quo vis eamus et paremus tibi ut his disciples said unto him, Where wilt
manduces pascha thou that we go and prepare that thou
                                             mayest eat the passover?

14:13 et mittit duos ex discipulis 13. And he sendeth forth two of his
suis et dicit eis ite in civitatem et disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye
occurret vobis homo laguenam aquae into the city, and there shall meet you
baiulans sequimini eum a man bearing a pitcher of water:
                                             follow him.

14:14 et quocumque introierit dicite 14. And wheresoever he shall go in,
domino domus quia magister dicit ubi say ye to the goodman of the house, The
est refectio mea ubi pascha cum Master saith, Where is the
discipulis meis manducem guestchamber, where I shall eat the
                                             passover with my disciples?

14:15 et ipse vobis demonstrabit 15. And he will shew you a large upper
cenaculum grande stratum et illic room furnished and prepared: there make
parate nobis ready for us.

14:16 et abierunt discipuli eius et 16. And his disciples went forth, and
venerunt in civitatem et invenerunt came into the city, and found as he had
sicut dixerat illis et praeparaverunt said unto them: and they made ready the
pascha passover.

14:17 vespere autem facto venit cum 17. And in the evening he cometh with
duodecim the twelve.

14:18 et discumbentibus eis et 18. And as they sat and did eat, Jesus
manducantibus ait Iesus amen dico vobis said, Verily I say unto you, One of you
quia unus ex vobis me tradet qui which eateth with me shall betray me.
manducat mecum

14:19 at illi coeperunt contristari et 19. And they began to be sorrowful,
dicere ei singillatim numquid ego and to say unto him one by one, Is it
I? and another said, Is it I?

14:20 qui ait illis unus ex duodecim 20. And he answered and said unto
qui intinguit mecum in catino them, It is one of the twelve, that
dippeth with me in the dish.

14:21 et Filius quidem hominis vadit 21. The Son of man indeed goeth, as it
sicut scriptum est de eo vae autem is written of him: but woe to that man
homini illi per quem Filius hominis by whom the Son of man is betrayed!
traditur bonum ei si non esset natus good were it for that man if he had
homo ille never been born.

14:22 et manducantibus illis accepit 22. And as they did eat, Jesus took
Iesus panem et benedicens fregit et bread, and blessed, and brake it, and
dedit eis et ait sumite hoc est corpus gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this
meum is my body.

14:23 et accepto calice gratias agens 23. And he took the cup, and when he
dedit eis et biberunt ex illo omnes had given thanks, he gave it to them:
and they all drank of it.

14:24 et ait illis hic est sanguis 24. And he said unto them, This is my
meus novi testamenti qui pro multis blood of the new testament, which is
effunditur shed for many.

14:25 amen dico vobis quod iam non 25. Verily I say unto you, I will
bibam de genimine vitis usque in diem drink no more of the fruit of the vine,
illum cum illud bibam novum in regno Dei until that day that I drink it new in
                                             the kingdom of God.

14:26 et hymno dicto exierunt in 26. And when they had sung an hymn,
montem Olivarum they went out into the mount of Olives.

14:27 et ait eis Iesus omnes 27. And Jesus saith unto them, All ye
scandalizabimini in nocte ista quia shall be offended because of me this
scriptum est percutiam pastorem et night: for it is written, I will smite
dispergentur oves the shepherd, and the sheep shall be
                                             scattered.

14:28 sed posteaquam resurrexero 28. But after that I am risen, I will
praecedam vos in Galilaeam go before you into Galilee.

14:29 Petrus autem ait ei et si omnes 29. But Peter said unto him, Although
scandalizati fuerint sed non ego all shall be offended, yet will not I.

14:30 et ait illi Iesus amen dico tibi 30. And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I
quia tu hodie in nocte hac priusquam say unto thee, That this day, even in
bis gallus vocem dederit ter me es this night, before the cock crow twice,
negaturus thou shalt deny me thrice.

14:31 at ille amplius loquebatur et si 31. But he spake the more vehemently,
oportuerit me simul conmori tibi non te If I should die with thee, I will not
negabo similiter autem et omnes dicebant deny thee in any wise. Likewise also
                                             said they all.

14:32 et veniunt in praedium cui nomen 32. And they came to a place which was
Gethsemani et ait discipulis suis named Gethsemane: and he saith to his
sedete hic donec orem disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall
                                             pray.

14:33 et adsumit Petrum et Iacobum et 33. And he taketh with him Peter and
Iohannem secum et coepit pavere et James and John, and began to be sore
taedere                                      amazed, and to be very heavy;

14:34 et ait illis tristis est anima 34. And saith unto them, My soul is
mea usque ad mortem sustinete hic et exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry
vigilate ye here, and watch.

14:35 et cum processisset paululum 35. And he went forward a little, and
procidit super terram et orabat ut si fell on the ground, and prayed that, if
fieri posset transiret ab eo hora it were possible, the hour might pass
                                             from him.

14:36 et dixit Abba Pater omnia 36. And he said, Abba, Father, all
possibilia tibi sunt transfer calicem things are possible unto thee; take
hunc a me sed non quod ego volo sed away this cup from me: nevertheless not
quod tu what I will, but what thou wilt.

14:37 et venit et invenit eos 37. And he cometh, and findeth them
dormientes et ait Petro Simon dormis sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon,
non potuisti una hora vigilare sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch
                                             one hour?

14:38 vigilate et orate ut non 38. Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter
intretis in temptationem spiritus into temptation. The spirit truly is
quidem promptus caro vero infirma ready, but the flesh is weak.

14:39 et iterum abiens oravit eundem 39. And again he went away, and
sermonem dicens prayed, and spake the same words.

14:40 et reversus denuo invenit eos 40. And when he returned, he found
dormientes erant enim oculi illorum them asleep again, (for their eyes were
ingravati et ignorabant quid heavy,) neither wist they what to
responderent ei answer him.

14:41 et venit tertio et ait illis 41. And he cometh the third time, and
dormite iam et requiescite sufficit saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take
venit hora ecce traditur Filius hominis your rest: it is enough, the hour is
in manus peccatorum come; behold, the Son of man is
betrayed into the hands of sinners.

14:42 surgite eamus ecce qui me tradit 42. Rise up, let us go; lo, he that
prope est betrayeth me is at hand.

14:43 et adhuc eo loquente venit Iudas 43. And immediately, while he yet
Scarioth unus ex duodecim et cum illo spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve,
turba cum gladiis et lignis a summis and with him a great multitude with
sacerdotibus et a scribis et a swords and staves, from the chief
senioribus priests and the scribes and the elders.

14:44 dederat autem traditor eius 44. And he that betrayed him had given
signum eis dicens quemcumque osculatus them a token, saying, Whomsoever I
fuero ipse est tenete eum et ducite shall kiss, that same is he; take him,
                                             and lead him away safely.

14:68 at ille negavit dicens neque 68. But he denied, saying, I know not,
scio neque novi quid dicas et exiit neither understand I what thou sayest.
foras ante atrium et gallus cantavit And he went out into the porch; and the
