2:1  propter quod inexcusabilis es           1.  Therefore thou art inexcusable, O
o homo omnis qui iudicas in quo enim         man, whosoever thou art that judgest:
iudicas alterum te ipsum condemnas           for wherein thou judgest another, thou
eadem enim agis qui iudicas                  condemnest thyself; for thou that
                                             judgest doest the same things.

2:2  scimus enim quoniam iudicium Dei        2.  But we are sure that the judgment
est secundum veritatem in eos qui talia      of God is according to truth against
agunt                                        them which commit such things.

2:3  existimas autem hoc o homo qui          3.  And thinkest thou this, O man, that
iudicas eos qui talia agunt et facis ea      judgest them which do such things, and
quia tu effugies iudicium Dei                doest the same, that thou shalt escape
                                             the judgment of God?

2:4  an divitias bonitatis eius et           4.  Or despisest thou the riches of his
patientiae et longanimitatis contemnis       goodness and forbearance and
ignorans quoniam benignitas Dei ad           longsuffering; not knowing that the
paenitentiam te adducit                      goodness of God leadeth thee to
                                             repentance?

2:5  secundum duritiam autem tuam et         5.  But after thy hardness and
inpaenitens cor thesaurizas tibi iram        impenitent heart treasurest up unto
in die irae et revelationis iusti            thyself wrath against the day of wrath
iudicii Dei                                  and revelation of the righteous
                                             judgment of God;

2:6  qui reddet unicuique secundum           6.  Who will render to every man
opera eius                                   according to his deeds:

2:7  his quidem qui secundum patientiam      7.  To them who by patient continuance
boni operis gloriam et honorem et            in well doing seek for glory and honour
incorruptionem quaerentibus vitam            and immortality, eternal life:
aeternam

2:8  his autem qui ex contentione et         8.  But unto them that are contentious,
qui non adquiescunt veritati credunt         and do not obey the truth, but obey
autem iniquitati ira et indignatio           unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,

2:9  tribulatio et angustia in omnem         9.  Tribulation and anguish, upon every
animam hominis operantis malum Iudaei        soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew
primum et Graeci                             first, and also of the Gentile;

2:10  gloria autem et honor et pax omni      10.  But glory, honour, and peace, to
operanti bonum Iudaeo primum et Graeco       every man that worketh good, to the Jew
                                             first, and also to the Gentile:

2:11  non est enim personarum acceptio       11.  For there is no respect of persons
apud Deum                                    with God.

2:12  quicumque enim sine lege               12.  For as many as have sinned without
peccaverunt sine lege et peribunt et         law shall also perish without law: and
quicumque in lege peccaverunt per legem      as many as have sinned in the law shall
iudicabuntur                                 be judged by the law;

2:13  non enim auditores legis iusti         13.  (For not the hearers of the law
sunt apud Deum sed factores legis            are just before God, but the doers of
iustificabuntur                              the law shall be justified.

2:14  cum enim gentes quae legem non         14.  For when the Gentiles, which have
habent naturaliter quae legis sunt           not the law, do by nature the things
faciunt eiusmodi legem non habentes          contained in the law, these, having not
ipsi sibi sunt lex                           the law, are a law unto themselves:

2:15  qui ostendunt opus legis scriptum      15.  Which shew the work of the law
in cordibus suis testimonium reddente        written in their hearts, their
illis conscientia ipsorum et inter se        conscience also bearing witness, and
invicem cogitationum accusantium aut         their thoughts the mean while accusing
etiam defendentium                           or else excusing one another;)

2:16  in die cum iudicabit Deus occulta      16.  In the day when God shall judge
hominum secundum evangelium meum per         the secrets of men by Jesus Christ
Iesum Christum                               according to my gospel.

2:17  si autem tu Iudaeus cognominaris       17.  Behold, thou art called a Jew, and
et requiescis in lege et gloriaris in        restest in the law, and makest thy
Deo                                          boast of God,

2:18  et nosti voluntatem et probas          18.  And knowest his will, and
utiliora instructus per legem                approvest the things that are more
                                             excellent, being instructed out of the
                                             law;

2:19  confidis te ipsum ducem esse           19.  And art confident that thou
caecorum lumen eorum qui in tenebris         thyself art a guide of the blind, a
sunt                                         light of them which are in darkness,

2:20  eruditorem insipientium magistrum      20.  An instructor of the foolish, a
infantium habentem formam scientiae et       teacher of babes, which hast the form
veritatis in lege                            of knowledge and of the truth in the
                                             law.

2:21  qui ergo alium doces te ipsum non      21.  Thou therefore which teachest
doces qui praedicas non furandum furaris     another, teachest thou not thyself?
                                             thou that preachest a man should not
                                             steal, dost thou steal?

2:22  qui dicis non moechandum               22.  Thou that sayest a man should not
moecharis qui abominaris idola               commit adultery, dost thou commit
sacrilegium facis                            adultery? thou that abhorrest idols,
                                             dost thou commit sacrilege?

2:23  qui in lege gloriaris per              23.  Thou that makest thy boast of the
praevaricationem legis Deum inhonoras        law, through breaking the law
                                             dishonourest thou God?

2:24  nomen enim Dei per vos                 24.  For the name of God is blasphemed
blasphematur inter gentes sicut              among the Gentiles through you, as it
scriptum est                                 is written.

2:25  circumcisio quidem prodest si          25.  For circumcision verily profiteth,
legem observes si autem praevaricator        if thou keep the law: but if thou be a
legis sis circumcisio tua praeputium         breaker of the law, thy circumcision is
facta est                                    made uncircumcision.

2:26  si igitur praeputium iustitias         26.  Therefore if the uncircumcision
legis custodiat nonne praeputium illius      keep the righteousness of the law,
in circumcisionem reputabitur                shall not his uncircumcision be counted
                                             for circumcision?

2:27  et iudicabit quod ex natura est        27.  And shall not uncircumcision which
praeputium legem consummans te qui per       is by nature, if it fulfil the law,
litteram et circumcisionem                   judge thee, who by the letter and
praevaricator legis es                       circumcision dost transgress the law?

2:28  non enim qui in manifesto Iudaeus      28.  For he is not a Jew, which is one
est neque quae in manifesto in carne         outwardly; neither is that
circumcisio                                  circumcision, which is outward in the
                                             flesh:

2:29  sed qui in abscondito Iudaeus et       29.  But he is a Jew, which is one
circumcisio cordis in spiritu non            inwardly; and circumcision is that of
littera cuius laus non ex hominibus sed      the heart, in the spirit, and not in
ex Deo est                                   the letter; whose praise is not of men,
                                             but of God.
