sciens Iesus quia venit eius hora ut passover, when Jesus knew that his hour
transeat ex hoc mundo ad Patrem cum was come that he should depart out of

finem dilexit eos loved his own which were in the world,
he loved them unto the end.

13:2 et cena facta cum diabolus iam 2. And supper being ended, the devil
misisset in corde ut traderet eum Iudas having now put into the heart of Judas
Simonis Scariotis                            Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;

13:3 sciens quia omnia dedit ei Pater 3. Jesus knowing that the Father had
in manus et quia a Deo exivit et ad given all things into his hands, and
Deum vadit that he was come from God, and went to
                                             God;

13:4 surgit a cena et ponit vestimenta 4. He riseth from supper, and laid
sua et cum accepisset linteum aside his garments; and took a towel,
praecinxit se and girded himself.

13:5 deinde mittit aquam in pelvem et 5. After that he poureth water into a
coepit lavare pedes discipulorum et bason, and began to wash the disciples'

                                             wherewith he was girded.

13:6 venit ergo ad Simonem Petrum et 6. Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and
dicit ei Petrus Domine tu mihi lavas Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou
pedes wash my feet?

13:7 respondit Iesus et dicit ei quod 7. Jesus answered and said unto him,
ego facio tu nescis modo scies autem What I do thou knowest not now; but
postea thou shalt know hereafter.

13:8 dicit ei Petrus non lavabis mihi 8. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt
pedes in aeternum respondit Iesus ei si never wash my feet. Jesus answered him,
non lavero te non habes partem mecum If I wash thee not, thou hast no part
                                             with me.

13:9 dicit ei Simon Petrus Domine non 9. Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord,
tantum pedes meos sed et manus et caput not my feet only, but also my hands and
                                             my head.

13:10 dicit ei Iesus qui lotus est non 10. Jesus saith to him, He that is
indiget ut lavet sed est mundus totus washed needeth not save to wash his
et vos mundi estis sed non omnes feet, but is clean every whit: and ye
                                             are clean, but not all.

13:11  sciebat enim quisnam esset qui        11.  For he knew who should betray him;
traderet eum propterea dixit non estis therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
mundi omnes

13:12 postquam ergo lavit pedes eorum 12. So after he had washed their feet,
et accepit vestimenta sua cum and had taken his garments, and was set
recubuisset iterum dixit eis scitis down again, he said unto them, Know ye
quid fecerim vobis what I have done to you?

13:13 vos vocatis me magister et 13. Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye
Domine et bene dicitis sum etenim say well; for so I am.

13:14 si ergo ego lavi vestros pedes 14. If I then, your Lord and Master,
Dominus et magister et vos debetis have washed your feet; ye also ought to
alter alterius lavare pedes wash one another's feet.

13:15 exemplum enim dedi vobis ut 15. For I have given you an example,
quemadmodum ego feci vobis ita et vos that ye should do as I have done to you.
faciatis

13:16 amen amen dico vobis non est 16. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
servus maior domino suo neque apostolus The servant is not greater than his
maior eo qui misit illum lord; neither he that is sent greater
                                             than he that sent him.

13:17 si haec scitis beati eritis si 17. If ye know these things, happy are
feceritis ea ye if ye do them.

13:18 non de omnibus vobis dico ego 18. I speak not of you all: I know
scio quos elegerim sed ut impleatur whom I have chosen: but that the
scriptura qui manducat mecum panem scripture may be fulfilled, He that
levavit contra me calcaneum suum eateth bread with me hath lifted up his
                                             heel against me.

13:19 amodo dico vobis priusquam fiat 19. Now I tell you before it come,
ut credatis cum factum fuerit quia ego that, when it is come to pass, ye may
sum believe that I am he.

13:20 amen amen dico vobis qui accipit 20. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He
si quem misero me accipit qui autem me that receiveth whomsoever I send
accipit accipit eum qui me misit receiveth me; and he that receiveth me
                                             receiveth him that sent me.

13:21 cum haec dixisset Iesus turbatus 21. When Jesus had thus said, he was
est spiritu et protestatus est et dixit troubled in spirit, and testified, and
amen amen dico vobis quia unus ex vobis said, Verily, verily, I say unto you,
tradet me that one of you shall betray me.

13:22 aspiciebant ergo ad invicem 22. Then the disciples looked one on
discipuli haesitantes de quo diceret another, doubting of whom he spake.

13:23 erat ergo recumbens unus ex 23. Now there was leaning on Jesus'
discipulis eius in sinu Iesu quem bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus
diligebat Iesus loved.

13:24 innuit ergo huic Simon Petrus et 24. Simon Peter therefore beckoned to
dicit ei quis est de quo dicit him, that he should ask who it should
                                             be of whom he spake.

13:25 itaque cum recubuisset ille 25. He then lying on Jesus' breast
supra pectus Iesu dicit ei Domine quis saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
est

13:26 respondit Iesus ille est cui ego 26. Jesus answered, He it is, to whom
intinctum panem porrexero et cum I shall give a sop, when I have dipped
intinxisset panem dedit Iudae Simonis it. And when he had dipped the sop, he
Scariotis gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of
                                             Simon.

13:27 et post buccellam tunc introivit 27. And after the sop Satan entered
in illum Satanas dicit ei Iesus quod into him. Then said Jesus unto him,
facis fac citius That thou doest, do quickly.

13:28 hoc autem nemo scivit 28. Now no man at the table knew for
discumbentium ad quid dixerit ei what intent he spake this unto him.

13:29 quidam enim putabant quia 29. For some of them thought, because
loculos habebat Iudas quia dicit ei Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said
Iesus eme ea quae opus sunt nobis ad unto him, Buy those things that we have
diem festum aut egenis ut aliquid daret need of against the feast; or, that he
should give something to the poor.

13:30 cum ergo accepisset ille 30. He then having received the sop
buccellam exivit continuo erat autem nox went immediately out: and it was night.

13:31 cum ergo exisset dicit Iesus 31. Therefore, when he was gone out,
nunc clarificatus est Filius hominis et Jesus said, Now is the Son of man
Deus clarificatus est in eo glorified, and God is glorified in him.

13:32 si Deus clarificatus est in eo 32. If God be glorified in him, God
et Deus clarificabit eum in semet ipso shall also glorify him in himself, and
et continuo clarificabit eum shall straightway glorify him.

13:33 filioli adhuc modicum vobiscum 33. Little children, yet a little
sum quaeretis me et sicut dixi Iudaeis while I am with you. Ye shall seek me:
quo ego vado vos non potestis venire et and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I
vobis dico modo go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.

13:34 mandatum novum do vobis ut 34. A new commandment I give unto you,
diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos ut That ye love one another; as I have
et vos diligatis invicem loved you, that ye also love one
                                             another.

13:35 in hoc cognoscent omnes quia mei 35. By this shall all men know that ye
discipuli estis si dilectionem are my disciples, if ye have love one
habueritis ad invicem to another.

13:36 dicit ei Simon Petrus Domine quo 36. Simon Peter said unto him, Lord,
vadis respondit Iesus quo ego vado non whither goest thou? Jesus answered him,
potes me modo sequi sequeris autem Whither I go, thou canst not follow me
postea now; but thou shalt follow me
                                             afterwards.

13:37 dicit ei Petrus quare non possum 37. Peter said unto him, Lord, why
sequi te modo animam meam pro te ponam cannot I follow thee now? I will lay
down my life for thy sake.

13:38 respondit Iesus animam tuam pro 38. Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay
me ponis amen amen dico tibi non down thy life for my sake? Verily,
cantabit gallus donec me ter neges verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall
not crow, till thou hast denied me
                                             thrice.
