After these things Jesus went over Galilaeae quod est Tiberiadis the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. 6:2 et sequebatur eum multitudo magna 2. And a great multitude followed him, quia videbant signa quae faciebat super because they saw his miracles which he his qui infirmabantur did on them that were diseased. 6:3 subiit ergo in montem Iesus et ibi 3. And this he said to prove him: for ipse enim sciebat quid esset facturus he himself knew what he would do. 6:7 respondit ei Philippus ducentorum 7. Philip answered him, Two hundred denariorum panes non sufficiunt eis ut pennyworth of bread is not sufficient unusquisque modicum quid accipiat for them, that every one of them may take a little. 6:8 dicit ei unus ex discipulis eius 8. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Andreas frater Simonis Petri Peter's brother, saith unto him, 6:9 est puer unus hic qui habet 9. There is a lad here, which hath quinque panes hordiacios et duos pisces five barley loaves, and two small sed haec quid sunt inter tantos fishes: but what are they among so many? 6:10 dixit ergo Iesus facite homines 10. And Jesus said, Make the men sit discumbere erat autem faenum multum in down. Now there was much grass in the loco discubuerunt ergo viri numero place. So the men sat down, in number quasi quinque milia about five thousand. 6:11 accepit ergo panes Iesus et cum 11. And Jesus took the loaves; and gratias egisset distribuit when he had given thanks, he discumbentibus similiter et ex piscibus distributed to the disciples, and the quantum volebant disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 6:12 ut autem impleti sunt dixit 12. When they were filled, he said discipulis suis colligite quae unto his disciples, Gather up the superaverunt fragmenta ne pereant fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 6:13 collegerunt ergo et impleverunt 13. Therefore they gathered them duodecim cofinos fragmentorum ex together, and filled twelve baskets quinque panibus hordiaciis quae with the fragments of the five barley superfuerunt his qui manducaverunt loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. 6:14 illi ergo homines cum vidissent 14. When the people therefore saw that Iesus non esset ibi neque discipuli Jesus was not there, neither his eius ascenderunt naviculas et venerunt disciples, they also took shipping, and Capharnaum quaerentes Iesum came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. 6:25 et cum invenissent eum trans mare 25. And when they had found him on the dixerunt ei rabbi quando huc venisti other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? 6:26 respondit eis Iesus et dixit amen 26. Jesus answered them and said, amen dico vobis quaeritis me non quia Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek vidistis signa sed quia manducastis ex me, not because ye saw the miracles, panibus et saturati estis but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 6:27 operamini non cibum qui perit sed 27. Labour not for the meat which qui permanet in vitam aeternam quem perisheth, but for that meat which Filius hominis vobis dabit hunc enim endureth unto everlasting life, which Pater signavit Deus the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. 6:28 dixerunt ergo ad eum quid 28. Then said they unto him, What faciemus ut operemur opera Dei shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 6:29 respondit Iesus et dixit eis hoc 29. Jesus answered and said unto them, est opus Dei ut credatis in eum quem This is the work of God, that ye misit ille believe on him whom he hath sent. 6:30 dixerunt ergo ei quod ergo tu 30. They said therefore unto him, What facis signum ut videamus et credamus sign shewest thou then, that we may tibi quid operaris see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 6:31 patres nostri manna manducaverunt 31. Our fathers did eat manna in the in deserto sicut scriptum est panem de desert; as it is written, He gave them caelo dedit eis manducare bread from heaven to eat. 6:32 dixit ergo eis Iesus amen amen 32. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, dico vobis non Moses dedit vobis panem verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you de caelo sed Pater meus dat vobis panem not that bread from heaven; but my de caelo verum Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 6:33 panis enim Dei est qui descendit 33. For the bread of God is he which de caelo et dat vitam mundo cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 6:34 dixerunt ergo ad eum Domine 34. Then said they unto him, Lord, semper da nobis panem hunc evermore give us this bread. 6:35 dixit autem eis Iesus ego sum 35. And Jesus said unto them, I am the panis vitae qui veniet ad me non bread of life: he that cometh to me esuriet et qui credit in me non sitiet shall never hunger; and he that umquam believeth on me shall never thirst. 6:36 sed dixi vobis quia et vidistis 36. But I said unto you, That ye also me et non creditis have seen me, and believe not. 6:37 omne quod dat mihi Pater ad me 37. All that the Father giveth me veniet et eum qui venit ad me non shall come to me; and him that cometh eiciam foras to me I will in no wise cast out. 6:38 quia descendi de caelo non ut 38. For I came down from heaven, not faciam voluntatem meam sed voluntatem to do mine own will, but the will of eius qui misit me him that sent me. 6:39 haec est autem voluntas eius qui 39. And this is the Father's will misit me Patris ut omne quod dedit mihi which hath sent me, that of all which non perdam ex eo sed resuscitem illum he hath given me I should lose nothing, novissimo die but should raise it up again at the last day. 6:40 haec est enim voluntas Patris mei 40. And this is the will of him that qui misit me ut omnis qui videt Filium sent me, that every one which seeth the et credit in eum habeat vitam aeternam Son, and believeth on him, may have et resuscitabo ego eum in novissimo die everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 6:41 murmurabant ergo Iudaei de illo 41. The Jews then murmured at him, quia dixisset ego sum panis qui de because he said, I am the bread which caelo descendi came down from heaven. 6:42 et dicebant nonne hic est Iesus 42. And they said, Is not this Jesus, filius Ioseph cuius nos novimus patrem the son of Joseph, whose father and et matrem quomodo ergo dicit hic quia mother we know? how is it then that he de caelo descendi saith, I came down from heaven? 6:43 respondit ergo Iesus et dixit eis 43. Jesus therefore answered and said nolite murmurare in invicem unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 6:44 nemo potest venire ad me nisi 44. No man can come to me, except the Pater qui misit me traxerit eum et ego Father which hath sent me draw him: and resuscitabo eum novissimo die I will raise him up at the last day. 6:45 est scriptum in prophetis et 45. It is written in the prophets, And erunt omnes docibiles Dei omnis qui they shall be all taught of God. Every audivit a Patre et didicit venit ad me man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. 6:46 non quia Patrem vidit quisquam 46. Not that any man hath seen the nisi is qui est a Deo hic vidit Patrem Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father. 6:47 amen amen dico vobis qui credit 47. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He in me habet vitam aeternam that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 6:48 ego sum panis vitae 48. I am that bread of life. 6:49 patres vestri manducaverunt in 49. Your fathers did eat manna in the deserto manna et mortui sunt wilderness, and are dead. 6:50 hic est panis de caelo descendens 50. This is the bread which cometh ut si quis ex ipso manducaverit non down from heaven, that a man may eat moriatur thereof, and not die. 6:51 ego sum panis vivus qui de caelo 51. I am the living bread which came descendi down from heaven: 6:52 si quis manducaverit ex hoc pane 51. (continues) if any man eat of vivet in aeternum et panis quem ego this bread, he shall live for ever: and dabo caro mea est pro mundi vita the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 6:53 litigabant ergo Iudaei ad invicem 52. The Jews therefore strove among dicentes quomodo potest hic nobis themselves, saying, How can this man carnem suam dare ad manducandum give us his flesh to eat? 6:54 dixit ergo eis Iesus amen amen 53. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, dico vobis nisi manducaveritis carnem verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat Filii hominis et biberitis eius the flesh of the Son of man, and drink sanguinem non habetis vitam in vobis his blood, ye have no life in you. 6:55 qui manducat meam carnem et bibit 54. Whoso eateth my flesh, and meum sanguinem habet vitam aeternam et drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; ego resuscitabo eum in novissimo die and I will raise him up at the last day. 6:56 caro enim mea vere est cibus et 55. For my flesh is meat indeed, and sanguis meus vere est potus my blood is drink indeed. 6:57 qui manducat meam carnem et bibit 56. He that eateth my flesh, and meum sanguinem in me manet et ego in drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and illo I in him. 6:58 sicut misit me vivens Pater et 57. As the living Father hath sent me, ego vivo propter Patrem et qui manducat and I live by the Father: so he that me et ipse vivet propter me eateth me, even he shall live by me. 6:59 hic est panis qui de caelo 58. This is that bread which came down descendit non sicut manducaverunt from heaven: not as your fathers did patres vestri manna et mortui sunt qui eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth manducat hunc panem vivet in aeternum of this bread shall live for ever. 6:60 haec dixit in synagoga docens in 59. These things said he in the Capharnaum synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 6:61 multi ergo audientes ex 60. Many therefore of his disciples, discipulis eius dixerunt durus est hic when they had heard this, said, This is sermo quis potest eum audire an hard saying; who can hear it? 6:62 sciens autem Iesus apud semet 61. When Jesus knew in himself that ipsum quia murmurarent de hoc discipuli his disciples murmured at it, he said eius dixit eis hoc vos scandalizat unto them, Doth this offend you? 6:63 si ergo videritis Filium hominis 62. What and if ye shall see the Son ascendentem ubi erat prius of man ascend up where he was before? 6:64 spiritus est qui vivificat caro 63. It is the spirit that quickeneth; non prodest quicquam verba quae ego the flesh profiteth nothing: the words locutus sum vobis spiritus et vita sunt that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 6:65 sed sunt quidam ex vobis qui non 64. But there are some of you that credunt sciebat enim ab initio Iesus believe not. For Jesus knew from the qui essent credentes et quis traditurus beginning who they were that believed esset eum not, and who should betray him. 6:66 et dicebat propterea dixi vobis 65. From that time many of his abierunt retro et iam non cum illo disciples went back, and walked no more ambulabant with him. 6:68 dixit ergo Iesus ad duodecim 67. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, numquid et vos vultis abire Will ye also go away? 6:69 respondit ergo ei Simon Petrus 68. Then Simon Peter answered him, Domine ad quem ibimus verba vitae Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast aeternae habes the words of eternal life. 6:70 et nos credidimus et cognovimus 69. And we believe and are sure that quia tu es Christus Filius Dei thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. 6:71 respondit eis Iesus nonne ego vos 70. Jesus answered them, Have not I duodecim elegi et ex vobis unus chosen you twelve, and one of you is a diabolus est devil? 6:72 dicebat autem Iudam Simonis 71.
