And as Jesus passed by, he saw a caecum a nativitate man which was blind from his birth. 9:2 et interrogaverunt eum discipuli 2. And his disciples asked him, sui rabbi quis peccavit hic aut saying, Master, who did sin, this man, parentes eius ut caecus nasceretur or his parents, that he was born blind? 9:3 respondit Iesus neque hic peccavit 3. Jesus answered, Neither hath this neque parentes eius sed ut manifestetur man sinned, nor his parents: but that opera Dei in illo the works of God should be made manifest in him. 9:4 me oportet operari opera eius qui 4. I must work the works of him that misit me donec dies est venit nox sent me, while it is day: the night quando nemo potest operari cometh, when no man can work. 9:5 quamdiu in mundo sum lux sum mundi 5. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. 9:6 haec cum dixisset expuit in terram 6. When he had thus spoken, he spat on et fecit lutum ex sputo et linuit lutum the ground, and made clay of the super oculos eius spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay, 9:7 et dixit ei vade lava in natatoria 7. And said unto him, Go, wash in the Siloae quod interpretatur Missus abiit pool of Siloam, (which is by ergo et lavit et venit videns interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. 9:8 itaque vicini et qui videbant eum 8. The neighbours therefore, and they prius quia mendicus erat dicebant nonne which before had seen him that he was hic est qui sedebat et mendicabat alii blind, said, Is not this he that sat dicebant quia hic est and begged? 9:9 alii autem nequaquam sed similis 9. Some said, This is he: others said, est eius ille dicebat quia ego sum He is like him: but he said, I am he. 9:10 dicebant ergo ei quomodo aperti 10. Therefore said they unto him, How sunt oculi tibi were thine eyes opened? 9:11 respondit ille homo qui dicitur 11. He answered and said, A man that Iesus lutum fecit et unxit oculos meos is called Jesus made clay, and anointed et dixit mihi vade ad natatoriam Siloae mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the et lava et abii et lavi et vidi pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight. 9:12 dixerunt ei ubi est ille ait 12. Then said they unto him, Where is nescio he? He said, I know not. 9:13 adducunt eum ad Pharisaeos qui 13. They brought to the Pharisees him caecus fuerat that aforetime was blind. 9:14 erat autem sabbatum quando lutum 14. And it was the sabbath day when fecit Iesus et aperuit oculos eius Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. 9:15 iterum ergo interrogabant eum 15. Then again the Pharisees also Pharisaei quomodo vidisset ille autem asked him how he had received his dixit eis lutum posuit mihi super sight. He said unto them, He put clay oculos et lavi et video upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. 9:16 dicebant ergo ex Pharisaeis 16. Therefore said some of the quidam non est hic homo a Deo quia Pharisees, This man is not of God, sabbatum non custodit alii dicebant because he keepeth not the sabbath day. quomodo potest homo peccator haec signa Others said, How can a man that is a facere et scisma erat in eis sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them. 9:17 dicunt ergo caeco iterum tu quid 17. They say unto the blind man again, dicis de eo qui aperuit oculos tuos What sayest thou of him, that he hath ille autem dixit quia propheta est opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet. 9:18 non crediderunt ergo Iudaei de 18. But the Jews did not believe illo quia caecus fuisset et vidisset concerning him, that he had been blind, donec vocaverunt parentes eius qui and received his sight, until they viderat called the parents of him that had received his sight. 9:19 et interrogaverunt eos dicentes 19. And they asked them, saying, Is hic est filius vester quem vos dicitis this your son, who ye say was born quia caecus natus est quomodo ergo nunc blind? how then doth he now see? videt 9:20 responderunt eis parentes eius et 20. His parents answered them and dixerunt scimus quia hic est filius said, We know that this is our son, and noster et quia caecus natus est that he was born blind: 9:21 quomodo autem nunc videat 21. But by what means he now seeth, we nescimus aut quis eius aperuit oculos know not; or who hath opened his eyes, nos nescimus ipsum interrogate aetatem we know not: he is of age; ask him: he habet ipse de se loquatur shall speak for himself. 9:22 haec dixerunt parentes eius quia 22. These words spake his parents, timebant Iudaeos iam enim because they feared the Jews: for the conspiraverant Iudaei ut si quis eum Jews had agreed already, that if any confiteretur Christum extra synagogam man did confess that he was Christ, he fieret should be put out of the synagogue. 9:23 propterea parentes eius dixerunt 23. Therefore said his parents, He is quia aetatem habet ipsum interrogate of age; ask him. 9:24 vocaverunt ergo rursum hominem 24. Then again called they the man qui fuerat caecus et dixerunt ei da that was blind, and said unto him, Give gloriam Deo nos scimus quia hic homo God the praise: we know that this man peccator est is a sinner. 9:25 dixit ergo ille si peccator est 25. He answered and said, Whether he nescio unum scio quia caecus cum essem be a sinner or no, I know not: one modo video thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see. 9:26 dixerunt ergo illi quid fecit 26. Then said they to him again, What tibi quomodo aperuit tibi oculos did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? 9:27 respondit eis dixi vobis iam et 27. He answered them, I have told you audistis quid iterum vultis audire already, and ye did not hear: wherefore numquid et vos vultis discipuli eius would ye hear it again? will ye also be fieri his disciples? 9:28 maledixerunt ei et dixerunt tu 28. Then they reviled him, and said, discipulus illius es nos autem Mosi Thou art his disciple; but we are discipuli sumus Moses' disciples. 9:29 nos scimus quia Mosi locutus est 29. We know that God spake unto Moses: Deus hunc autem nescimus unde sit as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is. 9:30 respondit ille homo et dixit eis 30. The man answered and said unto in hoc enim mirabile est quia vos them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, nescitis unde sit et aperuit meos oculos that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. 9:31 scimus autem quia peccatores Deus 31. Now we know that God heareth not non audit sed si quis Dei cultor est et sinners: but if any man be a worshipper voluntatem eius facit hunc exaudit of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. 9:32 a saeculo non est auditum quia 32. Since the world began was it not aperuit quis oculos caeci nati heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind. 9:33 nisi esset hic a Deo non poterat 33. If this man were not of God, he facere quicquam could do nothing. 9:34 responderunt et dixerunt ei in 34. They answered and said unto him, peccatis natus es totus et tu doces nos Thou wast altogether born in sins, and et eiecerunt eum foras dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. 9:35 audivit Iesus quia eiecerunt eum 35. Jesus heard that they had cast him foras et cum invenisset eum dixit ei tu out; and when he had found him, he said credis in Filium Dei unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 9:36 respondit ille et dixit quis est 36. He answered and said, Who is he, Domine ut credam in eum Lord, that I might believe on him? 9:37 et dixit ei Iesus et vidisti eum 37. And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast et qui loquitur tecum ipse est both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 9:38 at ille ait credo Domine et 38. And he said, Lord, I believe. And procidens adoravit eum he worshipped him. 9:39 dixit ei Iesus in iudicium ego in 39. And Jesus said, For judgment I am hunc mundum veni ut qui non vident come into this world, that they which videant et qui vident caeci fiant see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. 9:40 et audierunt ex Pharisaeis qui 40. And some of the Pharisees which cum ipso erant et dixerunt ei numquid were with him heard these words, and et nos caeci sumus said unto him, Are we blind also? 9:41 dixit eis Iesus si caeci essetis 41.
