17:1 haec locutus est Iesus et 1. These words spake Jesus, and lifted
sublevatis oculis in caelum dixit Pater up his eyes to heaven, and said,
venit hora clarifica Filium tuum ut Father, the hour is come; glorify thy
Filius tuus clarificet te Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

17:2 sicut dedisti ei potestatem omnis 2. As thou hast given him power over
carnis ut omne quod dedisti ei det eis all flesh, that he should give eternal
vitam aeternam life to as many as thou hast given him.

17:3 haec est autem vita aeterna ut 3. And this is life eternal, that they
cognoscant te solum verum Deum et quem might know thee the only true God, and
misisti Iesum Christum Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

17:4 ego te clarificavi super terram 4. I have glorified thee on the earth:
opus consummavi quod dedisti mihi ut I have finished the work which thou
faciam gavest me to do.

17:5 et nunc clarifica me tu Pater 5. And now, O Father, glorify thou me
apud temet ipsum claritatem quam habui with thine own self with the glory
priusquam mundus esset apud te which I had with thee before the world
                                             was.

17:6 manifestavi nomen tuum hominibus 6. I have manifested thy name unto the
quos dedisti mihi de mundo tui erant et men which thou gavest me out of the
mihi eos dedisti et sermonem tuum world: thine they were, and thou gavest
servaverunt them me; and they have kept thy word.

17:7 nunc cognoverunt quia omnia quae 7. Now they have known that all things
dedisti mihi abs te sunt whatsoever thou hast given me are of
                                             thee.

17:8 quia verba quae dedisti mihi dedi 8. For I have given unto them the
eis et ipsi acceperunt et cognoverunt words which thou gavest me; and they
vere quia a te exivi et crediderunt have received them, and have known
quia tu me misisti surely that I came out from thee, and
they have believed that thou didst send
                                             me.

17:9 ego pro eis rogo non pro mundo 9. I pray for them: I pray not for the
rogo sed pro his quos dedisti mihi quia world, but for them which thou hast
tui sunt given me; for they are thine.

17:10 et mea omnia tua sunt et tua mea 10. And all mine are thine, and thine
sunt et clarificatus sum in eis are mine; and I am glorified in them.

17:11 et iam non sum in mundo et hii 11. And now I am no more in the world,
in mundo sunt et ego ad te venio Pater but these are in the world, and I come
sancte serva eos in nomine tuo quos to thee. Holy Father, keep through
dedisti mihi ut sint unum sicut et nos thine own name those whom thou hast
given me, that they may be one, as we
                                             are.

17:12 cum essem cum eis ego servabam 12. While I was with them in the
eos in nomine tuo quos dedisti mihi world, I kept them in thy name: those
custodivi et nemo ex his perivit nisi that thou gavest me I have kept, and
filius perditionis ut scriptura none of them is lost, but the son of
impleatur perdition; that the scripture might be
                                             fulfilled.

17:13 nunc autem ad te venio et haec 13. And now come I to thee; and these
loquor in mundo ut habeant gaudium meum things I speak in the world, that they
impletum in semet ipsis might have my joy fulfilled in
                                             themselves.

17:14 ego dedi eis sermonem tuum et 14. I have given them thy word; and
mundus odio eos habuit quia non sunt de the world hath hated them, because they
mundo sicut et ego non sum de mundo are not of the world, even as I am not
                                             of the world.

17:15 non rogo ut tollas eos de mundo 15. I pray not that thou shouldest
sed ut serves eos ex malo take them out of the world, but that
thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

17:16 de mundo non sunt sicut et ego 16. They are not of the world, even as
non sum de mundo I am not of the world.

17:17 sanctifica eos in veritate sermo 17. Sanctify them through thy truth:
tuus veritas est thy word is truth.

17:18 sicut me misisti in mundum et 18. As thou hast sent me into the
ego misi eos in mundum world, even so have I also sent them
                                             into the world.

17:19 et pro eis ego sanctifico me 19. And for their sakes I sanctify
ipsum ut sint et ipsi sanctificati in myself, that they also might be
veritate sanctified through the truth.

17:20 non pro his autem rogo tantum 20. Neither pray I for these alone,
sed et pro eis qui credituri sunt per but for them also which shall believe
verbum eorum in me                           on me through their word;

17:21 ut omnes unum sint sicut tu 21. That they all may be one; as thou,
Pater in me et ego in te ut et ipsi in Father, art in me, and I in thee, that
nobis unum sint ut mundus credat quia they also may be one in us: that the
tu me misisti world may believe that thou hast sent
                                             me.

17:22 et ego claritatem quam dedisti 22. And the glory which thou gavest me
mihi dedi eis ut sint unum sicut nos I have given them; that they may be
unum sumus one, even as we are one:

17:23 ego in eis et tu in me ut sint 23. I in them, and thou in me, that
consummati in unum et cognoscat mundus they may be made perfect in one; and
quia tu me misisti et dilexisti eos that the world may know that thou hast
sicut me dilexisti sent me, and hast loved them, as thou
                                             hast loved me.

17:24 Pater quos dedisti mihi volo ut 24. Father, I will that they also,
ubi ego sum et illi sint mecum ut whom thou hast given me, be with me
videant claritatem meam quam dedisti where I am; that they may behold my
mihi quia dilexisti me ante glory, which thou hast given me: for
constitutionem mundi thou lovedst me before the foundation
                                             of the world.

17:25 Pater iuste et mundus te non 25. O righteous Father, the world hath
cognovit ego autem te cognovi et hii not known thee: but I have known thee,
cognoverunt quia tu me misisti and these have known that thou hast
                                             sent me.

17:26 et notum feci eis nomen tuum et 26. And I have declared unto them thy
notum faciam ut dilectio qua dilexisti name, and will declare it: that the
me in ipsis sit et ego in ipsis love wherewith thou hast loved me may
be in them, and I in them.
