20:1 una autem sabbati Maria Magdalene 1. The first day of the week cometh
venit mane cum adhuc tenebrae essent ad Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet
monumentum et videt lapidem sublatum a dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the
monumento stone taken away from the sepulchre.
20:2 cucurrit ergo et venit ad Simonem 2. Then she runneth, and cometh to
Petrum et ad alium discipulum quem Simon Peter, and to the other disciple,
amabat Iesus et dicit eis tulerunt whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them,
Dominum de monumento et nescimus ubi They have taken away the LORD out of
posuerunt eum the sepulchre, and we know not where
they have laid him.
20:3 exiit ergo Petrus et ille alius 3. Peter therefore went forth, and
discipulus et venerunt ad monumentum that other disciple, and came to the
sepulchre.
20:4 currebant autem duo simul et ille 4. So they ran both together: and the
alius discipulus praecucurrit citius other disciple did outrun Peter, and
Petro et venit primus ad monumentum came first to the sepulchre.
20:5 et cum se inclinasset videt 5. And he stooping down, and looking
posita linteamina non tamen introivit in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet
went he not in.
20:6 venit ergo Simon Petrus sequens 6. Then cometh Simon Peter following
eum et introivit in monumentum et videt him, and went into the sepulchre, and
linteamina posita seeth the linen clothes lie,
20:7 et sudarium quod fuerat super 7. And the napkin, that was about his
caput eius non cum linteaminibus head, not lying with the linen clothes,
positum sed separatim involutum in unum but wrapped together in a place by
locum itself.
20:8 tunc ergo introivit et ille 8. Then went in also that other
discipulus qui venerat primus ad disciple, which came first to the
monumentum et vidit et credidit sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
20:9 nondum enim sciebant scripturam 9. For as yet they knew not the
quia oportet eum a mortuis resurgere scripture, that he must rise again from
the dead.
20:10 abierunt ergo iterum ad semet 10. Then the disciples went away again
ipsos discipuli unto their own home.
20:11 Maria autem stabat ad monumentum 11. But Mary stood without at the
foris plorans dum ergo fleret sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she
inclinavit se et prospexit in monumentum stooped down, and looked into the
sepulchre,
20:12 et vidit duos angelos in albis 12. And seeth two angels in white
sedentes unum ad caput et unum ad pedes sitting, the one at the head, and the
ubi positum fuerat corpus Iesu other at the feet, where the body of
Jesus had lain.
20:13 dicunt ei illi mulier quid 13. And they say unto her, Woman, why
ploras dicit eis quia tulerunt Dominum weepest thou? She saith unto them,
meum et nescio ubi posuerunt eum Because they have taken away my LORD,
and I know not where they have laid him.
20:14 haec cum dixisset conversa est 14. And when she had thus said, she
retrorsum et videt Iesum stantem et non turned herself back, and saw Jesus
sciebat quia Iesus est standing, and knew not that it was
Jesus.
20:15 dicit ei Iesus mulier quid 15. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why
ploras quem quaeris illa existimans weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She,
quia hortulanus esset dicit ei domine supposing him to be the gardener, saith
si tu sustulisti eum dicito mihi ubi unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him
posuisti eum et ego eum tollam hence, tell me where thou hast laid
him, and I will take him away.
20:16 dicit ei Iesus Maria conversa 16. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She
illa dicit ei rabboni quod dicitur turned herself, and saith unto him,
magister Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
20:17 dicit ei Iesus noli me tangere 17. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me
nondum enim ascendi ad Patrem meum vade not; for I am not yet ascended to my
autem ad fratres meos et dic eis Father: but go to my brethren, and say
ascendo ad Patrem meum et Patrem unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and
vestrum et Deum meum et Deum vestrum your Father; and to my God, and your
God.
20:18 venit Maria Magdalene adnuntians 18. Mary Magdalene came and told the
discipulis quia vidi Dominum et haec disciples that she had seen the LORD,
dixit mihi and that he had spoken these things
unto her.
20:19 cum esset ergo sero die illo una 19. Then the same day at evening,
sabbatorum et fores essent clausae ubi being the first day of the week, when
erant discipuli propter metum Iudaeorum the doors were shut where the disciples
venit Iesus et stetit in medio et dicit were assembled for fear of the Jews,
eis pax vobis came Jesus and stood in the midst, and
saith unto them, Peace be unto you.
20:20 et hoc cum dixisset ostendit eis 20. And when he had so said, he shewed
manus et latus gavisi sunt ergo unto them his hands and his side. Then
discipuli viso Domino were the disciples glad, when they saw
the LORD.
20:21 dixit ergo eis iterum pax vobis 21. Then said Jesus to them again,
sicut misit me Pater et ego mitto vos Peace be unto you: as my Father hath
sent me, even so send I you.
20:22 hoc cum dixisset insuflavit et 22. And when he had said this, he
dicit eis accipite Spiritum Sanctum breathed on them, and saith unto them,
Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
20:23 quorum remiseritis peccata 23. Whose soever sins ye remit, they
remittuntur eis quorum retinueritis are remitted unto them; and whose
detenta sunt soever sins ye retain, they are
retained.
20:24 Thomas autem unus ex duodecim 24. But Thomas, one of the twelve,
qui dicitur Didymus non erat cum eis called Didymus, was not with them when
quando venit Iesus Jesus came.
20:25 dixerunt ergo ei alii discipuli 25. The other disciples therefore said
vidimus Dominum ille autem dixit eis unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he
nisi videro in manibus eius figuram said unto them, Except I shall see in
clavorum et mittam digitum meum in his hands the print of the nails, and
locum clavorum et mittam manum meam in put my finger into the print of the
latus eius non credam nails, and thrust my hand into his
side, I will not believe.
20:26 et post dies octo iterum erant 26. And after eight days again his
discipuli eius intus et Thomas cum eis disciples were within, and Thomas with
venit Iesus ianuis clausis et stetit in them: then came Jesus, the doors being
medio et dixit pax vobis shut, and stood in the midst, and said,
Peace be unto you.
20:27 deinde dicit Thomae infer 27. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach
digitum tuum huc et vide manus meas et hither thy finger, and behold my hands;
adfer manum tuam et mitte in latus meum and reach hither thy hand, and thrust
et noli esse incredulus sed fidelis it into my side: and be not faithless,
but believing.
20:28 respondit Thomas et dixit ei 28. And Thomas answered and said unto
Dominus meus et Deus meus him, My LORD and my God.
20:29 dicit ei Iesus quia vidisti me 29. Jesus saith unto him, Thomas,
credidisti beati qui non viderunt et because thou hast seen me, thou hast
crediderunt believed: blessed are they that have
not seen, and yet have believed.
20:30 multa quidem et alia signa fecit 30. And many other signs truly did
Iesus in conspectu discipulorum suorum Jesus in the presence of his disciples,
quae non sunt scripta in libro hoc which are not written in this book:
20:31 haec autem scripta sunt ut 31. But these are written, that ye
credatis quia Iesus est Christus Filius might believe that Jesus is the Christ,
Dei et ut credentes vitam habeatis in the Son of God; and that believing ye
nomine eius might have life through his name.
