2:1  angelo Ephesi ecclesiae scribe          1.  Unto the angel of the church of
haec dicit qui tenet septem stellas in       Ephesus write; These things saith he
dextera sua qui ambulat in medio septem      that holdeth the seven stars in his
candelabrorum aureorum                       right hand, who walketh in the midst of
                                             the seven golden candlesticks;

2:2  scio opera tua et laborem et            2.  I know thy works, and thy labour,
patientiam tuam et quia non potes            and thy patience, and how thou canst
sustinere malos et temptasti eos qui se      not bear them which are evil: and thou
dicunt apostolos et non sunt et              hast tried them which say they are
invenisti eos mendaces                       apostles, and are not, and hast found
                                             them liars:

2:3  et patientiam habes et sustinuisti      3.  And hast borne, and hast patience,
propter nomen meum et non defecisti          and for my name's sake hast laboured,
                                             and hast not fainted.

2:4  sed habeo adversus te quod              4.  Nevertheless I have somewhat
caritatem tuam primam reliquisti             against thee, because thou hast left
                                             thy first love.

2:5  memor esto itaque unde excideris        5.  Remember therefore from whence thou
et age paenitentiam et prima opera fac       art fallen, and repent, and do the
sin autem venio tibi et movebo               first works; or else I will come unto
candelabrum tuum de loco suo nisi            thee quickly, and will remove thy
paenitentiam egeris                          candlestick out of his place, except
                                             thou repent.

2:6  sed hoc habes quia odisti facta         6.  But this thou hast, that thou
Nicolaitarum quae et ego odi                 hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes,
                                             which I also hate.

2:7  qui habet aurem audiat quid             7.  He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis vincenti dabo       what the Spirit saith unto the
ei edere de ligno vitae quod est in          churches; To him that overcometh will I
paradiso Dei mei                             give to eat of the tree of life, which
                                             is in the midst of the paradise of God.

2:8  et angelo Zmyrnae ecclesiae scribe      8.  And unto the angel of the church in
haec dicit primus et novissimus qui          Smyrna write; These things saith the
fuit mortuus et vivit                        first and the last, which was dead, and
                                             is alive;

2:9  scio tribulationem tuam et              9.  I know thy works, and tribulation,
paupertatem tuam sed dives es et             and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I
blasphemaris ab his qui se dicunt            know the blasphemy of them which say
Iudaeos esse et non sunt sed sunt            they are Jews, and are not, but are the
synagoga Satanae                             synagogue of Satan.

2:10  nihil horum timeas quae passurus       10.  Fear none of those things which
es ecce missurus est diabolus ex vobis       thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil
in carcerem ut temptemini et habebitis       shall cast some of you into prison,
tribulationem diebus decem esto fidelis      that ye may be tried; and ye shall have
usque ad mortem et dabo tibi coronam         tribulation ten days: be thou faithful
vitae                                        unto death, and I will give thee a
                                             crown of life.

2:11  qui habet aurem audiat quid            11.  He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis qui vicerit         what the Spirit saith unto the
non laedetur a morte secunda                 churches; He that overcometh shall not
                                             be hurt of the second death.

2:12  et angelo Pergami ecclesiae            12.  And to the angel of the church in
scribe haec dicit qui habet rompheam         Pergamos write; These things saith he
utraque parte acutam                         which hath the sharp sword with two
                                             edges;

2:13  scio ubi habitas ubi sedes est         13.  I know thy works, and where thou
Satanae et tenes nomen meum et non           dwellest, even where Satan's seat is:
negasti fidem meam et in diebus Antipas      and thou holdest fast my name, and hast
testis meus fidelis qui occisus est          not denied my faith, even in those days
apud vos ubi Satanas habitat                 wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr,
                                             who was slain among you, where Satan
                                             dwelleth.

2:14  sed habeo adversus te pauca quia       14.  But I have a few things against
habes illic tenentes doctrinam Balaam        thee, because thou hast there them that
qui docebat Balac mittere scandalum          hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught
coram filiis Israhel edere et fornicari      Balac to cast a stumblingblock before
                                             the children of Israel, to eat things
                                             sacrificed unto idols, and to commit
                                             fornication.

2:15  ita habes et tu tenentes               15.  So hast thou also them that hold
doctrinam Nicolaitarum                       the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which
                                             thing I hate.

2:16  similiter paenitentiam age si quo      16.  Repent; or else I will come unto
minus venio tibi cito et pugnabo cum         thee quickly, and will fight against
illis in gladio oris mei                     them with the sword of my mouth.

2:17  qui habet aurem audiat quid            17.  He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis vincenti dabo       what the Spirit saith unto the
ei manna absconditum et dabo illi            churches; To him that overcometh will I
calculum candidum et in calculo nomen        give to eat of the hidden manna, and
novum scriptum quod nemo scit nisi qui       will give him a white stone, and in the
accipit                                      stone a new name written, which no man
                                             knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

2:18  et angelo Thyatirae ecclesiae          18.  And unto the angel of the church
scribe haec dicit Filius Dei qui habet       in Thyatira write; These things saith
oculos ut flammam ignis et pedes eius        the Son of God, who hath his eyes like
similes orichalco                            unto a flame of fire, and his feet are
                                             like fine brass;

2:19  novi opera tua et caritatem et         19.  I know thy works, and charity, and
fidem et ministerium et patientiam tuam      service, and faith, and thy patience,
et opera tua novissima plura prioribus       and thy works; and the last to be more
                                             than the first.

2:20  sed habeo adversus te quia             20.  Notwithstanding I have a few
permittis mulierem Hiezabel quae se          things against thee, because thou
dicit propheten docere et seducere           sufferest that woman Jezebel, which
servos meos fornicari et manducare de        calleth herself a prophetess, to teach
idolothytis                                  and to seduce my servants to commit
                                             fornication, and to eat things
                                             sacrificed unto idols.

2:21  et dedi illi tempus ut                 21.  And I gave her space to repent of
paenitentiam ageret et non vult              her fornication; and she repented not.
paeniteri a fornicatione sua

2:22  ecce mitto eam in lectum et qui        22.  Behold, I will cast her into a
moechantur cum ea in tribulationem           bed, and them that commit adultery with
maximam nisi paenitentiam egerint ab         her into great tribulation, except they
operibus eius                                repent of their deeds.

2:23  et filios eius interficiam in          23.  And I will kill her children with
morte et scient omnes ecclesiae quia         death; and all the churches shall know
ego sum scrutans renes et corda et dabo      that I am he which searcheth the reins
unicuique vestrum secundum opera vestra      and hearts: and I will give unto every
                                             one of you according to your works.

2:24  vobis autem dico ceteris qui           24.  But unto you I say, and unto the
Thyatirae estis quicumque non habent         rest in Thyatira, as many as have not
doctrinam hanc qui non cognoverunt           this doctrine, and which have not known
altitudines Satanae quemadmodum dicunt       the depths of Satan, as they speak; I
non mittam super vos aliud pondus            will put upon you none other burden.

2:25  tamen id quod habetis tenete           25.  But that which ye have already
donec veniam                                 hold fast till I come.

2:26  et qui vicerit et qui custodierit      26.  And he that overcometh, and
usque in finem opera mea dabo illi           keepeth my works unto the end, to him
potestatem super gentes                      will I give power over the nations:

2:27  et reget illas in virga ferrea         27.  And he shall rule them with a rod
tamquam vas figuli confringentur             of iron; as the vessels of a potter
                                             shall they be broken to shivers: even
                                             as I received of my Father.

2:28  sicut et ego accepi a Patre meo        28.  And I will give him the morning
et dabo illi stellam matutinam               star.

2:29  qui habet aurem audiat quid            29.  He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis                     what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
