21:1 et vidi caelum novum et terram 1. And I saw a new heaven and a new
novam primum enim caelum et prima terra earth: for the first heaven and the
abiit et mare iam non est first earth were passed away; and there
was no more sea.
21:2 et civitatem sanctam Hierusalem 2. And I John saw the holy city, new
novam vidi descendentem de caelo a Deo Jerusalem, coming down from God out of
paratam sicut sponsam ornatam viro suo heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for
her husband.
21:3 et audivi vocem magnam de throno 3. And I heard a great voice out of
dicentem ecce tabernaculum Dei cum heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle
hominibus et habitabit cum eis et ipsi of God is with men, and he will dwell
populus eius erunt et ipse Deus cum eis with them, and they shall be his
erit eorum Deus people, and God himself shall be with
them, and be their God.
21:4 et absterget Deus omnem lacrimam 4. And God shall wipe away all tears
ab oculis eorum et mors ultra non erit from their eyes; and there shall be no
neque luctus neque clamor neque dolor more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
erit ultra quae prima abierunt neither shall there be any more pain:
for the former things are passed away.
21:5 et dixit qui sedebat in throno 5. And he that sat upon the throne
ecce nova facio omnia et dicit scribe said, Behold, I make all things new.
quia haec verba fidelissima sunt et vera And he said unto me, Write: for these
words are true and faithful.
21:6 et dixit mihi factum est ego sum 6. And he said unto me, It is done. I
Alpha et Omega initium et finis ego am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and
sitienti dabo de fonte aquae vivae the end. I will give unto him that is
gratis athirst of the fountain of the water of
life freely.
21:7 qui vicerit possidebit haec et 7. He that overcometh shall inherit

21:8 timidis autem et incredulis et 8. But the fearful, and unbelieving,
execratis et homicidis et and the abominable, and murderers, and
fornicatoribus et veneficis et whoremongers, and sorcerers, and
idolatris et omnibus mendacibus pars idolaters, and all liars, shall have
illorum erit in stagno ardenti igne et their part in the lake which burneth
sulphure quod est mors secunda with fire and brimstone: which is the
second death.
21:9 et venit unus de septem angelis 9. And there came unto me one of the
habentibus fialas plenas septem plagis seven angels which had the seven vials
novissimis et locutus est mecum dicens full of the seven last plagues, and
veni ostendam tibi sponsam uxorem agni talked with me, saying, Come hither, I
will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's
wife.
21:10 et sustulit me in spiritu in 10. And he carried me away in the
montem magnum et altum et ostendit mihi spirit to a great and high mountain,
civitatem sanctam Hierusalem and shewed me that great city, the holy
descendentem de caelo a Deo Jerusalem, descending out of heaven
from God,
21:11 habentem claritatem Dei lumen 11. Having the glory of God: and her
eius simile lapidi pretioso tamquam light was like unto a stone most
lapidi iaspidis sicut cristallum precious, even like a jasper stone,
clear as crystal;
21:12 et habebat murum magnum et altum 12. And had a wall great and high, and
habens portas duodecim et in portis had twelve gates, and at the gates
angelos duodecim et nomina inscripta twelve angels, and names written
quae sunt nomina duodecim tribuum thereon, which are the names of the
filiorum Israhel twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
21:13 ab oriente portae tres et ab 13. On the east three gates; on the
aquilone portae tres et ab austro north three gates; on the south three
portae tres et ab occasu portae tres gates; and on the west three gates.
21:14 et murus civitatis habens 14. And the wall of the city had
fundamenta duodecim et in ipsis twelve foundations, and in them the
duodecim nomina duodecim apostolorum names of the twelve apostles of the
agni Lamb.
21:15 et qui loquebatur mecum habebat 15. And he that talked with me had a
mensuram harundinem auream ut metiretur golden reed to measure the city, and
civitatem et portas eius et murum the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
21:16 et civitas in quadro posita est 16. And the city lieth foursquare, and
et longitudo eius tanta est quanta et the length is as large as the breadth:
latitudo et mensus est civitatem de and he measured the city with the reed,
harundine per stadia duodecim milia twelve thousand furlongs. The length
longitudo et latitudo et altitudo eius and the breadth and the height of it
aequalia sunt are equal.
21:17 et mensus est murus eius centum 17. And he measured the wall thereof,
quadraginta quattuor cubitorum mensura an hundred and forty and four cubits,
hominis quae est angeli according to the measure of a man, that
is, of the angel.
21:18 et erat structura muri eius ex 18. And the building of the wall of it
lapide iaspide ipsa vero civitas auro was of jasper: and the city was pure
mundo simile vitro mundo gold, like unto clear glass.
21:19 fundamenta muri civitatis omni 19. And the foundations of the wall of
lapide pretioso ornata fundamentum the city were garnished with all manner
primum iaspis secundus sapphyrus of precious stones. The first
tertius carcedonius quartus zmaragdus foundation was jasper; the second,
sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the
fourth, an emerald;
21:20 quintus sardonix sextus sardinus 20. The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth,
septimus chrysolitus octavus berillus sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the
nonus topazius decimus chrysoprassus eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the
undecimus hyacinthus duodecimus tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a
amethistus jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21:21 et duodecim portae duodecim 21. And the twelve gates were twelve
margaritae sunt per singulas et pearls: every several gate was of one
singulae portae erant ex singulis pearl: and the street of the city was
margaritis et platea civitatis aurum pure gold, as it were transparent glass.

21:22 et templum non vidi in ea 22. And I saw no temple therein: for
Dominus enim Deus omnipotens templum the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are

21:23 et civitas non eget sole neque 23. And the city had no need of the
luna ut luceant in ea nam claritas Dei sun, neither of the moon, to shine in

21:24 et ambulabunt gentes per lumen 24. And the nations of them which are
eius et reges terrae adferent gloriam saved shall walk in the light of it:
suam et honorem in illam and the kings of the earth do bring
their glory and honour into it.
21:25 et portae eius non cludentur per 25. And the gates of it shall not be
diem nox enim non erit illic shut at all by day: for there shall be
no night there.
21:26 et adferent gloriam et honorem 26. And they shall bring the glory and
gentium in illam honour of the nations into it.
21:27 nec intrabit in ea aliquid 27. And there shall in no wise enter
coinquinatum et faciens abominationem into it any thing that defileth,
et mendacium nisi qui scripti sunt in neither whatsoever worketh abomination,
libro vitae agni or maketh a lie: but they which are
written in the Lamb's book of life.
