3:1 et angelo ecclesiae Sardis scribe 1. And unto the angel of the church in
haec dicit qui habet septem spiritus Sardis write; These things saith he
Dei et septem stellas scio opera tua that hath the seven Spirits of God, and
quia nomen habes quod vivas et mortuus the seven stars; I know thy works, that
es thou hast a name that thou livest, and
                                             art dead.

3:2 esto vigilans et confirma cetera 2. Be watchful, and strengthen the
quae moritura erant non enim invenio things which remain, that are ready to
opera tua plena coram Deo meo die: for I have not found thy works
                                             perfect before God.

3:3 in mente ergo habe qualiter 3. Remember therefore how thou hast
acceperis et audieris et serva et received and heard, and hold fast, and
paenitentiam age si ergo non repent. If therefore thou shalt not
vigilaveris veniam tamquam fur et watch, I will come on thee as a thief,
nescies qua hora veniam ad te and thou shalt not know what hour I
                                             will come upon thee.

3:4 sed habes pauca nomina in Sardis 4. Thou hast a few names even in
qui non inquinaverunt vestimenta sua et Sardis which have not defiled their

sunt in white: for they are worthy.

3:5 qui vicerit sic vestietur 5. He that overcometh, the same shall
vestimentis albis et non delebo nomen be clothed in white raiment; and I will
eius de libro vitae et confitebor nomen not blot out his name out of the book
eius coram Patre meo et coram angelis of life, but I will confess his name
eius before my Father, and before his angels.

3:6 qui habet aurem audiat quid 6. He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

3:7 et angelo Philadelphiae ecclesiae 7. And to the angel of the church in
scribe haec dicit sanctus et verus qui Philadelphia write; These things saith
habet clavem David qui aperit et nemo he that is holy, he that is true, he
cludit et cludit et nemo aperit that hath the key of David, he that
openeth, and no man shutteth; and
                                             shutteth, and no man openeth;

3:8 scio opera tua ecce dedi coram te 8. I know thy works: behold, I have
ostium apertum quod nemo potest cludere set before thee an open door, and no
quia modicam habes virtutem et servasti man can shut it: for thou hast a little
verbum meum et non negasti nomen meum strength, and hast kept my word, and
                                             hast not denied my name.

3:9 ecce dabo de synagoga Satanae qui 9. Behold, I will make them of the
dicunt se Iudaeos esse et non sunt sed synagogue of Satan, which say they are
mentiuntur ecce faciam illos ut veniant Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold,
et adorent ante pedes tuos et scient I will make them to come and worship
quia ego dilexi te before thy feet, and to know that I
                                             have loved thee.

3:10 quoniam servasti verbum 10. Because thou hast kept the word of
patientiae meae et ego te servabo ab my patience, I also will keep thee from
hora temptationis quae ventura est in the hour of temptation, which shall
orbem universum temptare habitantes in come upon all the world, to try them
terra that dwell upon the earth.

3:11 venio cito tene quod habes ut 11. Behold, I come quickly: hold that
nemo accipiat coronam tuam fast which thou hast, that no man take
                                             thy crown.

3:12 qui vicerit faciam illum columnam 12. Him that overcometh will I make a
in templo Dei mei et foras non pillar in the temple of my God, and he
egredietur amplius et scribam super eum shall go no more out: and I will write
nomen Dei mei et nomen civitatis Dei upon him the name of my God, and the
mei novae Hierusalem quae descendit de name of the city of my God, which is
caelo a Deo meo et nomen meum novum new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of
heaven from my God: and I will write
                                             upon him my new name.

3:13 qui habet aurem audiat quid 13. He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

3:14 et angelo Laodiciae ecclesiae 14. And unto the angel of the church
scribe haec dicit Amen testis fidelis of the Laodiceans write; These things
et verus qui est principium creaturae saith the Amen, the faithful and true
Dei witness, the beginning of the creation
                                             of God;

3:15 scio opera tua quia neque 15. I know thy works, that thou art
frigidus es neque calidus utinam neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert
frigidus esses aut calidus cold or hot.

3:16 sed quia tepidus es et nec 16. So then because thou art lukewarm,
frigidus nec calidus incipiam te and neither cold nor hot, I will spue
evomere ex ore meo thee out of my mouth.

3:17 quia dicis quod dives sum et 17. Because thou sayest, I am rich,
locupletatus et nullius egeo et nescis and increased with goods, and have need
quia tu es miser et miserabilis et of nothing; and knowest not that thou
pauper et caecus et nudus art wretched, and miserable, and poor,
                                             and blind, and naked:

3:18 suadeo tibi emere a me aurum 18. I counsel thee to buy of me gold
ignitum probatum ut locuples fias et tried in the fire, that thou mayest be
vestimentis albis induaris et non rich; and white raiment, that thou
appareat confusio nuditatis tuae et mayest be clothed, and that the shame
collyrio inungue oculos tuos ut videas of thy nakedness do not appear; and
anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that
                                             thou mayest see.

3:19 ego quos amo arguo et castigo 19. As many as I love, I rebuke and
aemulare ergo et paenitentiam age chasten: be zealous therefore, and
                                             repent.

3:20 ecce sto ad ostium et pulso si 20. Behold, I stand at the door, and
quis audierit vocem meam et aperuerit knock: if any man hear my voice, and
ianuam introibo ad illum et cenabo cum open the door, I will come in to him,
illo et ipse mecum and will sup with him, and he with me.

3:21 qui vicerit dabo ei sedere mecum 21. To him that overcometh will I
in throno meo sicut et ego vici et sedi grant to sit with me in my throne, even
cum Patre meo in throno eius as I also overcame, and am set down
with my Father in his throne.

3:22 qui habet aurem audiat quid 22. He that hath an ear, let him hear
Spiritus dicat ecclesiis what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
