9:1 et quintus angelus tuba cecinit et 1. And the fifth angel sounded, and I
vidi stellam de caelo cecidisse in saw a star fall from heaven unto the
terram et data est illi clavis putei earth: and to him was given the key of
abyssi the bottomless pit.
9:2 et aperuit puteum abyssi et 2. And he opened the bottomless pit;
ascendit fumus putei sicut fumus and there arose a smoke out of the pit,
fornacis magnae et obscuratus est sol as the smoke of a great furnace; and
et aer de fumo putei the sun and the air were darkened by
reason of the smoke of the pit.
9:3 et de fumo exierunt lucustae in 3. And there came out of the smoke
terram et data est illis potestas sicut locusts upon the earth: and unto them
habent potestatem scorpiones terrae was given power, as the scorpions of
the earth have power.
9:4 et praeceptum est illis ne 4. And it was commanded them that they
laederent faenum terrae neque omne should not hurt the grass of the earth,
viride neque omnem arborem nisi tantum neither any green thing, neither any
homines qui non habent signum Dei in tree; but only those men which have not
frontibus the seal of God in their foreheads.
9:5 et datum est illis ne occiderent 5. And to them it was given that they
eos sed ut cruciarentur mensibus should not kill them, but that they
quinque et cruciatus eorum ut cruciatus should be tormented five months: and
scorpii cum percutit hominem their torment was as the torment of a
scorpion, when he striketh a man.
9:6 et in diebus illis quaerent 6. And in those days shall men seek
homines mortem et non invenient eam et death, and shall not find it; and shall
desiderabunt mori et fugiet mors ab desire to die, and death shall flee
ipsis from them.
9:7 et similitudines lucustarum 7. And the shapes of the locusts were
similes equis paratis in proelium et like unto horses prepared unto battle;
super capita earum tamquam coronae and on their heads were as it were
similes auro et facies earum sicut crowns like gold, and their faces were
facies hominum as the faces of men.
9:8 et habebant capillos sicut 8. And they had hair as the hair of
capillos mulierum et dentes earum sicut women, and their teeth were as the
leonum erant teeth of lions.
9:9 et habebant loricas sicut loricas 9. And they had breastplates, as it
ferreas et vox alarum earum sicut vox were breastplates of iron; and the
curruum equorum multorum currentium in sound of their wings was as the sound
bellum of chariots of many horses running to
battle.
9:10 et habebant caudas similes 10. And they had tails like unto
scorpionum et aculei in caudis earum scorpions, and there were stings in
potestas earum nocere hominibus their tails: and their power was to
mensibus quinque hurt men five months.
9:11 et habebant super se regem 11. And they had a king over them,
angelum abyssi cui nomen hebraice which is the angel of the bottomless

9:12 vae unum abiit ecce veniunt adhuc 12. One woe is past; and, behold,
duo vae post haec there come two woes more hereafter.
9:13 et sextus angelus tuba cecinit et 13. And the sixth angel sounded, and I
audivi vocem unum ex cornibus altaris heard a voice from the four horns of
aurei quod est ante oculos Dei the golden altar which is before God,
9:14 dicentem sexto angelo qui habebat 14. Saying to the sixth angel which
tubam solve quattuor angelos qui had the trumpet, Loose the four angels
alligati sunt in flumine magno Eufrate which are bound in the great river
Euphrates.
9:15 et soluti sunt quattuor angeli 15. And the four angels were loosed,
qui parati erant in horam et diem et which were prepared for an hour, and a
mensem et annum ut occiderent tertiam day, and a month, and a year, for to
partem hominum slay the third part of men.
9:16 et numerus equestris exercitus 16. And the number of the army of the
vicies milies dena milia audivi numerum horsemen were two hundred thousand
eorum thousand: and I heard the number of
them.
9:17 et ita vidi equos in visione et 17. And thus I saw the horses in the
qui sedebant super eos habentes loricas vision, and them that sat on them,
igneas et hyacinthinas et sulphureas et having breastplates of fire, and of
capita equorum erant tamquam capita jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads
leonum et de ore ipsorum procedit ignis of the horses were as the heads of
et fumus et sulphur lions; and out of their mouths issued
fire and smoke and brimstone.
9:18 ab his tribus plagis occisa est 18. By these three was the third part
tertia pars hominum de igne et fumo et of men killed, by the fire, and by the
sulphure qui procedebat ex ore ipsorum smoke, and by the brimstone, which
issued out of their mouths.
9:19 potestas enim equorum in ore 19. For their power is in their mouth,
eorum est et in caudis eorum nam caudae and in their tails: for their tails
illorum similes serpentibus habentes were like unto serpents, and had heads,
capita et in his nocent and with them they do hurt.
9:20 et ceteri homines qui non sunt 20. And the rest of the men which were
occisi in his plagis neque paenitentiam not killed by these plagues yet
egerunt de operibus manuum suarum ut repented not of the works of their
non adorarent daemonia et simulacra hands, that they should not worship
aurea et argentea et aerea et lapidea devils, and idols of gold, and silver,
et lignea quae neque videre possunt and brass, and stone, and of wood:
neque audire neque ambulare which neither can see, nor hear, nor
walk:
9:21 et non egerunt paenitentiam ab 21. Neither repented they of their
homicidiis suis neque a veneficiis suis murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of
