agnos inter lupos forth as lambs among wolves.

10:4 nolite portare sacculum neque 4. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor

10:15 et tu Capharnaum usque in caelum 15. And thou, Capernaum, which art
exaltata usque ad infernum demergeris exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down
                                             to hell.

10:16  qui vos audit me audit et qui         16.  He that heareth you heareth me;

                                             that sent me.

10:17 reversi sunt autem septuaginta 17. And the seventy returned again
duo cum gaudio dicentes Domine etiam with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils
daemonia subiciuntur nobis in nomine tuo are subject unto us through thy name.

10:18 et ait illis videbam Satanan 18. And he said unto them, I beheld
sicut fulgur de caelo cadentem Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

10:19 ecce dedi vobis potestatem 19. Behold, I give unto you power to

nihil vobis nocebit nothing shall by any means hurt you.

10:20 verumtamen in hoc nolite gaudere 20. Notwithstanding in this rejoice
quia spiritus vobis subiciuntur gaudete not, that the spirits are subject unto

so it seemed good in thy sight.

10:22 omnia mihi tradita sunt a Patre 22. All things are delivered to me of

10:23 et conversus ad discipulos suos 23. And he turned him unto his
dixit beati oculi qui vident quae disciples, and said privately, Blessed

                                             ye see:

10:24 dico enim vobis quod multi 24. For I tell you, that many prophets
prophetae et reges voluerunt videre and kings have desired to see those
quae vos videtis et non viderunt et things which ye see, and have not seen
audire quae auditis et non audierunt them; and to hear those things which ye
hear, and have not heard them.

10:25 et ecce quidam legis peritus 25. And, behold, a certain lawyer
surrexit temptans illum et dicens stood up, and tempted him, saying,
magister quid faciendo vitam aeternam Master, what shall I do to inherit
possidebo eternal life?

10:26 at ille dixit ad eum in lege 26. He said unto him, What is written
quid scriptum est quomodo legis in the law? how readest thou?

10:27 ille respondens dixit diliges 27. And he answering said, Thou shalt
Dominum Deum tuum ex toto corde tuo et love the Lord thy God with all thy
ex tota anima tua et ex omnibus viribus heart, and with all thy soul, and with
tuis et ex omni mente tua et proximum all thy strength, and with all thy
tuum sicut te ipsum mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

10:28 dixitque illi recte respondisti 28. And he said unto him, Thou hast
hoc fac et vives answered right: this do, and thou shalt
                                             live.

10:29 ille autem volens iustificare se 29. But he, willing to justify
ipsum dixit ad Iesum et quis est meus himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my
proximus neighbour?

10:30 suscipiens autem Iesus dixit 30. And Jesus answering said, A
homo quidam descendebat ab Hierusalem certain man went down from Jerusalem to
in Hiericho et incidit in latrones qui Jericho, and fell among thieves, which
etiam despoliaverunt eum et plagis stripped him of his raiment, and
inpositis abierunt semivivo relicto wounded him, and departed, leaving him
                                             half dead.

10:31 accidit autem ut sacerdos quidam 31. And by chance there came down a
descenderet eadem via et viso illo certain priest that way: and when he
praeterivit saw him, he passed by on the other side.

10:32 similiter et Levita cum esset 32. And likewise a Levite, when he was
secus locum et videret eum pertransiit at the place, came and looked on him,
and passed by on the other side.

10:33 Samaritanus autem quidam iter 33. But a certain Samaritan, as he
faciens venit secus eum et videns eum journeyed, came where he was: and when
misericordia motus est he saw him, he had compassion on him,

10:34 et adpropians alligavit vulnera 34. And went to him, and bound up his
eius infundens oleum et vinum et wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and
inponens illum in iumentum suum duxit set him on his own beast, and brought
in stabulum et curam eius egit him to an inn, and took care of him.

10:35 et altera die protulit duos 35. And on the morrow when he
denarios et dedit stabulario et ait departed, he took out two pence, and
curam illius habe et quodcumque gave them to the host, and said unto
supererogaveris ego cum rediero reddam him, Take care of him; and whatsoever
tibi thou spendest more, when I come again,
                                             I will repay thee.

10:36 quis horum trium videtur tibi 36. Which now of these three, thinkest
proximus fuisse illi qui incidit in thou, was neighbour unto him that fell
latrones among the thieves?

10:37 at ille dixit qui fecit 37. And he said, He that shewed mercy
misericordiam in illum et ait illi on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go,
Iesus vade et tu fac similiter and do thou likewise.

10:38 factum est autem dum irent et 38. Now it came to pass, as they went,
ipse intravit in quoddam castellum et that he entered into a certain village:
mulier quaedam Martha nomine excepit and a certain woman named Martha
illum in domum suam received him into her house.

10:39 et huic erat soror nomine Maria 39. And she had a sister called Mary,
quae etiam sedens secus pedes Domini which also sat at Jesus' feet, and
audiebat verbum illius heard his word.

10:40 Martha autem satagebat circa 40. But Martha was cumbered about much
frequens ministerium quae stetit et ait serving, and came to him, and said,
Domine non est tibi curae quod soror Lord, dost thou not care that my sister
mea reliquit me solam ministrare dic hath left me to serve alone? bid her
ergo illi ut me adiuvet therefore that she help me.

10:41 et respondens dixit illi Dominus 41. And Jesus answered and said unto
Martha Martha sollicita es et turbaris her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful
erga plurima and troubled about many things:

10:42 porro unum est necessarium Maria 42. But one thing is needful: and Mary
optimam partem elegit quae non hath chosen that good part, which shall
auferetur ab ea not be taken away from her.
