And it came to pass, as they were consternatae essent de isto ecce duo much perplexed thereabout, behold, two viri steterunt secus illas in veste men stood by them in shining garments: fulgenti 24:5 cum timerent autem et declinarent 5. And as they were afraid, and bowed vultum in terram dixerunt ad illas quid down their faces to the earth, they quaeritis viventem cum mortuis said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? 24:6 non est hic sed surrexit 6. He is not here, but is risen: recordamini qualiter locutus est vobis remember how he spake unto you when he cum adhuc in Galilaea esset was yet in Galilee, 24:7 dicens quia oportet Filium 7. Saying, The Son of man must be hominis tradi in manus hominum delivered into the hands of sinful men, peccatorum et crucifigi et die tertia and be crucified, and the third day resurgere rise again. 24:8 et recordatae sunt verborum eius 8. And they remembered his words, 24:9 et regressae a monumento 9. And returned from the sepulchre, nuntiaverunt haec omnia illis undecim and told all these things unto the et ceteris omnibus eleven, and to all the rest. 24:10 erat autem Maria Magdalene et 10. And their words seemed to them as deliramentum verba ista et non idle tales, and they believed them not. credebant illis 24:12 Petrus autem surgens cucurrit ad 12. Then arose Peter, and ran unto the monumentum et procumbens videt sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld linteamina sola posita et abiit secum the linen clothes laid by themselves, mirans quod factum fuerat and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. 24:13 et ecce duo ex illis ibant ipsa 13. And, behold, two of them went that die in castellum quod erat in spatio same day to a village called Emmaus, stadiorum sexaginta ab Hierusalem which was from Jerusalem about nomine Emmaus threescore furlongs. 24:14 et ipsi loquebantur ad invicem 14. And they talked together of all de his omnibus quae acciderant these things which had happened. 24:15 et factum est dum fabularentur 15. And it came to pass, that, while et secum quaererent et ipse Iesus they communed together and reasoned, adpropinquans ibat cum illis Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. 24:16 oculi autem illorum tenebantur 16. But their eyes were holden that ne eum agnoscerent they should not know him. 24:17 et ait ad illos qui sunt hii 17. And he said unto them, What manner sermones quos confertis ad invicem of communications are these that ye ambulantes et estis tristes have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? 24:18 et respondens unus cui nomen 18. And the one of them, whose name Cleopas dixit ei tu solus peregrinus es was Cleopas, answering said unto him, in Hierusalem et non cognovisti quae Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, facta sunt in illa his diebus and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? 24:19 quibus ille dixit quae et 19. And he said unto them, What dixerunt de Iesu Nazareno qui fuit vir things? And they said unto him, propheta potens in opere et sermone Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was coram Deo et omni populo a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: 24:20 et quomodo eum tradiderunt summi 20. And how the chief priests and our sacerdotum et principes nostri in rulers delivered him to be condemned to damnationem mortis et crucifixerunt eum death, and have crucified him. 24:21 nos autem sperabamus quia ipse 21. But we trusted that it had been he esset redempturus Israhel et nunc super which should have redeemed Israel: and haec omnia tertia dies hodie quod haec beside all this, to day is the third facta sunt day since these things were done. 24:22 sed et mulieres quaedam ex 22. Yea, and certain women also of our nostris terruerunt nos quae ante lucem company made us astonished, which were fuerunt ad monumentum early at the sepulchre; 24:23 et non invento corpore eius 23. And when they found not his body, venerunt dicentes se etiam visionem they came, saying, that they had also angelorum vidisse qui dicunt eum vivere seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. 24:24 et abierunt quidam ex nostris ad 24. And certain of them which were monumentum et ita invenerunt sicut with us went to the sepulchre, and mulieres dixerunt ipsum vero non found it even so as the women had said: viderunt but him they saw not. 24:25 et ipse dixit ad eos o stulti et 25. Then he said unto them, O fools, tardi corde ad credendum in omnibus and slow of heart to believe all that quae locuti sunt prophetae the prophets have spoken: 24:26 nonne haec oportuit pati 26. Ought not Christ to have suffered Christum et ita intrare in gloriam suam these things, and to enter into his glory? 24:27 et incipiens a Mose et omnibus 27. And beginning at Moses and all the prophetis interpretabatur illis in prophets, he expounded unto them in all omnibus scripturis quae de ipso erant the scriptures the things concerning himself. 24:28 et adpropinquaverunt castello 28. And they drew nigh unto the quo ibant et ipse se finxit longius ire village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. 24:29 et coegerunt illum dicentes mane 29. But they constrained him, saying, nobiscum quoniam advesperascit et Abide with us: for it is toward inclinata est iam dies et intravit cum evening, and the day is far spent. And illis he went in to tarry with them. 24:30 et factum est dum recumberet cum 30. And it came to pass, as he sat at illis accepit panem et benedixit ac meat with them, he took bread, and fregit et porrigebat illis blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. 24:31 et aperti sunt oculi eorum et 31. And their eyes were opened, and cognoverunt eum et ipse evanuit ex they knew him; and he vanished out of oculis eorum their sight. 24:32 et dixerunt ad invicem nonne cor 32. And they said one to another, Did nostrum ardens erat in nobis dum not our heart burn within us, while he loqueretur in via et aperiret nobis talked with us by the way, and while he scripturas opened to us the scriptures? 24:33 et surgentes eadem hora regressi 33. And they rose up the same hour, sunt in Hierusalem et invenerunt and returned to Jerusalem, and found congregatos undecim et eos qui cum the eleven gathered together, and them ipsis erant that were with them, 24:34 dicentes quod surrexit Dominus 34. Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, vere et apparuit Simoni and hath appeared to Simon. 24:35 et ipsi narrabant quae gesta 35. And they told what things were erant in via et quomodo cognoverunt eum done in the way, and how he was known in fractione panis of them in breaking of bread. 24:36 dum haec autem loquuntur Iesus 36. And as they thus spake, Jesus stetit in medio eorum et dicit eis pax himself stood in the midst of them, and vobis ego sum nolite timere saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 24:37 conturbati vero et conterriti 37. But they were terrified and existimabant se spiritum videre affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 24:38 et dixit eis quid turbati estis 38. And he said unto them, Why are ye et cogitationes ascendunt in corda troubled? and why do thoughts arise in vestra your hearts? 24:39 videte manus meas et pedes quia 39. Behold my hands and my feet, that ipse ego sum palpate et videte quia it is I myself: handle me, and see; for spiritus carnem et ossa non habet sicut a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as me videtis habere ye see me have. 24:40 et cum hoc dixisset ostendit eis 40. And when he had thus spoken, he manus et pedes shewed them his hands and his feet. 24:41 adhuc autem illis non 41. And while they yet believed not credentibus et mirantibus prae gaudio for joy, and wondered, he said unto dixit habetis hic aliquid quod them, Have ye here any meat? manducetur 24:42 at illi obtulerunt ei partem 42. And they gave him a piece of a piscis assi et favum mellis broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 24:43 et cum manducasset coram eis 43. And he took it, and did eat before sumens reliquias dedit eis them. 24:44 et dixit ad eos haec sunt verba 44. And he said unto them, These are quae locutus sum ad vos cum adhuc essem the words which I spake unto you, while vobiscum quoniam necesse est impleri I was yet with you, that all things omnia quae scripta sunt in lege Mosi et must be fulfilled, which were written prophetis et psalmis de me in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 24:45 tunc aperuit illis sensum ut 45. Then opened he their intellegerent scripturas understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 24:46 et dixit eis quoniam sic 46. And said unto them, Thus it is scriptum est et sic oportebat Christum written, and thus it behoved Christ to pati et resurgere a mortuis die tertia suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 24:47 et praedicari in nomine eius 47. And that repentance and remission paenitentiam et remissionem peccatorum of sins should be preached in his name in omnes gentes incipientibus ab among all nations, beginning at Hierosolyma Jerusalem. 24:48 vos autem estis testes horum 48. And ye are witnesses of these things. 24:49 et ego mitto promissum Patris 49. And, behold, I send the promise of mei in vos vos autem sedete in civitate my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the quoadusque induamini virtutem ex alto city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 24:50 eduxit autem eos foras in 50. And he led them out as far as to Bethaniam et elevatis manibus suis Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, benedixit eis and blessed them. 24:51 et factum est dum benediceret 51. And it came to pass, while he illis recessit ab eis et ferebatur in blessed them, he was parted from them, caelum and carried up into heaven. 24:52 et ipsi adorantes regressi sunt 52. And they worshipped him, and in Hierusalem cum gaudio magno returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 24:53 et erant semper in templo 53. And were continually in the laudantes et benedicentes Deum temple, praising and blessing God.
