22:1 adpropinquabat autem dies festus 1. Now the feast of unleavened bread
azymorum qui dicitur pascha drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

22:2 et quaerebant principes 2. And the chief priests and scribes
sacerdotum et scribae quomodo eum sought how they might kill him; for
interficerent timebant vero plebem they feared the people.

22:3 intravit autem Satanas in Iudam 3. Then entered Satan into Judas
qui cognominatur Scarioth unum de surnamed Iscariot, being of the number
duodecim of the twelve.

22:4 et abiit et locutus est cum 4. And he went his way, and communed
principibus sacerdotum et magistratibus with the chief priests and captains,
quemadmodum illum traderet eis how he might betray him unto them.

22:5 et gavisi sunt et pacti sunt 5. And they were glad, and covenanted
pecuniam illi dare to give him money.

22:6 et spopondit et quaerebat 6. And he promised, and sought
oportunitatem ut traderet illum sine opportunity to betray him unto them in
turbis the absence of the multitude.

22:7 venit autem dies azymorum in qua 7. Then came the day of unleavened
necesse erat occidi pascha bread, when the passover must be killed.

22:8 et misit Petrum et Iohannem 8. And he sent Peter and John, saying,
dicens euntes parate nobis pascha ut Go and prepare us the passover, that we
manducemus may eat.

22:9 at illi dixerunt ubi vis paremus 9. And they said unto him, Where wilt
                                             thou that we prepare?

22:10 et dixit ad eos ecce 10. And he said unto them, Behold,
introeuntibus vobis in civitatem when ye are entered into the city,
occurret vobis homo amphoram aquae there shall a man meet you, bearing a

22:11 et dicetis patri familias domus 11. And ye shall say unto the goodman
dicit tibi magister ubi est diversorium of the house, The Master saith unto
ubi pascha cum discipulis meis manducem thee, Where is the guestchamber, where
I shall eat the passover with my
                                             disciples?

22:12 et ipse vobis ostendet cenaculum 12. And he shall shew you a large
magnum stratum et ibi parate upper room furnished: there make ready.

22:13 euntes autem invenerunt sicut 13. And they went, and found as he had
dixit illis et paraverunt pascha said unto them: and they made ready the
                                             passover.

22:14 et cum facta esset hora 14. And when the hour was come, he sat
discubuit et duodecim apostoli cum eo down, and the twelve apostles with him.

22:15 et ait illis desiderio 15. And he said unto them, With desire
desideravi hoc pascha manducare I have desired to eat this passover
vobiscum antequam patiar with you before I suffer:

22:16 dico enim vobis quia ex hoc non 16. For I say unto you, I will not any
manducabo illud donec impleatur in more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled
regno Dei in the kingdom of God.

22:17 et accepto calice gratias egit 17. And he took the cup, and gave
et dixit accipite et dividite inter vos thanks, and said, Take this, and divide
                                             it among yourselves:

22:18 dico enim vobis quod non bibam 18. For I say unto you, I will not
de generatione vitis donec regnum Dei drink of the fruit of the vine, until
veniat the kingdom of God shall come.

22:19 et accepto pane gratias egit et 19. And he took bread, and gave
fregit et dedit eis dicens hoc est thanks, and brake it, and gave unto
corpus meum quod pro vobis datur hoc them, saying, This is my body which is
facite in meam commemorationem given for you: this do in remembrance
                                             of me.

22:20 similiter et calicem postquam 20. Likewise also the cup after
cenavit dicens hic est calix novum supper, saying, This cup is the new
testamentum in sanguine meo quod pro testament in my blood, which is shed
vobis funditur for you.

22:21 verumtamen ecce manus tradentis 21. But, behold, the hand of him that
me mecum est in mensa betrayeth me is with me on the table.

22:22 et quidem Filius hominis 22. And truly the Son of man goeth, as
secundum quod definitum est vadit it was determined: but woe unto that
verumtamen vae illi homini per quem man by whom he is betrayed!

22:23 et ipsi coeperunt quaerere inter 23. And they began to enquire among
se quis esset ex eis qui hoc facturus themselves, which of them it was that
esset should do this thing.

22:24 facta est autem et contentio 24. And there was also a strife among
inter eos quis eorum videretur esse them, which of them should be accounted
maior the greatest.

22:25 dixit autem eis reges gentium 25. And he said unto them, The kings
dominantur eorum et qui potestatem of the Gentiles exercise lordship over
habent super eos benefici vocantur them; and they that exercise authority
                                             upon them are called benefactors.

22:26 vos autem non sic sed qui maior 26. But ye shall not be so: but he
est in vobis fiat sicut iunior et qui that is greatest among you, let him be
praecessor est sicut ministrator as the younger; and he that is chief,
                                             as he that doth serve.

22:27 nam quis maior est qui recumbit 27. For whether is greater, he that
an qui ministrat nonne qui recumbit ego sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is
autem in medio vestrum sum sicut qui not he that sitteth at meat? but I am
ministrat among you as he that serveth.

22:28 vos autem estis qui permansistis 28. Ye are they which have continued
mecum in temptationibus meis with me in my temptations.

22:29 et ego dispono vobis sicut 29. And I appoint unto you a kingdom,
disposuit mihi Pater meus regnum             as my Father hath appointed unto me;

22:30 ut edatis et bibatis super 30. That ye may eat and drink at my
mensam meam in regno et sedeatis super table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones
thronos iudicantes duodecim tribus judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

22:31 ait autem Dominus Simon Simon 31. And the Lord said, Simon, Simon,
ecce Satanas expetivit vos ut cribraret behold, Satan hath desired to have you,
sicut triticum that he may sift you as wheat:

22:32 ego autem rogavi pro te ut non 32. But I have prayed for thee, that
deficiat fides tua et tu aliquando thy faith fail not: and when thou art
conversus confirma fratres tuos converted, strengthen thy brethren.

22:33 qui dixit ei Domine tecum 33. And he said unto him, Lord, I am
paratus sum et in carcerem et in mortem ready to go with thee, both into
ire prison, and to death.

22:34 et ille dixit dico tibi Petre 34. And he said, I tell thee, Peter,
non cantabit hodie gallus donec ter the cock shall not crow this day,
abneges nosse me before that thou shalt thrice deny that
                                             thou knowest me.

22:35 et dixit eis quando misi vos 35. And he said unto them, When I sent
sine sacculo et pera et calciamentis you without purse, and scrip, and
numquid aliquid defuit vobis at illi shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they
dixerunt nihil said, Nothing.

22:36 dixit ergo eis sed nunc qui 36. Then said he unto them, But now,
habet sacculum tollat similiter et he that hath a purse, let him take it,
peram et qui non habet vendat tunicam and likewise his scrip: and he that
suam et emat gladium hath no sword, let him sell his
                                             garment, and buy one.

22:37 dico enim vobis quoniam adhuc 37. For I say unto you, that this that
hoc quod scriptum est oportet impleri is written must yet be accomplished in
in me et quod cum iniustis deputatus me, And he was reckoned among the

habent concerning me have an end.

22:38 at illi dixerunt Domine ecce 38. And they said, Lord, behold, here
gladii duo hic at ille dixit eis satis are two swords. And he said unto them,
est It is enough.

22:39 et egressus ibat secundum 39. And he came out, and went, as he
consuetudinem in montem Olivarum secuti was wont, to the mount of Olives; and
sunt autem illum et discipuli his disciples also followed him.

22:40 et cum pervenisset ad locum 40. And when he was at the place, he
dixit illis orate ne intretis in said unto them, Pray that ye enter not
temptationem into temptation.

22:41 et ipse avulsus est ab eis 41. And he was withdrawn from them
quantum iactus est lapidis et positis about a stone's cast, and kneeled down,
genibus orabat and prayed,

22:42 dicens Pater si vis transfer 42. Saying, Father, if thou be
calicem istum a me verumtamen non mea willing, remove this cup from me:
voluntas sed tua fiat nevertheless not my will, but thine, be
                                             done.

22:43 apparuit autem illi angelus de 43. And there appeared an angel unto
caelo confortans eum et factus in him from heaven, strengthening him.
agonia prolixius orabat

22:44 et factus est sudor eius sicut 44. And being in an agony he prayed
guttae sanguinis decurrentis in terram more earnestly: and his sweat was as it
were great drops of blood falling down
                                             to the ground.

22:45 et cum surrexisset ab oratione 45. And when he rose up from prayer,
et venisset ad discipulos suos invenit and was come to his disciples, he found
eos dormientes prae tristitia them sleeping for sorrow,

22:46 et ait illis quid dormitis 46. And said unto them, Why sleep ye?
surgite orate ne intretis in rise and pray, lest ye enter into
temptationem temptation.

22:47 adhuc eo loquente ecce turba et 47. And while he yet spake, behold a

22:48 Iesus autem dixit ei Iuda osculo 48. But Jesus said unto him, Judas,

22:49 videntes autem hii qui circa 49. When they which were about him saw

ei Domine si percutimus in gladio Lord, shall we smite with the sword?

22:50 et percussit unus ex illis 50. And one of them smote the servant

22:51 respondens autem Iesus ait 51. And Jesus answered and said,
sinite usque huc et cum tetigisset Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his
auriculam eius sanavit eum ear, and healed him.

22:52 dixit autem Iesus ad eos qui 52. Then Jesus said unto the chief

22:64 et velaverunt eum et 64. And when they had blindfolded him,

22:69 ex hoc autem erit Filius hominis 69. Hereafter shall the Son of man sit
sedens a dextris virtutis Dei on the right hand of the power of God.

22:70 dixerunt autem omnes tu ergo es 70. Then said they all, Art thou then
Filius Dei qui ait vos dicitis quia ego the Son of God? And he said unto them,
sum Ye say that I am.

22:71 at illi dixerunt quid adhuc 71. And they said, What need we any
desideramus testimonium ipsi enim further witness? for we ourselves have
audivimus de ore eius heard of his own mouth.
