6:1 factum est autem in sabbato 1. And it came to pass on the second
secundoprimo cum transiret per sata sabbath after the first, that he went
vellebant discipuli eius spicas et through the corn fields; and his
manducabant confricantes manibus disciples plucked the ears of corn, and
did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
6:2 quidam autem Pharisaeorum dicebant 2. And certain of the Pharisees said
illis quid facitis quod non licet in unto them, Why do ye that which is not
sabbatis lawful to do on the sabbath days?
6:3 et respondens Iesus ad eos dixit 3. And Jesus answering them said, Have
nec hoc legistis quod fecit David cum ye not read so much as this, what David
esurisset ipse et qui cum eo erant did, when himself was an hungred, and
they which were with him;
6:4 quomodo intravit in domum Dei et 4. How he went into the house of God,
panes propositionis sumpsit et and did take and eat the shewbread, and
manducavit et dedit his qui cum ipso gave also to them that were with him;
erant quos non licet manducare nisi which it is not lawful to eat but for
tantum sacerdotibus the priests alone?
6:5 et dicebat illis quia dominus est 5. And he said unto them, That the Son
Filius hominis etiam sabbati of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
6:6 factum est autem et in alio 6. And it came to pass also on another
sabbato ut intraret in synagogam et sabbath, that he entered into the
doceret et erat ibi homo et manus eius synagogue and taught: and there was a
dextra erat arida man whose right hand was withered.
6:7 observabant autem scribae et 7. And the scribes and Pharisees
Pharisaei si in sabbato curaret ut watched him, whether he would heal on
invenirent accusare illum the sabbath day; that they might find
an accusation against him.
6:8 ipse vero sciebat cogitationes 8. But he knew their thoughts, and
eorum et ait homini qui habebat manum said to the man which had the withered
aridam surge et sta in medium et hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the
surgens stetit midst. And he arose and stood forth.
6:9 ait autem ad illos Iesus interrogo 9. Then said Jesus unto them, I will
vos si licet sabbato bene facere an ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the
male animam salvam facere an perdere sabbath days to do good, or to do evil?
to save life, or to destroy it?
6:10 et circumspectis omnibus dixit 10. And looking round about upon them
homini extende manum tuam et extendit all, he said unto the man, Stretch
et restituta est manus eius forth thy hand. And he did so: and his
hand was restored whole as the other.
6:11 ipsi autem repleti sunt 11. And they were filled with madness;
insipientia et conloquebantur ad and communed one with another what they
invicem quidnam facerent Iesu might do to Jesus.
6:12 factum est autem in illis diebus 12. And it came to pass in those days,
exiit in montem orare et erat that he went out into a mountain to
pernoctans in oratione Dei pray, and continued all night in prayer
to God.
6:13 et cum dies factus esset vocavit 13. And when it was day, he called
discipulos suos et elegit duodecim ex unto him his disciples: and of them he
ipsis quos et apostolos nominavit chose twelve, whom also he named
apostles;
6:14 Simonem quem cognominavit Petrum 14. Simon, (whom he also named Peter,)
et Andream fratrem eius Iacobum et and Andrew his brother, James and John,
Iohannem Philippum et Bartholomeum Philip and Bartholomew,
6:15 Mattheum et Thomam Iacobum Alphei 15. Matthew and Thomas, James the son
et Simonem qui vocatur Zelotes of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
6:16 Iudam Iacobi et Iudam Scarioth 16. And Judas the brother of James,
qui fuit proditor and Judas Iscariot, which also was the
traitor.
6:17 et descendens cum illis stetit in 17. And he came down with them, and
loco campestri et turba discipulorum stood in the plain, and the company of
eius et multitudo copiosa plebis ab his disciples, and a great multitude of
omni Iudaea et Hierusalem et maritimae people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem,
Tyri et Sidonis and from the sea coast of Tyre and
Sidon, which came to hear him, and to
be healed of their diseases;
6:18 qui venerunt ut audirent eum et 18. And they that were vexed with
sanarentur a languoribus suis et qui unclean spirits: and they were healed.
vexabantur ab spiritibus inmundis
curabantur
6:19 et omnis turba quaerebant eum 19. And the whole multitude sought to
tangere quia virtus de illo exiebat et touch him: for there went virtue out of
sanabat omnes him, and healed them all.
6:20 et ipse elevatis oculis in 20. And he lifted up his eyes on his
discipulos suos dicebat beati pauperes disciples, and said, Blessed be ye
quia vestrum est regnum Dei poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
6:21 beati qui nunc esuritis quia 21. Blessed are ye that hunger now:
saturabimini beati qui nunc fletis quia for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye
ridebitis that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
6:22 beati eritis cum vos oderint 22. Blessed are ye, when men shall
homines et cum separaverint vos et hate you, and when they shall separate
exprobraverint et eiecerint nomen you from their company, and shall
vestrum tamquam malum propter Filium reproach you, and cast out your name as
hominis evil, for the Son of man's sake.
6:23 gaudete in illa die et exultate 23. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap
ecce enim merces vestra multa in caelo for joy: for, behold, your reward is
secundum haec enim faciebant prophetis great in heaven: for in the like manner
patres eorum did their fathers unto the prophets.
6:24 verumtamen vae vobis divitibus 24. But woe unto you that are rich!
quia habetis consolationem vestram for ye have received your consolation.
6:25 vae vobis qui saturati estis quia 25. Woe unto you that are full! for ye
esurietis vae vobis qui ridetis nunc shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh
quia lugebitis et flebitis now! for ye shall mourn and weep.
6:26 vae cum bene vobis dixerint omnes 26. Woe unto you, when all men shall
homines secundum haec faciebant speak well of you! for so did their
prophetis patres eorum fathers to the false prophets.
6:27 sed vobis dico qui auditis 27. But I say unto you which hear,
diligite inimicos vestros benefacite Love your enemies, do good to them
his qui vos oderunt which hate you,
6:28 benedicite maledicentibus vobis 28. Bless them that curse you, and
orate pro calumniantibus vos pray for them which despitefully use
you.
6:29 ei qui te percutit in maxillam 29. And unto him that smiteth thee on
praebe et alteram et ab eo qui aufert the one cheek offer also the other; and
tibi vestimentum etiam tunicam noli him that taketh away thy cloak forbid
prohibere not to take thy coat also.
6:30 omni autem petenti te tribue et 30. Give to every man that asketh of
qui aufert quae tua sunt ne repetas thee; and of him that taketh away thy
goods ask them not again.
6:31 et prout vultis ut faciant vobis 31. And as ye would that men should do
homines et vos facite illis similiter to you, do ye also to them likewise.
6:32 et si diligitis eos qui vos 32. For if ye love them which love
diligunt quae vobis est gratia nam et you, what thank have ye? for sinners
peccatores diligentes se diligunt also love those that love them.
6:33 et si benefeceritis his qui vobis 33. And if ye do good to them which do
benefaciunt quae vobis est gratia good to you, what thank have ye? for
siquidem et peccatores hoc faciunt sinners also do even the same.
6:34 et si mutuum dederitis his a 34. And if ye lend to them of whom ye
quibus speratis recipere quae gratia hope to receive, what thank have ye?
est vobis nam et peccatores for sinners also lend to sinners, to
peccatoribus fenerantur ut recipiant receive as much again.

6:35 verumtamen diligite inimicos 35. But love ye your enemies, and do
vestros et benefacite et mutuum date good, and lend, hoping for nothing
nihil desperantes et erit merces vestra again; and your reward shall be great,
multa et eritis filii Altissimi quia and ye shall be the children of the
ipse benignus est super ingratos et Highest: for he is kind unto the
malos unthankful and to the evil.
6:36 estote ergo misericordes sicut et 36. Be ye therefore merciful, as your
Pater vester misericors est Father also is merciful.
6:37 nolite iudicare et non 37. Judge not, and ye shall not be
iudicabimini nolite condemnare et non judged: condemn not, and ye shall not
condemnabimini dimittite et dimittemini be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be
forgiven:
6:38 date et dabitur vobis mensuram 38. Give, and it shall be given unto
bonam confersam et coagitatam et you; good measure, pressed down, and
supereffluentem dabunt in sinum vestrum shaken together, and running over,
eadem quippe mensura qua mensi fueritis shall men give into your bosom. For
remetietur vobis with the same measure that ye mete
withal it shall be measured to you
again.
6:39 dicebat autem illis et 39. And he spake a parable unto them,
similitudinem numquid potest caecus Can the blind lead the blind? shall
caecum ducere nonne ambo in foveam they not both fall into the ditch?

6:40 non est discipulus super 40. The disciple is not above his
magistrum perfectus autem omnis erit master: but every one that is perfect
sicut magister eius shall be as his master.
6:41 quid autem vides festucam in 41. And why beholdest thou the mote
oculo fratris tui trabem autem quae in that is in thy brother's eye, but
oculo tuo est non consideras perceivest not the beam that is in
thine own eye?
6:42 et quomodo potes dicere fratri 42. Either how canst thou say to thy
tuo frater sine eiciam festucam de brother, Brother, let me pull out the
oculo tuo ipse in oculo tuo trabem non mote that is in thine eye, when thou
videns hypocrita eice primum trabem de thyself beholdest not the beam that is
oculo tuo et tunc perspicies ut educas in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast
festucam de oculo fratris tui out first the beam out of thine own
eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to
pull out the mote that is in thy
brother's eye.
6:43 non est enim arbor bona quae 43. For a good tree bringeth not forth
facit fructus malos neque arbor mala corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt
faciens fructum bonum tree bring forth good fruit.
6:44 unaquaeque enim arbor de fructu 44. For every tree is known by his own
suo cognoscitur neque enim de spinis fruit. For of thorns men do not gather
colligunt ficus neque de rubo figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they
vindemiant uvam grapes.
6:45 bonus homo de bono thesauro 45. A good man out of the good
cordis sui profert bonum et malus homo treasure of his heart bringeth forth
de malo profert malum ex abundantia that which is good; and an evil man out
enim cordis os loquitur of the evil treasure of his heart
bringeth forth that which is evil: for
of the abundance of the heart his mouth
speaketh.
6:46 quid autem vocatis me Domine 46. And why call ye me, Lord, Lord,
Domine et non facitis quae dico and do not the things which I say?
6:47 omnis qui venit ad me et audit 47. Whosoever cometh to me, and
sermones meos et facit eos ostendam heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I
vobis cui similis est will shew you to whom he is like:
6:48 similis est homini aedificanti 48. He is like a man which built an
domum qui fodit in altum et posuit house, and digged deep, and laid the
fundamenta supra petram inundatione foundation on a rock: and when the
autem facta inlisum est flumen domui flood arose, the stream beat vehemently
illi et non potuit eam movere fundata upon that house, and could not shake
enim erat supra petram it: for it was founded upon a rock.
6:49 qui autem audivit et non fecit 49. But he that heareth, and doeth
similis est homini aedificanti domum not, is like a man that without a
suam supra terram sine fundamento in foundation built an house upon the
quam inlisus est fluvius et continuo earth; against which the stream did
concidit et facta est ruina domus beat vehemently, and immediately it
illius magna fell; and the ruin of that house was
great.
