18:1 dicebat autem et parabolam ad 1. And he spake a parable unto them to
illos quoniam oportet semper orare et this end, that men ought always to
non deficere                                 pray, and not to faint;

18:2 dicens iudex quidam erat in 2. Saying, There was in a city a
quadam civitate qui Deum non timebat et judge, which feared not God, neither
hominem non verebatur regarded man:

18:3  vidua autem quaedam erat in            3.  And there was a widow in that city;
civitate illa et veniebat ad eum dicens and she came unto him, saying, Avenge
vindica me de adversario meo me of mine adversary.

18:4 et nolebat per multum tempus post 4. And he would not for a while: but
haec autem dixit intra se et si Deum afterward he said within himself,
non timeo nec hominem revereor               Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

18:5 tamen quia molesta est mihi haec 5. Yet because this widow troubleth
vidua vindicabo illam ne in novissimo me, I will avenge her, lest by her
veniens suggillet me continual coming she weary me.

18:6 ait autem Dominus audite quid 6. And the Lord said, Hear what the
iudex iniquitatis dicit unjust judge saith.

18:7 Deus autem non faciet vindictam 7. And shall not God avenge his own
electorum suorum clamantium ad se die elect, which cry day and night unto
ac nocte et patientiam habebit in illis him, though he bear long with them?

18:8 dico vobis quia cito faciet 8. I tell you that he will avenge them
vindictam illorum verumtamen Filius speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of
hominis veniens putas inveniet fidem in man cometh, shall he find faith on the
terra earth?

18:9 dixit autem et ad quosdam qui in 9. And he spake this parable unto
se confidebant tamquam iusti et certain which trusted in themselves
aspernabantur ceteros parabolam istam that they were righteous, and despised
                                             others:

18:10 duo homines ascenderunt in 10. Two men went up into the temple to
templum ut orarent unus Pharisaeus et pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other
alter publicanus a publican.

18:11 Pharisaeus stans haec apud se 11. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus
orabat Deus gratias ago tibi quia non with himself, God, I thank thee, that I
sum sicut ceteri hominum raptores am not as other men are, extortioners,
iniusti adulteri vel ut etiam hic unjust, adulterers, or even as this
publicanus publican.

18:12 ieiuno bis in sabbato decimas do 12. I fast twice in the week, I give
omnium quae possideo tithes of all that I possess.

18:13 et publicanus a longe stans 13. And the publican, standing afar
nolebat nec oculos ad caelum levare sed off, would not lift up so much as his
percutiebat pectus suum dicens Deus eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his
propitius esto mihi peccatori breast, saying, God be merciful to me a
                                             sinner.

18:14 dico vobis descendit hic 14. I tell you, this man went down to
iustificatus in domum suam ab illo quia his house justified rather than the
omnis qui se exaltat humiliabitur et other: for every one that exalteth
qui se humiliat exaltabitur himself shall be abased; and he that
                                             humbleth himself shall be exalted.

18:15 adferebant autem ad illum et 15. And they brought unto him also
infantes ut eos tangeret quod cum infants, that he would touch them: but
viderent discipuli increpabant illos when his disciples saw it, they rebuked
                                             them.

18:16 Iesus autem convocans illos 16. But Jesus called them unto him,
dixit sinite pueros venire ad me et and said, Suffer little children to
nolite eos vetare talium est enim come unto me, and forbid them not: for
regnum Dei of such is the kingdom of God.

18:17 amen dico vobis quicumque non 17. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever
acceperit regnum Dei sicut puer non shall not receive the kingdom of God as
intrabit in illud a little child shall in no wise enter
                                             therein.

18:18 et interrogavit eum quidam 18. And a certain ruler asked him,
princeps dicens magister bone quid saying, Good Master, what shall I do to
faciens vitam aeternam possidebo inherit eternal life?

18:19 dixit autem ei Iesus quid me 19. And Jesus said unto him, Why
dicis bonum nemo bonus nisi solus Deus callest thou me good? none is good,
                                             save one, that is, God.

18:20 mandata nosti non occides non 20. Thou knowest the commandments, Do
moechaberis non furtum facies non not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do
falsum testimonium dices honora patrem not steal, Do not bear false witness,
tuum et matrem Honour thy father and thy mother.

18:21 qui ait haec omnia custodivi a 21. And he said, All these have I kept
iuventute mea from my youth up.

18:22 quo audito Iesus ait ei adhuc 22. Now when Jesus heard these things,
unum tibi deest omnia quaecumque habes he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one
vende et da pauperibus et habebis thing: sell all that thou hast, and
thesaurum in caelo et veni sequere me distribute unto the poor, and thou
shalt have treasure in heaven: and
                                             come, follow me.

18:23 his ille auditis contristatus 23. And when he heard this, he was
est quia dives erat valde very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

18:24 videns autem illum Iesus tristem 24. And when Jesus saw that he was
factum dixit quam difficile qui very sorrowful, he said, How hardly
pecunias habent in regnum Dei intrabunt shall they that have riches enter into
                                             the kingdom of God!

18:25 facilius est enim camelum per 25. For it is easier for a camel to go
foramen acus transire quam divitem through a needle's eye, than for a rich
intrare in regnum Dei man to enter into the kingdom of God.

18:26 et dixerunt qui audiebant et 26. And they that heard it said, Who
quis potest salvus fieri then can be saved?

18:27 ait illis quae inpossibilia sunt 27. And he said, The things which are
apud homines possibilia sunt apud Deum impossible with men are possible with
                                             God.

18:28 ait autem Petrus ecce nos 28. Then Peter said, Lo, we have left
dimisimus omnia et secuti sumus te all, and followed thee.

18:29 qui dixit eis amen dico vobis 29. And he said unto them, Verily I
nemo est qui reliquit domum aut say unto you, There is no man that hath
parentes aut fratres aut uxorem aut left house, or parents, or brethren, or
filios propter regnum Dei wife, or children, for the kingdom of
                                             God's sake,

18:30 et non recipiat multo plura in 30. Who shall not receive manifold
hoc tempore et in saeculo venturo vitam more in this present time, and in the
aeternam world to come life everlasting.

18:31 adsumpsit autem Iesus duodecim 31. Then he took unto him the twelve,
et ait illis ecce ascendimus and said unto them, Behold, we go up to
Hierosolyma et consummabuntur omnia Jerusalem, and all things that are
quae scripta sunt per prophetas de written by the prophets concerning the
Filio hominis Son of man shall be accomplished.

18:32 tradetur enim gentibus et 32. For he shall be delivered unto the
inludetur et flagellabitur et conspuetur Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and
                                             spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

18:33 et postquam flagellaverint 33. And they shall scourge him, and
occident eum et die tertia resurget put him to death: and the third day he
                                             shall rise again.

18:34 et ipsi nihil horum 34. And they understood none of these
intellexerunt et erat verbum istud things: and this saying was hid from
absconditum ab eis et non intellegebant them, neither knew they the things
quae dicebantur which were spoken.

18:35 factum est autem cum 35. And it came to pass, that as he
adpropinquaret Hiericho caecus quidam was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain
sedebat secus viam mendicans blind man sat by the way side begging:

18:36 et cum audiret turbam 36. And hearing the multitude pass by,
praetereuntem interrogabat quid hoc he asked what it meant.
esset

18:37 dixerunt autem ei quod Iesus 37. And they told him, that Jesus of
Nazarenus transiret Nazareth passeth by.

18:38 et clamavit dicens Iesu Fili 38. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou
David miserere mei son of David, have mercy on me.

18:39 et qui praeibant increpabant eum 39. And they which went before rebuked
ut taceret ipse vero multo magis him, that he should hold his peace: but
clamabat Fili David miserere mei he cried so much the more, Thou son of
                                             David, have mercy on me.

18:40 stans autem Iesus iussit illum 40. And Jesus stood, and commanded him
adduci ad se et cum adpropinquasset to be brought unto him: and when he was
interrogavit illum come near, he asked him,

18:41 dicens quid tibi vis faciam at 41. Saying, What wilt thou that I
ille dixit Domine ut videam shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord,
that I may receive my sight.

18:42 et Iesus dixit illi respice 42. And Jesus said unto him, Receive
fides tua te salvum fecit thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

18:43 et confestim vidit et sequebatur 43. And immediately he received his
illum magnificans Deum et omnis plebs sight, and followed him, glorifying
ut vidit dedit laudem Deo God: and all the people, when they saw
                                             it, gave praise unto God.
