And he spake a parable unto them to illos quoniam oportet semper orare et this end, that men ought always to non deficere pray, and not to faint; 18:2 dicens iudex quidam erat in 2. Saying, There was in a city a quadam civitate qui Deum non timebat et judge, which feared not God, neither hominem non verebatur regarded man: 18:3 vidua autem quaedam erat in 3. And there was a widow in that city; civitate illa et veniebat ad eum dicens and she came unto him, saying, Avenge vindica me de adversario meo me of mine adversary. 18:4 et nolebat per multum tempus post 4. And he would not for a while: but haec autem dixit intra se et si Deum afterward he said within himself, non timeo nec hominem revereor Though I fear not God, nor regard man; 18:5 tamen quia molesta est mihi haec 5. Yet because this widow troubleth vidua vindicabo illam ne in novissimo me, I will avenge her, lest by her veniens suggillet me continual coming she weary me. 18:6 ait autem Dominus audite quid 6. And the Lord said, Hear what the iudex iniquitatis dicit unjust judge saith. 18:7 Deus autem non faciet vindictam 7. And shall not God avenge his own electorum suorum clamantium ad se die elect, which cry day and night unto ac nocte et patientiam habebit in illis him, though he bear long with them? 18:8 dico vobis quia cito faciet 8. I tell you that he will avenge them vindictam illorum verumtamen Filius speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of hominis veniens putas inveniet fidem in man cometh, shall he find faith on the terra earth? 18:9 dixit autem et ad quosdam qui in 9. And he spake this parable unto se confidebant tamquam iusti et certain which trusted in themselves aspernabantur ceteros parabolam istam that they were righteous, and despised others: 18:10 duo homines ascenderunt in 10. Two men went up into the temple to templum ut orarent unus Pharisaeus et pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other alter publicanus a publican. 18:11 Pharisaeus stans haec apud se 11. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus orabat Deus gratias ago tibi quia non with himself, God, I thank thee, that I sum sicut ceteri hominum raptores am not as other men are, extortioners, iniusti adulteri vel ut etiam hic unjust, adulterers, or even as this publicanus publican. 18:12 ieiuno bis in sabbato decimas do 12. I fast twice in the week, I give omnium quae possideo tithes of all that I possess. 18:13 et publicanus a longe stans 13. And the publican, standing afar nolebat nec oculos ad caelum levare sed off, would not lift up so much as his percutiebat pectus suum dicens Deus eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his propitius esto mihi peccatori breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 18:14 dico vobis descendit hic 14. I tell you, this man went down to iustificatus in domum suam ab illo quia his house justified rather than the omnis qui se exaltat humiliabitur et other: for every one that exalteth qui se humiliat exaltabitur himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 18:15 adferebant autem ad illum et 15. And they brought unto him also infantes ut eos tangeret quod cum infants, that he would touch them: but viderent discipuli increpabant illos when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 18:16 Iesus autem convocans illos 16. But Jesus called them unto him, dixit sinite pueros venire ad me et and said, Suffer little children to nolite eos vetare talium est enim come unto me, and forbid them not: for regnum Dei of such is the kingdom of God. 18:17 amen dico vobis quicumque non 17. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever acceperit regnum Dei sicut puer non shall not receive the kingdom of God as intrabit in illud a little child shall in no wise enter therein. 18:18 et interrogavit eum quidam 18. And a certain ruler asked him, princeps dicens magister bone quid saying, Good Master, what shall I do to faciens vitam aeternam possidebo inherit eternal life? 18:19 dixit autem ei Iesus quid me 19. And Jesus said unto him, Why dicis bonum nemo bonus nisi solus Deus callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. 18:20 mandata nosti non occides non 20. Thou knowest the commandments, Do moechaberis non furtum facies non not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do falsum testimonium dices honora patrem not steal, Do not bear false witness, tuum et matrem Honour thy father and thy mother. 18:21 qui ait haec omnia custodivi a 21. And he said, All these have I kept iuventute mea from my youth up. 18:22 quo audito Iesus ait ei adhuc 22. Now when Jesus heard these things, unum tibi deest omnia quaecumque habes he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one vende et da pauperibus et habebis thing: sell all that thou hast, and thesaurum in caelo et veni sequere me distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. 18:23 his ille auditis contristatus 23. And when he heard this, he was est quia dives erat valde very sorrowful: for he was very rich. 18:24 videns autem illum Iesus tristem 24. And when Jesus saw that he was factum dixit quam difficile qui very sorrowful, he said, How hardly pecunias habent in regnum Dei intrabunt shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 18:25 facilius est enim camelum per 25. For it is easier for a camel to go foramen acus transire quam divitem through a needle's eye, than for a rich intrare in regnum Dei man to enter into the kingdom of God. 18:26 et dixerunt qui audiebant et 26. And they that heard it said, Who quis potest salvus fieri then can be saved? 18:27 ait illis quae inpossibilia sunt 27. And he said, The things which are apud homines possibilia sunt apud Deum impossible with men are possible with God. 18:28 ait autem Petrus ecce nos 28. Then Peter said, Lo, we have left dimisimus omnia et secuti sumus te all, and followed thee. 18:29 qui dixit eis amen dico vobis 29. And he said unto them, Verily I nemo est qui reliquit domum aut say unto you, There is no man that hath parentes aut fratres aut uxorem aut left house, or parents, or brethren, or filios propter regnum Dei wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, 18:30 et non recipiat multo plura in 30. Who shall not receive manifold hoc tempore et in saeculo venturo vitam more in this present time, and in the aeternam world to come life everlasting. 18:31 adsumpsit autem Iesus duodecim 31. Then he took unto him the twelve, et ait illis ecce ascendimus and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Hierosolyma et consummabuntur omnia Jerusalem, and all things that are quae scripta sunt per prophetas de written by the prophets concerning the Filio hominis Son of man shall be accomplished. 18:32 tradetur enim gentibus et 32. For he shall be delivered unto the inludetur et flagellabitur et conspuetur Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: 18:33 et postquam flagellaverint 33. And they shall scourge him, and occident eum et die tertia resurget put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. 18:34 et ipsi nihil horum 34. And they understood none of these intellexerunt et erat verbum istud things: and this saying was hid from absconditum ab eis et non intellegebant them, neither knew they the things quae dicebantur which were spoken. 18:35 factum est autem cum 35. And it came to pass, that as he adpropinquaret Hiericho caecus quidam was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain sedebat secus viam mendicans blind man sat by the way side begging: 18:36 et cum audiret turbam 36. And hearing the multitude pass by, praetereuntem interrogabat quid hoc he asked what it meant. esset 18:37 dixerunt autem ei quod Iesus 37. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazarenus transiret Nazareth passeth by. 18:38 et clamavit dicens Iesu Fili 38. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou David miserere mei son of David, have mercy on me. 18:39 et qui praeibant increpabant eum 39. And they which went before rebuked ut taceret ipse vero multo magis him, that he should hold his peace: but clamabat Fili David miserere mei he cried so much the more, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. 18:40 stans autem Iesus iussit illum 40. And Jesus stood, and commanded him adduci ad se et cum adpropinquasset to be brought unto him: and when he was interrogavit illum come near, he asked him, 18:41 dicens quid tibi vis faciam at 41. Saying, What wilt thou that I ille dixit Domine ut videam shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 18:42 et Iesus dixit illi respice 42. And Jesus said unto him, Receive fides tua te salvum fecit thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. 18:43 et confestim vidit et sequebatur 43.
