And it came to pass, that, as he quodam orans ut cessavit dixit unus ex was praying in a certain place, when he discipulis eius ad eum Domine doce nos ceased, one of his disciples said unto orare sicut et Iohannes docuit him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John discipulos suos also taught his disciples. 11:2 et ait illis cum oratis dicite 2. And he said unto them, When ye Pater sanctificetur nomen tuum adveniat pray, say, Our Father which art in regnum tuum heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 11:3 panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis 3. Give us day by day our daily bread. cotidie 11:4 et dimitte nobis peccata nostra 4. And forgive us our sins; for we siquidem et ipsi dimittimus omni also forgive every one that is indebted debenti nobis et ne nos inducas in to us. And lead us not into temptation; temptationem but deliver us from evil. 11:5 et ait ad illos quis vestrum 5. And he said unto them, Which of you habebit amicum et ibit ad illum media shall have a friend, and shall go unto nocte et dicit illi amice commoda mihi him at midnight, and say unto him, tres panes Friend, lend me three loaves; 11:6 quoniam amicus meus venit de via 6. For a friend of mine in his journey ad me et non habeo quod ponam ante illum is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 11:7 et ille de intus respondens dicat 7. And he from within shall answer and noli mihi molestus esse iam ostium say, Trouble me not: the door is now clausum est et pueri mei mecum sunt in shut, and my children are with me in cubili non possum surgere et dare tibi bed; I cannot rise and give thee. 11:8 dico vobis et si non dabit illi 8. For every one that asketh qui quaerit invenit et pulsanti receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; aperietur and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11:11 quis autem ex vobis patrem petet 11. If a son shall ask bread of any of panem numquid lapidem dabit illi aut you that is a father, will he give him piscem numquid pro pisce serpentem a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he dabit illi for a fish give him a serpent? 11:12 aut si petierit ovum numquid 12. Or if he shall ask an egg, will he porriget illi scorpionem offer him a scorpion? 11:13 si ergo vos cum sitis mali 13. If ye then, being evil, know how nostis bona data dare filiis vestris to give good gifts unto your children: quanto magis Pater vester de caelo how much more shall your heavenly dabit spiritum bonum petentibus se Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? 11:14 et erat eiciens daemonium et 14. And he was casting out a devil, illud erat mutum et cum eiecisset and it was dumb. And it came to pass, daemonium locutus est mutus et when the devil was gone out, the dumb admiratae sunt turbae spake; and the people wondered. 11:15 quidam autem ex eis dixerunt in 15. But some of them said, He casteth Beelzebub principe daemoniorum eicit out devils through Beelzebub the chief daemonia of the devils. 11:16 et alii temptantes signum de 16. And others, tempting him, sought caelo quaerebant ab eo of him a sign from heaven. 11:17 ipse autem ut vidit cogitationes 17. But he, knowing their thoughts, eorum dixit eis omne regnum in se ipsum said unto them, Every kingdom divided divisum desolatur et domus supra domum against itself is brought to cadet desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 11:18 si autem et Satanas in se ipsum 18. If Satan also be divided against divisus est quomodo stabit regnum himself, how shall his kingdom stand? ipsius quia dicitis in Beelzebub eicere because ye say that I cast out devils me daemonia through Beelzebub. 11:19 si autem ego in Beelzebub eicio 19. And if I by Beelzebub cast out daemonia filii vestri in quo eiciunt devils, by whom do your sons cast them ideo ipsi iudices vestri erunt out? therefore shall they be your judges. 11:20 porro si in digito Dei eicio 20. But if I with the finger of God daemonia profecto praevenit in vos cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom regnum Dei of God is come upon you. 11:21 cum fortis armatus custodit 21. When a strong man armed keepeth atrium suum in pace sunt ea quae his palace, his goods are in peace: possidet 11:22 si autem fortior illo 22. But when a stronger than he shall superveniens vicerit eum universa arma come upon him, and overcome him, he eius aufert in quibus confidebat et taketh from him all his armour wherein spolia eius distribuit he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 11:23 qui non est mecum adversum me 23. He that is not with me is against est et qui non colligit mecum dispergit me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. 11:24 cum inmundus spiritus exierit de 24. When the unclean spirit is gone homine perambulat per loca inaquosa out of a man, he walketh through dry quaerens requiem et non inveniens dicit places, seeking rest; and finding none, revertar in domum meam unde exivi he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. 11:25 et cum venerit invenit scopis 25. And when the people were gathered coepit dicere generatio haec generatio thick together, he began to say, This nequam est signum quaerit et signum non is an evil generation: they seek a dabitur illi nisi signum Ionae sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. 11:30 nam sicut Ionas fuit signum 30. For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevitis ita erit et Filius hominis Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man generationi isti be to this generation. 11:31 regina austri surget in iudicio 31. The queen of the south shall rise cum viris generationis huius et up in the judgment with the men of this condemnabit illos quia venit a finibus generation, and condemn them: for she terrae audire sapientiam Salomonis et came from the utmost parts of the earth ecce plus Salomone hic to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. 11:32 viri ninevitae surgent in 32. The men of Nineve shall rise up in iudicio cum generatione hac et the judgment with this generation, and condemnabunt illam quia paenitentiam shall condemn it: for they repented at egerunt ad praedicationem Ionae et ecce the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a plus Iona hic greater than Jonas is here. 11:33 nemo lucernam accendit et in 33. Take heed therefore that the light est tenebrae sint which is in thee be not darkness. 11:36 si ergo corpus tuum totum 36. If thy whole body therefore be lucidum fuerit non habens aliquam full of light, having no part dark, the partem tenebrarum erit lucidum totum et whole shall be full of light, as when sicut lucerna fulgoris inluminabit te the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light. 11:37 et cum loqueretur rogavit illum 37. And as he spake, a certain quidam Pharisaeus ut pranderet apud se Pharisee besought him to dine with him: et ingressus recubuit and he went in, and sat down to meat. 11:38 Pharisaeus autem coepit intra se 38. And when the Pharisee saw it, he reputans dicere quare non baptizatus marvelled that he had not first washed esset ante prandium before dinner. 11:39 et ait Dominus ad illum nunc vos 39. And the Lord said unto him, Now do Pharisaei quod de foris est calicis et ye Pharisees make clean the outside of catini mundatis quod autem intus est the cup and the platter; but your vestrum plenum est rapina et iniquitate inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. 11:40 stulti nonne qui fecit quod de 40. But woe unto you, Pharisees! for decimatis mentam et rutam et omne holus ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of et praeteritis iudicium et caritatem herbs, and pass over judgment and the Dei haec autem oportuit facere et illa love of God: these ought ye to have non omittere done, and not to leave the other undone. 11:43 vae vobis Pharisaeis quia 43. Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye diligitis primas cathedras in synagogis love the uppermost seats in the et salutationes in foro synagogues, and greetings in the markets. 11:44 vae vobis quia estis ut 44. Woe unto you, scribes and monumenta quae non parent et homines Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as ambulantes supra nesciunt graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. 11:45 respondens autem quidam ex legis 45. Then answered one of the lawyers, peritis ait illi magister haec dicens and said unto him, Master, thus saying etiam nobis contumeliam facis thou reproachest us also. 11:46 at ille ait et vobis legis 46. And he said, Woe unto you also, ye peritis vae quia oneratis homines lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens oneribus quae portari non possunt et grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves ipsi uno digito vestro non tangitis touch not the burdens with one of your sarcinas fingers. 11:47 vae vobis quia aedificatis 47. Woe unto you! for ye build the monumenta prophetarum patres autem sepulchres of the prophets, and your vestri occiderunt illos fathers killed them. 11:48 profecto testificamini quod 48. Truly ye bear witness that ye consentitis operibus patrum vestrorum allow the deeds of your fathers: for quoniam quidem ipsi eos occiderunt vos they indeed killed them, and ye build autem aedificatis eorum sepulchra their sepulchres. 11:49 propterea et sapientia Dei dixit 49. Therefore also said the wisdom of mittam ad illos prophetas et apostolos God, I will send them prophets and et ex illis occident et persequentur apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: 11:50 ut inquiratur sanguis omnium 50. That the blood of all the prophetarum qui effusus est a prophets, which was shed from the constitutione mundi a generatione ista foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; 11:51 a sanguine Abel usque ad 51. From the blood of Abel unto the sanguinem Zacchariae qui periit inter blood of Zacharias which perished altare et aedem ita dico vobis between the altar and the temple: requiretur ab hac generatione verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. 11:52 vae vobis legis peritis quia 52. Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have tulistis clavem scientiae ipsi non taken away the key of knowledge: ye introistis et eos qui introibant entered not in yourselves, and them prohibuistis that were entering in ye hindered. 11:53 cum haec ad illos diceret 53. And as he said these things unto coeperunt Pharisaei et legis periti them, the scribes and the Pharisees graviter insistere et os eius opprimere began to urge him vehemently, and to de multis provoke him to speak of many things: 11:54 insidiantes et quaerentes capere 54.
