And it came to pass, as he went domum cuiusdam principis Pharisaeorum into the house of one of the chief sabbato manducare panem et ipsi Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath observabant eum day, that they watched him. 14:2 et ecce homo quidam hydropicus 2. For whosoever exalteth himself humiliabitur et qui se humiliat shall be abased; and he that humbleth exaltabitur himself shall be exalted. 14:12 dicebat autem et ei qui se 12. Then said he also to him that bade invitaverat cum facis prandium aut him, When thou makest a dinner or a cenam noli vocare amicos tuos neque supper, call not thy friends, nor thy fratres tuos neque cognatos neque brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy vicinos divites ne forte et ipsi te rich neighbours; lest they also bid reinvitent et fiat tibi retributio thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 14:13 sed cum facis convivium voca 13. But when thou makest a feast, call pauperes debiles claudos caecos the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14:14 et beatus eris quia non habent 14. And thou shalt be blessed; for retribuere tibi retribuetur enim tibi they cannot recompense thee: for thou in resurrectione iustorum shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. 14:15 haec cum audisset quidam de 15. And when one of them that sat at simul discumbentibus dixit illi beatus meat with him heard these things, he qui manducabit panem in regno Dei said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 14:16 at ipse dixit ei homo quidam 16. Then said he unto him, A certain fecit cenam magnam et vocavit multos man made a great supper, and bade many: 14:17 et misit servum suum hora cenae 17. And sent his servant at supper dicere invitatis ut venirent quia iam time to say to them that were bidden, parata sunt omnia Come; for all things are now ready. 14:18 et coeperunt simul omnes 18. And they all with one consent excusare primus dixit ei villam emi et began to make excuse. The first said necesse habeo exire et videre illam unto him, I have bought a piece of rogo te habe me excusatum ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 14:19 et alter dixit iuga boum emi 19. And another said, I have bought quinque et eo probare illa rogo te habe five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove me excusatum them: I pray thee have me excused. 14:20 et alius dixit uxorem duxi et 20. And another said, I have married a ideo non possum venire wife, and therefore I cannot come. 14:21 et reversus servus nuntiavit 21. So that servant came, and shewed haec domino suo tunc iratus pater his lord these things. And the lord said unto the et sepes et conpelle intrare ut servant, Go out into the highways and impleatur domus mea hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 14:24 dico autem vobis quod nemo 24. For I say unto you, That none of virorum illorum qui vocati sunt those men which were bidden shall taste gustabit cenam meam of my supper. 14:25 ibant autem turbae multae cum eo 25. And there went great multitudes et conversus dixit ad illos with him: and he turned, and said unto them, 14:26 si quis venit ad me et non odit 26. If any man come to me, and hate patrem suum et matrem et uxorem et not his father, and mother, and wife, filios et fratres et sorores adhuc and children, and brethren, and autem et animam suam non potest esse sisters, yea, and his own life also, he meus discipulus cannot be my disciple. 14:27 et qui non baiulat crucem suam 27. And whosoever doth not bear his et venit post me non potest esse meus cross, and come after me, cannot be my discipulus disciple. 14:28 quis enim ex vobis volens turrem 28. For which of you, intending to aedificare non prius sedens conputat build a tower, sitteth not down first, sumptus qui necessarii sunt si habet ad and counteth the cost, whether he have perficiendum sufficient to finish it? 14:29 ne posteaquam posuerit 29. Lest haply, after he hath laid the fundamentum et non potuerit perficere foundation, and is not able to finish omnes qui vident incipiant inludere ei it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 14:30 dicentes quia hic homo coepit 30. Saying, This man began to build, aedificare et non potuit consummare and was not able to finish. 14:31 aut qui rex iturus committere 31. Or what king, going to make war bellum adversus alium regem non sedens against another king, sitteth not down prius cogitat si possit cum decem first, and consulteth whether he be milibus occurrere ei qui cum viginti able with ten thousand to meet him that milibus venit ad se cometh against him with twenty thousand? 14:32 alioquin adhuc illo longe agente 32. Or else, while the other is yet a legationem mittens rogat ea quae pacis great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, sunt and desireth conditions of peace. 14:33 sic ergo omnis ex vobis qui non 33. So likewise, whosoever he be of renuntiat omnibus quae possidet non you that forsaketh not all that he potest meus esse discipulus hath, he cannot be my disciple. 14:34 bonum est sal si autem sal 34. Salt is good: but if the salt have quoque evanuerit in quo condietur lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? 14:35 neque in terram neque in 35. It is neither fit for the land, sterquilinium utile est sed foras nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast mittetur qui habet aures audiendi audiat it out.
