13:1 aderant autem quidam ipso in 1. There were present at that season
tempore nuntiantes illi de Galilaeis some that told him of the Galilaeans,
quorum sanguinem Pilatus miscuit cum whose blood Pilate had mingled with
sacrificiis eorum their sacrifices.
13:2 et respondens dixit illis putatis 2. And Jesus answering said unto them,
quod hii Galilaei prae omnibus Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were
Galilaeis peccatores fuerunt quia talia sinners above all the Galilaeans,
passi sunt because they suffered such things?
13:3 non dico vobis sed nisi 3. I tell you, Nay: but, except ye
paenitentiam habueritis omnes similiter repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
peribitis
13:4 sicut illi decem et octo supra 4. Or those eighteen, upon whom the
quos cecidit turris in Siloam et tower in Siloam fell, and slew them,
occidit eos putatis quia et ipsi think ye that they were sinners above
debitores fuerunt praeter omnes homines all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?
habitantes in Hierusalem
13:5 non dico vobis sed si non 5. I tell you, Nay: but, except ye
paenitentiam egeritis omnes similiter repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
peribitis
13:6 dicebat autem hanc similitudinem 6. He spake also this parable; A
arborem fici habebat quidam plantatam certain man had a fig tree planted in
in vinea sua et venit quaerens fructum his vineyard; and he came and sought
in illa et non invenit fruit thereon, and found none.
13:7 dixit autem ad cultorem vineae 7. Then said he unto the dresser of
ecce anni tres sunt ex quo venio his vineyard, Behold, these three years
quaerens fructum in ficulnea hac et non I come seeking fruit on this fig tree,
invenio succide ergo illam ut quid and find none: cut it down; why
etiam terram occupat cumbereth it the ground?
13:8 at ille respondens dixit illi 8. And he answering said unto him,
domine dimitte illam et hoc anno usque Lord, let it alone this year also, till
dum fodiam circa illam et mittam I shall dig about it, and dung it:
stercora
13:9 et si quidem fecerit fructum sin 9. And if it bear fruit, well: and if
autem in futurum succides eam not, then after that thou shalt cut it
down.
13:10 erat autem docens in synagoga 10. And he was teaching in one of the
eorum sabbatis synagogues on the sabbath.
13:11 et ecce mulier quae habebat 11. And, behold, there was a woman
spiritum infirmitatis annis decem et which had a spirit of infirmity
octo et erat inclinata nec omnino eighteen years, and was bowed together,
poterat sursum respicere and could in no wise lift up herself.
13:12 quam cum videret Iesus vocavit 12. And when Jesus saw her, he called
ad se et ait illi mulier dimissa es ab her to him, and said unto her, Woman,
infirmitate tua thou art loosed from thine infirmity.
13:13 et inposuit illi manus et 13. And he laid his hands on her: and
confestim erecta est et glorificabat immediately she was made straight, and
Deum glorified God.
13:14 respondens autem archisynagogus 14. And the ruler of the synagogue
indignans quia sabbato curasset Iesus answered with indignation, because that
dicebat turbae sex dies sunt in quibus Jesus had healed on the sabbath day,
oportet operari in his ergo venite et and said unto the people, There are six
curamini et non in die sabbati days in which men ought to work: in
them therefore come and be healed, and
not on the sabbath day.
13:15 respondit autem ad illum Dominus 15. The Lord then answered him, and
et dixit hypocritae unusquisque vestrum said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one
sabbato non solvit bovem suum aut of you on the sabbath loose his ox or
asinum a praesepio et ducit adaquare his ass from the stall, and lead him
away to watering?
13:16 hanc autem filiam Abrahae quam 16. And ought not this woman, being a
alligavit Satanas ecce decem et octo daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath
annis non oportuit solvi a vinculo isto bound, lo, these eighteen years, be
die sabbati loosed from this bond on the sabbath
day?
13:17 et cum haec diceret erubescebant 17. And when he had said these things,
omnes adversarii eius et omnis populus all his adversaries were ashamed: and
gaudebat in universis quae gloriose all the people rejoiced for all the
fiebant ab eo glorious things that were done by him.
13:18 dicebat ergo cui simile est 18. Then said he, Unto what is the
regnum Dei et cui simile esse kingdom of God like? and whereunto
existimabo illud shall I resemble it?
13:19 simile est grano sinapis quod 19. It is like a grain of mustard
acceptum homo misit in hortum suum et seed, which a man took, and cast into
crevit et factum est in arborem magnam his garden; and it grew, and waxed a
et volucres caeli requieverunt in ramis great tree; and the fowls of the air
eius lodged in the branches of it.
13:20 et iterum dixit cui simile 20. And again he said, Whereunto shall
aestimabo regnum Dei I liken the kingdom of God?
13:21 simile est fermento quod 21. It is like leaven, which a woman
acceptum mulier abscondit in farinae took and hid in three measures of meal,
sata tria donec fermentaretur totum till the whole was leavened.
13:22 et ibat per civitates et 22. And he went through the cities and
castella docens et iter faciens in villages, teaching, and journeying
Hierusalem toward Jerusalem.
13:23 ait autem illi quidam Domine si 23. Then said one unto him, Lord, are
pauci sunt qui salvantur ipse autem there few that be saved? And he said
dixit ad illos unto them,
13:24 contendite intrare per angustam 24. Strive to enter in at the strait
portam quia multi dico vobis quaerunt gate: for many, I say unto you, will
intrare et non poterunt seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
13:25 cum autem intraverit pater 25. When once the master of the house
familias et cluserit ostium et is risen up, and hath shut to the door,
incipietis foris stare et pulsare and ye begin to stand without, and to
ostium dicentes Domine aperi nobis et knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord,
respondens dicet vobis nescio vos unde open unto us; and he shall answer and
sitis say unto you, I know you not whence ye
are:
13:26 tunc incipietis dicere 26. Then shall ye begin to say, We
manducavimus coram te et bibimus et in have eaten and drunk in thy presence,
plateis nostris docuisti and thou hast taught in our streets.
13:27 et dicet vobis nescio vos unde 27. But he shall say, I tell you, I
sitis discedite a me omnes operarii know you not whence ye are; depart from
iniquitatis me, all ye workers of iniquity.
13:28 ibi erit fletus et stridor 28. There shall be weeping and
dentium cum videritis Abraham et Isaac gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see
et Iacob et omnes prophetas in regno Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all
Dei vos autem expelli foras the prophets, in the kingdom of God,
and you yourselves thrust out.
13:29 et venient ab oriente et 29. And they shall come from the east,
occidente et aquilone et austro et and from the west, and from the north,
accumbent in regno Dei and from the south, and shall sit down
in the kingdom of God.
13:30 et ecce sunt novissimi qui erunt 30. And, behold, there are last which
primi et sunt primi qui erunt novissimi shall be first, and there are first
which shall be last.
13:31 in ipsa die accesserunt quidam 31. The same day there came certain of
Pharisaeorum dicentes illi exi et vade the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get
hinc quia Herodes vult te occidere thee out, and depart hence: for Herod
will kill thee.
13:32 et ait illis ite dicite vulpi 32. And he said unto them, Go ye, and
illi ecce eicio daemonia et sanitates tell that fox, Behold, I cast out
perficio hodie et cras et tertia devils, and I do cures to day and to
consummor morrow, and the third day I shall be
perfected.
13:33 verumtamen oportet me hodie et 33. Nevertheless I must walk to day,
cras et sequenti ambulare quia non and to morrow, and the day following:
capit prophetam perire extra Hierusalem for it cannot be that a prophet perish
out of Jerusalem.
13:34 Hierusalem Hierusalem quae 34. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which
occidis prophetas et lapidas eos qui killest the prophets, and stonest them
mittuntur ad te quotiens volui that are sent unto thee; how often
congregare filios tuos quemadmodum avis would I have gathered thy children
nidum suum sub pinnis et noluisti together, as a hen doth gather her
brood under her wings, and ye would not!
13:35 ecce relinquitur vobis domus 35. Behold, your house is left unto
vestra dico autem vobis quia non you desolate: and verily I say unto
videbitis me donec veniat cum dicetis you, Ye shall not see me, until the
benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini time come when ye shall say, Blessed is
he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
