9:1 convocatis autem duodecim 1. Then he called his twelve disciples
apostolis dedit illis virtutem et together, and gave them power and
potestatem super omnia daemonia et ut authority over all devils, and to cure
languores curarent diseases.

9:2 et misit illos praedicare regnum 2. And he sent them to preach the
Dei et sanare infirmos kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

9:3 et ait ad illos nihil tuleritis in 3. And he said unto them, Take nothing
via neque virgam neque peram neque for your journey, neither staves, nor
panem neque pecuniam neque duas tunicas      scrip, neither bread, neither money;
habeatis neither have two coats apiece.

9:4 et in quamcumque domum 4. And whatsoever house ye enter into,
intraveritis ibi manete et inde ne there abide, and thence depart.
exeatis

9:5 et quicumque non receperint vos 5. And whosoever will not receive you,
exeuntes de civitate illa etiam when ye go out of that city, shake off
pulverem pedum vestrorum excutite in the very dust from your feet for a
testimonium supra illos testimony against them.

9:6 egressi autem circumibant per 6. And they departed, and went through
castella evangelizantes et curantes the towns, preaching the gospel, and
ubique healing every where.

9:7 audivit autem Herodes tetrarcha 7. Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all
omnia quae fiebant ab eo et haesitabat that was done by him: and he was
eo quod diceretur perplexed, because that it was said of
                                             some, that John was risen from the dead;

9:8 a quibusdam quia Iohannes surrexit 8. And of some, that Elias had
a mortuis a quibusdam vero quia Helias appeared; and of others, that one of

decollavi quis autem est iste de quo beheaded: but who is this, of whom I
audio ego talia et quaerebat videre eum hear such things? And he desired to see
                                             him.

9:10 et reversi apostoli narraverunt 10. And the apostles, when they were
illi quaecumque fecerunt et adsumptis returned, told him all that they had
illis secessit seorsum in locum done. And he took them, and went aside

                                             to the city called Bethsaida.

9:11 quod cum cognovissent turbae 11. And the people, when they knew it,
secutae sunt illum et excepit illos et followed him: and he received them, and
loquebatur illis de regno Dei et eos spake unto them of the kingdom of God,
qui cura indigebant sanabat and healed them that had need of

9:12 dies autem coeperat declinare et 12. And when the day began to wear
accedentes duodecim dixerunt illi away, then came the twelve, and said
dimitte turbas ut euntes in castella unto him, Send the multitude away, that

9:13 ait autem ad illos vos date illis 13. But he said unto them, Give ye

nobis plus quam quinque panes et duo         more but five loaves and two fishes;

9:21 at ille increpans illos praecepit 21. And he straitly charged them, and

9:24 qui enim voluerit animam suam 24. For whosoever will save his life

9:26 nam qui me erubuerit et meos 26. For whosoever shall be ashamed of
sermones hunc Filius hominis erubescet me and of my words, of him shall the

Father's, and of the holy angels.

9:27 dico autem vobis vere sunt aliqui 27. But I tell you of a truth, there
hic stantes qui non gustabunt mortem be some standing here, which shall not
donec videant regnum Dei taste of death, till they see the
                                             kingdom of God.

9:28 factum est autem post haec verba 28. And it came to pass about an eight
fere dies octo et adsumpsit Petrum et days after these sayings, he took Peter
Iohannem et Iacobum et ascendit in and John and James, and went up into a
montem ut oraret mountain to pray.

9:29 et factum est dum oraret species 29. And as he prayed, the fashion of
vultus eius altera et vestitus eius his countenance was altered, and his
albus refulgens raiment was white and glistering.

9:30 et ecce duo viri loquebantur cum 30. And, behold, there talked with him
illo erant autem Moses et Helias two men, which were Moses and Elias:

9:31 visi in maiestate et dicebant 31. Who appeared in glory, and spake
excessum eius quem conpleturus erat in of his decease which he should

9:32 Petrus vero et qui cum illo 32. But Peter and they that were with
gravati erant somno et evigilantes him were heavy with sleep: and when
viderunt maiestatem eius et duos viros they were awake, they saw his glory,
qui stabant cum illo and the two men that stood with him.

9:33 et factum est cum discederent ab 33. And it came to pass, as they
illo ait Petrus ad Iesum praeceptor departed from him, Peter said unto
bonum est nos hic esse et faciamus tria Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be

                                             what he said.

9:34 haec autem illo loquente facta 34. While he thus spake, there came a

timuerunt intrantibus illis in nubem feared as they entered into the cloud.

9:35 et vox facta est de nube dicens 35. And there came a voice out of the

                                             hear him.

9:36 et dum fieret vox inventus est 36. And when the voice was past, Jesus
Iesus solus et ipsi tacuerunt et nemini was found alone. And they kept it
dixerunt in illis diebus quicquam ex close, and told no man in those days
his quae viderant any of those things which they had seen.

9:37 factum est autem in sequenti die 37. And it came to pass, that on the
descendentibus illis de monte occurrit next day, when they were come down from
illi turba multa the hill, much people met him.

9:38 et ecce vir de turba exclamavit 38. And, behold, a man of the company
dicens magister obsecro te respice in cried out, saying, Master, I beseech
filium meum quia unicus est mihi thee, look upon my son: for he is mine
                                             only child.

9:39 et ecce spiritus adprehendit 39. And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and
illum et subito clamat et elidit et he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth
dissipat eum cum spuma et vix discedit him that he foameth again, and bruising
dilanians eum him hardly departeth from him.

9:40 et rogavi discipulos tuos ut 40. And I besought thy disciples to
eicerent illum et non potuerunt cast him out; and they could not.

9:41 respondens autem Iesus dixit o 41. And Jesus answering said, O
generatio infidelis et perversa faithless and perverse generation, how
usquequo ero apud vos et patiar vos long shall I be with you, and suffer
adduc huc filium tuum you? Bring thy son hither.

9:42 et cum accederet elisit illum 42. And as he was yet a coming, the
daemonium et dissipavit devil threw him down, and tare him. And
Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and
healed the child, and delivered him
                                             again to his father.

9:43 et increpavit Iesus spiritum 43. And they were all amazed at the
inmundum et sanavit puerum et reddidit mighty power of God. But while they
illum patri eius wondered every one at all things which
Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

9:44 stupebant autem omnes in 44. Let these sayings sink down into
magnitudine Dei omnibusque mirantibus your ears: for the Son of man shall be
in omnibus quae faciebat dixit ad delivered into the hands of men.
discipulos suos ponite vos in cordibus
vestris sermones istos Filius enim
hominis futurum est ut tradatur in
manus hominum

9:45 at illi ignorabant verbum istud 45. But they understood not this
et erat velatum ante eos ut non saying, and it was hid from them, that
sentirent illud et timebant interrogare they perceived it not: and they feared
eum de hoc verbo to ask him of that saying.

9:46 intravit autem cogitatio in eos 46. Then there arose a reasoning among
quis eorum maior esset them, which of them should be greatest.

9:47 at Iesus videns cogitationes 47. And Jesus, perceiving the thought
cordis illorum adprehendens puerum of their heart, took a child, and set
statuit eum secus se him by him,

9:48 et ait illis quicumque susceperit 48. And said unto them, Whosoever
puerum istum in nomine meo me recipit shall receive this child in my name
et quicumque me recipit recipit eum qui receiveth me: and whosoever shall
me misit nam qui minor est inter omnes receive me receiveth him that sent me:
vos hic maior est for he that is least among you all, the
                                             same shall be great.

9:49 respondens autem Iohannes dixit 49. And John answered and said,
praeceptor vidimus quendam in nomine Master, we saw one casting out devils
tuo eicientem daemonia et prohibuimus in thy name; and we forbad him, because
eum quia non sequitur nobiscum he followeth not with us.

9:50 et ait ad illum Iesus nolite 50. And Jesus said unto him, Forbid
prohibere qui enim non est adversum vos him not: for he that is not against us
pro vobis est is for us.

9:51 factum est autem dum conplerentur 51. And it came to pass, when the time
dies adsumptionis eius et ipse faciem was come that he should be received up,
suam firmavit ut iret Hierusalem he stedfastly set his face to go to
                                             Jerusalem,

9:52 et misit nuntios ante conspectum 52. And sent messengers before his
suum et euntes intraverunt in civitatem face: and they went, and entered into a
Samaritanorum ut pararent illi village of the Samaritans, to make
                                             ready for him.

9:53 et non receperunt eum quia facies 53. And they did not receive him,
eius erat euntis Hierusalem because his face was as though he would
                                             go to Jerusalem.

9:54 cum vidissent autem discipuli 54. And when his disciples James and
eius Iacobus et Iohannes dixerunt John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt
Domine vis dicimus ut ignis descendat thou that we command fire to come down
de caelo et consumat illos from heaven, and consume them, even as
                                             Elias did?

9:55 et conversus increpavit illos 55. But he turned, and rebuked them,
and said, Ye know not what manner of
                                             spirit ye are of.

9:56 et abierunt in aliud castellum 56. For the Son of man is not come to
destroy men's lives, but to save them.
And they went to another village.

9:57 factum est autem ambulantibus 57. And it came to pass, that, as they
illis in via dixit quidam ad illum went in the way, a certain man said
sequar te quocumque ieris unto him, Lord, I will follow thee
                                             whithersoever thou goest.

9:58 et ait illi Iesus vulpes foveas 58. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes
habent et volucres caeli nidos Filius have holes, and birds of the air have
autem hominis non habet ubi caput nests; but the Son of man hath not
reclinet where to lay his head.

9:59 ait autem ad alterum sequere me 59. And he said unto another, Follow
ille autem dixit Domine permitte mihi me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first
primum ire sepelire patrem meum to go and bury my father.
